Chapter 74: School Rules
No. 6 Ning Xi, tightly bound, was finally safely delivered to City S that afternoon.
Coincidentally, a battle was just concluding at that moment.
“Miss Moti Si, what a coincidence! Long time no see. Are you here to pick someone up too?”
Shen Meling, holding the completely unconscious Edema, had regained her calm demeanor, making it impossible for anyone to associate her with the previous scene.
Looking at the black-haired boy before her, Shen Meling hesitated for a moment and finally clumsily spoke up:
“Sort of, are you?”
Zhen Yi nodded, his gaze fixed on the distant sky as if he could see what he was waiting for through the layers of clouds.
“I’m leaving.”
Shen Meling had planned to leave quietly, but since Zhen Yi greeted her first, ignoring him would be very rude.
It didn’t seem appropriate to just carry little Edema away in front of him.
Now rehashing the situation from earlier was futile; he had already retained the memory.
What a hassle…
Though her mind was tangled for a brief moment, Shen Meling quietly moved her feet to walk away.
She didn’t want to deal with this boring guy.
Zhen Yi, who had already noticed Edema, didn’t take any extra actions, as he knew very well that with his strength, he couldn’t possibly capture the royal Edema alone.
Though she was currently just a golden-haired loli with her magic power sealed.
Zhen Yi could deal with Edema, but winning would surely be very difficult.
And Moti Si, who could calmly capture Edema, would definitely have no trouble defeating him.
It was clear that during their last joint hunting expedition against the Monster King, she hadn’t possessed such terrifying prowess. Had she been continuously growing stronger while I languished for a year?
What a terrifying woman.
Once Shen Meling’s aura completely disappeared from sight, the plane carrying No. 6 Ning Xi quickly landed.
Members of the Combat Department pushed that poor black bundle out with a cart. To prevent her from escaping or tempting the transport personnel, they tightly wrapped every inch of Ning Xi’s skin with a material that blocked magic power.
Now Ning Xi could barely breathe, but upon realizing she was being moved, she desperately struggled, causing a racket on the cart.
She didn’t want to go to that damned place.
Those white-cloaked lunatics forced her to watch the Combat Department’s promotional videos 24 hours a day and incessantly drilled the idea “I am loyal to the Combat Department” into her head. Though this abuse didn’t harm her physically, it still caused her immense suffering.
Because sometimes she truly felt that an unfamiliar self, a dog of the Combat Department, had grown within her.
“Alright, take her to the research institute. I will ensure her escort.”
Zhen Yi warily spread his magic perception around, scanning for suspicious presences like a radar in circles.
City S lacked the silver-haired witch that made everyone wary, unlike the peace of City B.
Those self-proclaimed extraordinary individuals were indeed quite bothersome.
————————————
Without the aid of a handheld game console, Sumu once again entered the Layer Two dreamscape in her sleep.
When she condensed her magic power more concentratedly near her head before sleeping, she could maintain consciousness in her dreams.
Opening her eyes, she found herself on the familiar sofa at home. Although its faded purple fabric looked dusty, sitting up felt unexpectedly comfortable.
Only that most of the time her completely unreliable mother was asleep there.
In her dream, Sumu could see everything around her clearly.
But she didn’t need to interact; the moment she saw an object, its memories would automatically surface in her mind.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t left behind any pleasant memories here.
After a brief rest, Sumu got up and pushed open the heavy security door. As she stepped over the threshold, she vaguely sensed a weary gaze from the sofa directed at her back.
Just a familiar illusion; she knew every time she turned around, that woman remained quietly lying there, hopelessly drunk.
Thinking of this, Sumu involuntarily clenched her fist.
Why was she always drinking? Father just wasn’t coming back; it’s not like he’s dead…
Sumu couldn’t help but recall Luo Linglan’s father, who had turned to alcohol after his spouse’s death, and his eventual fate.
The more she thought about it, the more irritated she became.
Enough already.
Pushing open the door, the glaring sunlight forced Sumu to squint, shielding her forehead with her hand.
“Hardworking, studious, realistic, genuine”
The melodious class bell rang, causing Sumu to instinctively quicken her pace to rush inside.
However, as she reached the security booth at the entrance, she unconsciously tensed up again.
It was here that she was stopped back then.
It had been a long time since she left this place, but the student version of Sumu still resided in her heart, subtly influencing her actions.
But now she could walk in freely—
At the moment Sumu stepped past the entrance, an inexplicable sense of panic enveloped her heart. When she regained her senses, she had returned to outside the gate.
“Students must comply with school rules and be exemplary middle school students!”
The school rule sign hanging next to the school motto suddenly caught her attention.
Sumu read it carefully; she vaguely remembered several of the rules and was compelled to marvel at how her deep consciousness had retained all of them.
However, she remembered just a few, especially the parts about hairstyles.
Hairstyles cannot be unconventional, male students’ hair cannot be longer than shoulder length, female students must tie their hair up…
Wait, I think I understand.
Looking at the dense school rules, a sense of foreboding arose in Sumu’s heart.
“Anyone violating the school rules shall not be allowed entry!”
She couldn’t get in.
But she was already at the entrance, and there was no reason for Sumu to back down. Reluctantly, she awkwardly tried to tie her hair up.
Though Tang Nai had taught her hand in hand a few times, when the hair tie and her hair intertwined, her fingers still fumbled for a long time before finding the right position.
By the time she finally untangled the messy hair, the second class bell rang urgently.
The previous one had been the preparation bell.
That bell that had not had much presence in her memory suddenly sounded like a continuous drumbeat, urging everyone lingering outside the classroom, causing Sumu to feel inexplicably anxious.
She was going to be late.
In a rush, she stepped toward the inside, but once again was sent back by the invisible force.
Her figure returned to before the school rule, and this time her vision was completely filled with the iron plate covered in text as if intentionally reminding her to pay attention to these rules.
“Please wear the school uniform to enter.”
So that’s it, but where am I supposed to get a school uniform? The handheld game console should be able to modify one, right?
As Sumu’s gaze gradually shifted downwards, a line of striking red text suddenly appeared in the center of her view.
“Students who are 5 minutes late will be marked for violation.”
About two minutes had already passed since the bell rang, and the noisy chatter in the classroom had been replaced by the teacher’s authoritative voice.
If she didn’t hurry, she would be in violation.
And Sumu still clearly remembered the details of violations, word for word, even the slightly faded period at the end.
“Serious violators will have their parents called to school for education.”
