Chapter 98: Something’s Not Right with Tang Nai
“Seriously, it’s not scary… pfft.”
“You’re still laughing!”
Ye Wanjing cradled her feet in her hands, gently blowing on them, with the ghost mask tossed aside on her thigh, looking quite comical.
Sumu glanced at Ye Wanjing’s bright red toes with a smile.
“Don’t you wear shoes in the house?”
“Sometimes I just don’t feel like it.”
In fact, Ye Wanjing’s slippers were right by the bed, indicating that Sumu’s arrival had caught her off guard.
Just to scare her with the ghost head, she ended up embarrassing herself at her grandmother’s house.
“This is your bedroom, right? So where’s mine?”
Ye Wanjing lifted her head and blinked blankly.
“This is your bedroom.”
“This is mine? It’s so small… Wait, how come you’re so naturally in my bedroom? Put my feet back down!”
Seeing Sumu getting agitated, Ye Wanjing giggled.
“I was joking, of course, this is my bedroom. But Wooden Mouse, you’re so heartless; you’re sitting on my bed, and I didn’t even make you move.”
Isn’t it different? I’m not some foot fetishist, don’t think just because your feet look good I won’t mind!
Sumu’s corner of his mouth twitched for a moment, but he obediently stood up and patted down the wrinkled bear-patterned mattress.
Tch, true enough, only she would use such a childish mattress.
So Sumu turned and walked towards the master bedroom, pushed the door open, and looked at his Kurumi-themed mattress with satisfaction.
Hmm, now this is a choice of taste.
Sumu comfortably lay on the bed, basking in the warm sunlight; the master bedroom was not only spacious but also had excellent lighting—Ye Wanjing did find a great place.
This was a two-bedroom apartment on a high floor. The overall decor was not exquisite, but the geographical location was good, and it was less likely to be disturbed.
Of course, while there were no loud noises, there was still one noisy fish.
That clumsy idiot outside, who trips over his own feet when walking.
“This TV in the living room is so small.”
Sumu frowned as he looked at the old device in the living room that struggled to turn on, suddenly missing the comfortable sofa area.
That place was indeed very cozy.
“Why not ask Tang Nai to bring that TV over, what if she agrees?”
Irina’s mischief filled Sumu’s mind.
Come on, that guy will probably find ways to mess with me instead.
“Just give it a shot. If all else fails, she’ll just tease you. Besides, don’t you want to know what she does when you’re gone?”
…Well, I still have things I haven’t taken, so it wouldn’t hurt to make a trip.
In the coffee shop less than a kilometer away, Tang Nai was alone in the sofa area, reclining in Sumu’s favorite spot, facing the TV.
Or rather, before Sumu arrived, this had always been her territory.
The TV was playing a magical girl animation from the 70s or 80s, where the girls formed by lines were laughing together in a monotonous background, sharing puddings in a bright room.
Tang Nai scooped a bite of pudding made by Sister Lin with a spoon and put it in her mouth.
Is there really caramel? Or can’t taste it.
Though she thought this, the pudding was clearly covered in a thick layer of deep brown.
The sweet smell filled the air, blending with the aroma of coffee, making it quite intoxicating, and at first glance, it truly had that light atmosphere from the animation.
Unfortunately, this was the basement, and only Tang Nai was enjoying the pudding.
Indeed, this doesn’t seem like a place a magical girl would like, with no sunlight and an annoying person like me around.
Should I try talking to that stubborn old man upstairs? Move the sofa upstairs too, at least it would be sunnier.
There was a rustling sound coming from the stairs, as if a mouse was stealthily climbing over the wooden boards.
However, if she burrowed into the carpet, there would be no sound at all.
Tang Nai picked up the remote and turned up the TV volume, drowning out that subtle noise.
She vaguely heard a mouse sigh in relief.
The magical girls on the screen were still immersed in their relaxing daily lives, unaware that a quirky witch was eyeing them.
Just like that, the witch hid in the shadows behind them, creeping closer, and then—
“Wow!”
A shrill ghostly scream exploded behind Tang Nai, at the same time, a pink-furred giant mouse zoomed past overhead with a ghost face.
Her body coordination was clearly not great; as she landed, her foot twisted, almost causing her to stumble into Tang Nai and greet her earlier than expected.
Tang Nai’s pupils constricted slightly but quickly returned to normal, looking at Sumu, who had just landed in front of the screen.
“What a big pink mouse.”
“Robbery, hand over the TV!”
Tang Nai said nothing but pressed the remote, and in the next moment, Sumu was startled and jumped from the sudden loud noise behind him.
Just in time, the witch in the animation was hit by the finishing move powered by the bonds of friendship from the magical girls, and the intense impact sound was particularly piercing.
Although she still insisted, “I will be back,” the witch was pushed far away by the shockwave, never to rise again.
“What are you doing? You scared me.”
Seeing that he didn’t scare Tang Nai, but rather frightened himself, Sumu could only grumpily take off the headpiece and fix his messy hair.
“Nothing, you mean, you want the TV?”
Tang Nai slid to the left and cleared Sumu’s usual spot, making him a bit suspicious.
How does she know I want to sit here?
After pondering for a moment, he sat down, and the warmth left behind by the girl instantly enveloped his sensitive bottom, making his cheeks flush.
This guy, she wouldn’t be aiming for this idea… Wait, what does she want?
“Of course not.”
If it weren’t for Irina urging her in her mind, she wouldn’t even care about this TV…
Sumu looked at the 4K oversized screen showcasing the old animation, swallowed hard.
Saying he wasn’t interested was certainly a lie; taking this thing would at least start from ten thousand, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been driven to act in such a way.
But this guy is using it to display an animation that might not even have 720p quality?
That’s a bit of a waste.
“Sumu, you’re being disingenuous; your eyes have been glued to the TV the whole time.”
“Hmph, say whatever you want. I only came to get the sunflower.”
Sumu lightly snorted and walked to the bedroom, bringing out the small sunflower.
“The sunflower is mine too; shouldn’t you ask me before taking it?”
Tang Nai snapped her fingers, and the sunflower in Sumu’s hands turned to dust, next appearing on the coffee table in front of her.
“I still need to water it.”
Actually, it was because Sumu had become accustomed to using the sunflower as a nightlight.
It was a bit embarrassing to say, but since childhood, she had always felt afraid sleeping alone at night.
The house was too quiet and too dark, and shadows could leap out with imaginary monsters.
On nights without flights, only with a small nightlight could she sleep peacefully.
The basement was darker than her previous house, but the warm glow from the sunflower made her feel particularly at ease.
And just now, lying on the new bed, she realized something was missing.
Right, at least she had to take the sunflower with her.
“I get it, there are conditions, right?”
“Correct.”
Tang Nai nodded with a smile.
“Except for every night of the weekend, you have to stay here.”
