Chapter 58: Familiarity At First Sight
“Working overtime tonight and won’t be back? Huh?” Seeing the message from her older brother, Luo Shuangxing let out a puzzled sound.
Big brother, do you still remember you have a date with Xia Mo? If you do this, you might get replaced!
Quickly typing a string of characters in the chat box, Luo Shuangxing puffed her cheeks and walked back into the café.
The trouble didn’t just stem from her brother suddenly being called back to work; she, Luo Shuangxing, also left without having her coffee, and her excuse was just to go to the bathroom.
Now, it had been a full hour since she left!
Was she supposed to tell Xia Mo that she had been in the bathroom for a whole hour?
Who would believe such an explanation!
As soon as she entered the café, Luo Shuangxing saw Xia Mo and Xiaomimi deeply gazing into each other’s eyes. The atmosphere between the two was extremely awkward; getting any closer would make one want to dig their toes into the ground.
Luo Shuangxing looked at Xia Mo and then at Xiaomimi.
What in the world happened while I was gone? Her mind was filled with question marks.
“Xia Mo, I’m back…” Raising her hand, she cautiously greeted Xia Mo with a voice that was barely audible, asking, “Um, what happened?”
Before Xia Mo could answer, Xiaomimi shook her head fiercely like a startled cat, “Nothing, nothing! The consumption of both guests today is completely free here!”
While saying this, she looked at Xia Mo with a pleading gaze.
Sister, please, you can keep that secret to yourself, don’t let it leak!
As a fellow Magical Girl, Xia Mo definitely understood what Xiaomimi meant. She had planned to have an open and honest conversation with Xiaomimi and tell her about her true identity.
But before she had a chance to say anything, Luo Shuangxing came running over, throwing Xia Mo’s plans out the window.
Xia Mo was truly impressed by the timing of Luo Shuangxing’s return; neither earlier nor later would have had such a good effect. How did she manage to come back at such an in-between time?
“Eh? Xia Mo, you haven’t had coffee yet?” Luo Shuangxing was a bit surprised. Could it be that Xia Mo had been waiting here for an hour?
Xia Mo’s expression also turned awkward. Could she say that she hadn’t been here long either?
You two left not even a minute, and I left as well, okay? I only came back a minute or two earlier than you did.
“Well… I haven’t had any…” Xia Mo’s gaze drifted, “Drinking alone isn’t as fun. I wanted to wait for you to come back to drink together.”
Sorry, Shuangxing. For your safety, I have to lie to you! Xia Mo silently apologized in her heart.
“My brother said he has to work overtime and can’t accompany us. Sorry, Xia Mo…” Xia Mo felt uneasy inside, as did Luo Shuangxing.
First, she was missing for an hour, and then her brother had to leave unexpectedly. How did this perfectly good weekend turn into this?
“It’s okay. Guests, you should quickly take a seat and have a cup of coffee before discussing anything else.”
And the one feeling the most uneasy was undoubtedly Xiaomimi.
She had been seen by Xia Mo transforming and had her tail firmly grasped by her!
Now, she could only hope that Xia Mo was a good person, someone kind at heart.
“I’ll offer you a cup of coffee, and you forget about this, okay? I beg you!”
Forcing Xia Mo and Luo Shuangxing back to their original seats, Xiaomimi acted like a new employee wanting to impress her boss, extremely attentive as she served them.
First, she brought them the most expensive coffee in the shop and the tastiest snacks, even bringing over the shop’s cutest and friendliest cat to attend to the two esteemed guests.
Among the two, it was obvious that Xia Mo received far better treatment than Luo Shuangxing. Xiaomimi was exceedingly attentive to Xia Mo, just like a eunuch serving a monarch.
“Xia Mo, what exactly happened between you two?” Luo Shuangxing asked, holding a cat in her arms and another cat lounging on her lap, her eyes filled with confusion.
An hour ago, this shopkeeper was also very friendly, but she wasn’t this obsequious.
Now, it felt as if Xia Mo had obtained some leverage over the shopkeeper.
What on earth was going on?
“It’s nothing! I just have a natural affinity with Miss Xia!” Xiaomimi said earnestly.
Xia Mo had a complicated expression. She suddenly felt like the Dark Butterfly from a few days ago.
The Dark Butterfly held her leverage, and she held onto Xiaomimi’s, with the only difference being that Xia Mo wouldn’t harm Xiaomimi. If it weren’t for Luo Shuangxing being right next to her, she would have already clarified things with Xiaomimi.
“Really?” Luo Shuangxing looked at Xia Mo. Was this what natural affinity looked like?
“Yes, really.” What else could Xia Mo say? Should she outright accuse Xiaomimi of lying?
She could only go along with Xiaomimi’s words.
“I have a natural affinity with Xiaomimi. We’ve already become good friends.” With an awkward expression, Xia Mo echoed in agreement under Xiaomimi’s grateful gaze.
