Chapter 18: The Two-Tailed Comet
In the night sky, the two-tailed comet slowly streaked across the heavens, its deceptive tail splitting into two streams that spanned the entire night sky.
In the forest, the beastmen opened their eyes and howled at the two-tailed comet, their cries echoing throughout the dark woods.
In the human settlement protected by stone walls, chaos was spreading. The followers of Sigma rushed out of their homes, kneeling on the ground, looking up at the two-tailed comet in the night sky, raising their scissors-shaped hands in front of their eyes, babbling incoherently in praise of Sigma.
The last time the two-tailed comet appeared was precisely when Sigma was born.
Adolf’s mages were in disarray, the magical winds beginning to swirl chaotically, and the army was awakened from its slumber.
In the center of the vast ocean, on the Ousuan Ring Island, where the high elves resided, lay the most prosperous and wealthy city.
The Ousuan guards hurriedly entered the mage tower, where over a dozen mages surrounded an exquisite armillary sphere. Crafted from precious metals and enhanced by the intricate handiwork and magic of the high elves, this armillary sphere could demonstrate celestial phenomena in real time under the mages’ maintenance.
The Ousuan guards could see a two-tailed comet flying towards them on the globe, symbolizing the world. While it was not close, the guards could already feel the disturbance caused by the comet.
The magical winds intensified, and the light emitted from the armillary sphere flickered chaotically as the mages struggled to maintain its stability.
A blue-robed archmage approached, staff in hand, and said, “Sir, according to our calculations, the two-tailed comet may strike the Great Vortex.”
His tone was very calm.
The Ousuan guards couldn’t help but suspect he was joking, frowning as he asked, “Then the Asur will face extinction?”
“We can alter the trajectory of the two-tailed comet,” the archmage replied, “but the Great Vortex will undoubtedly be disturbed.”
“I will lead the army to deal with the demons and the demonic races.”
As the two-tailed comet passed over the Kingdom of Bartok, its trajectory dipped low, tracing a low arc over the vast ocean, growing closer, appearing as if it were about to crash into the Great Vortex within Ousuan.
Yet a powerful arcane force interfered with the comet’s trajectory, causing it to skim just above the hundreds of meters high Great Vortex before soaring into the distance.
The disturbance in the Great Vortex, crafted by the most powerful high elf archmage in history, now unleashed a violent magical storm in all directions.
Originally, the Great Vortex existed to continuously absorb the world’s magical power, reducing the levels of magic; otherwise, the demonic races would surface and destroy the mortal realm.
As the cornerstone of the Great Vortex, the guiding stones shattered due to the excessive magical power.
The unstable Great Vortex continuously released magical energy, overwhelming the world like a tsunami. The crystal ball used to measure the magical winds shattered and exploded.
Gaps began to appear in the air.
Demonized war hounds, blood mages, and demons possessing three pairs of breasts leapt out from the gaps, searching for living beings. Many unfortunate high elves, safe in their dreams, suddenly faced warrior demons that burst into their homes, shouting:
“Blood sacrifice to the Blood God.”
Heads rolled.
In the dead of night, the entire Ousuan region was engulfed in chaos.
After their slaughter, they gathered together, heading for the Great Vortex to completely destroy it, allowing the continuous demonic army to ravage the entire world without restraint.
The Ousuan guards defended the Great Vortex while high elves fought valiantly against the demonic races for their homeland and the world.
In the latter part of the night.
The magical power of the entire mortal realm had risen several levels.
Once, this world was filled with magical energy, and those who survived from that era fell into slumber with the construction of the Great Vortex.
Now, it was time for them to awaken.
On another continent, in the southern rainforests.
The spirit lizard priests rushed up the steps of the pyramid; they were small, nimble lizardfolk wearing brightly colored feathered crowns.
The flames in the city illuminated their smooth blue backs.
At the moment when the world’s magical energy reached its peak, the Four Dark Gods unleashed their power, opening a massive rift outside this lizardfolk city, through which two entire demonic armies poured out, besieging the city. Led by immense demons, the outnumbered lizardfolk warriors fell, and the city gates were breached.
The spirit lizard priests finally reached the top of the pyramid, entered inside, and used magic to open the hibernation chamber, where a three-meter-high Slan mummy lay, resembling a large crouching toad.
Yellowed strips of cloth wrapped around its desiccated body, adorned with a golden crown and golden bracelets on its arms.
The spirit lizard priests grabbed banana leaves and waved them forcefully to create a cold wind. The leading spirit lizard priest flicked his tongue and said, “The ancient saint’s enemy has reappeared, for the great plan, Master Krell, awaken quickly!”
The Slan mummy named Master Krell remained motionless, only the strips of cloth fluttered in the wind.
The sound of flapping wings echoed in the sky.
The temple guards of the lizardfolk lined up in formation. These muscular lizardfolk, standing two and a half meters tall and resembling upright crocodiles, donned heavy armor, one hand gripping a shield and the other a jagged obsidian spear, standing ready.
More than a dozen blood god demons swooped down, flapping their tattered bat wings, swinging blazing whips that severed three temple guards, shield and all, in half. Another swing of the infernal sword shattered armor and sliced through flesh, carving out a wide path.
The temple guards surged forward, using their bodies to obstruct the carnage wrought by the blood god demons.
Blood splattered dozens of meters away onto the spirit lizard priest fanning the banana leaves. He glanced back, nearly paralyzed with fear; of the three hundred temple guards, only a handful of remaining survivors were still valiantly trying to hold back the demons’ advance, but they wouldn’t last much longer.
In a panic, the spirit lizard priest waved the banana leaves with all his might, shouting, “For the great plan! For the great plan!”
“Die!”
A tall blood god demon swung its massive sword, leaping ten meters to strike at the Slan mummy.
The spirit lizard priest shut his eyes in terror, crying out, “Ancient saint above! The great plan!”
The eyes of the mummy Krell glowed brightly, and the raging sword paused before the mummy’s face, as the towering blood god demon seemed frozen in time, suspended in mid-air.
Master Krell’s green soul emerged from his dry corpse, and with a wave of his hand, a small ball of light formed in the air, simply bursting into brilliance.
The spirit lizard priest fell to the ground, and as his eyes adjusted, he found that the more than a dozen blood god demons had vanished without a trace, while his side remained unscathed.
The spirit lizard priest raised his hands high in joy, exclaiming, “Master Krell has awakened!”
The corpse of Master Krell floated up, flying out of the hibernation chamber to the top of the pyramid.
Beneath the night sky, the lizardfolk city was ablaze, with massive lizard beasts lying dead in the streets, and the lizardfolk army was retreating, overwhelmed, while the demonic army feasted upon blood.
This scene was very familiar to Master Krell. He had fought against the demonic armies in ancient times, long before the Great Vortex was constructed, when the lizardfolk army battled fiercely to prevent the demons from advancing northward.
To kill Master Krell, the Blood God had personally blessed three hundred demons, and after endless demonic lives were sacrificed, one demon finally reached Master Krell, stabbing him to death.
But Master Krell refused to die, and so he did not.
Master Krell’s green soul detached from his corpse, raising his right hand, a miniature sun appeared in the night sky, gradually growing larger, followed by a blinding flash that engulfed the entire night sky.
Outside the city, a mushroom cloud slowly ascended.
Outside, the two demonic armies were instantly turned to ashes, leaving only a few demons inside the city, whose lives were numbered.
Meanwhile.
In the Wretched Lands.
A green-skinned orc banged a bone to wake his companion: “Look! It’s a two-tailed comet.”
“Can it Waaaaagh?”
“No.”
His companion turned over and went back to sleep.
The green-skinned orc found it uninteresting, lying back down to continue sleeping.
