Chapter 4: Dark Forehead
Hearing Liu Haoyu’s words, Old Wang was speechless for a while.
However, he didn’t think much of it and stepped on the accelerator after Liu Haoyu settled into the car.
Liu Haoyu didn’t buy much furniture, nor were they very large items, so a minivan could basically transport everything.
The neon lights of the city faded away, and soon Old Wang’s minivan was speeding down the road.
As the sun had just set, the temperature was still a bit hot.
The two were silent all the way, with only the roar of the engine in their ears.
However, for some reason, every time Old Wang glanced at the rearview mirror, he could see Liu Haoyu counting that thick stack of hell money.
The scene was inexplicably strange, after all, who would count how many sheets of hell money they had for no reason?
To ease the strange atmosphere, Old Wang cleared his throat and asked,
“Little Liu, why did you want to buy that house?”
However, after speaking, he suddenly felt something was wrong and added,
“I’m not asking as a sales manager, I’m just asking out of curiosity as a passerby. If you don’t want to answer, then forget it.”
Facing Old Wang’s question, Liu Haoyu put the counted hell money into the bag and, after thinking for a moment, replied.
“I have no choice. In this society, getting married requires a house and a car. For a poor person like me, buying a house in the city is out of the question, so I planned to buy a secluded villa like this.”
“Haha!” Old Wang chuckled in agreement, then continued, “You are still young. When you buy a car in the future, this twenty-kilometer distance will be nothing.”
After saying that, the two ran out of topics, and the atmosphere fell silent again.
However, for some reason, Old Wang felt that Liu Haoyu was constantly looking at him, or rather… looking at his forehead.
“Is there something on my face?”
“There’s nothing on it.”
Liu Haoyu looked at Old Wang’s somewhat purple-black forehead and said nonchalantly.
“I just feel that your luck might not be very good recently.”
“Little Liu, you can see that?” Old Wang was amused. He smiled dismissively, “But you just told me not to be superstitious not long ago, and now you’re telling me this.”
“You can just take it as a joke.”
Liu Haoyu didn’t say anything more, and at this moment, the minivan finally arrived in front of the haunted house.
After Old Wang parked the car, he couldn’t help but shiver as he looked at the dilapidated and grim house in front of him.
If it were him, let alone living in it, just seeing it would make him want to stay far away.
This house, by all appearances, was not a place for living people.
Perhaps due to his apprehension, Old Wang moved the items more quickly.
Soon, the two had unloaded all the furniture from the minivan. Since they weren’t large items, Old Wang couldn’t wait to say,
“Little Liu, it’s getting late, and I have other things to get back to. I’ll have to trouble you to move these things in by yourself. They’re not heavy.”
“Thanks.”
Liu Haoyu counted the items and, after confirming there were no problems, he again focused his gaze on Old Wang’s forehead.
It was still purple-black. In plain language, this situation meant he was bound to have a bloody disaster.
Thus, Liu Haoyu couldn’t help but remind him,
“On your way back, be careful…”
“Little Liu, you’re worried about me. It’s okay, I’m a very steady driver.”
Old Wang, still apprehensive, didn’t wait for Liu Haoyu to finish his sentence. He sat in the driver’s seat, stepped on the accelerator, and with the roar of the engine, the minivan sped away, disappearing into the vast night.
Liu Haoyu could only hold back the latter half of his sentence.
“Alright, let’s move these things inside first.”
It took Liu Haoyu a little time to bring all these things into the haunted house.
Then, he transported them to the bedroom in batches.
The wind at night blew the windows, making creaking sounds, but when a chilling and terrifying gaze fell on his back, these sounds abruptly stopped.
It was as if he had lost his hearing.
Both the chirping of insects outside and the drafts blowing through the house fell silent.
The air was filled with the scent of damp, decaying wood, making one feel uncomfortable just by smelling it.
Liu Haoyu was already accustomed to this smell. He put all the things he bought today into the bedroom. After a simple arrangement, he took a lantern and walked towards the third floor.
He planned to investigate the truth about this haunted house under the cover of night.
The house was large, with three floors, each with about ten rooms.
It was obvious that before this haunted house was abandoned, it was the residence of a prominent family.
But for some unknown reason, it had fallen into disrepair.
What was even more horrifying was the resentment accumulated in this house.
Liu Haoyu had never seen such strong resentment, as if it had turned into a tangible and viscous aura, making it difficult to breathe.
It was cold and eerie. As soon as one stepped into it, terrifying images, whether illusions or reality, would appear in one’s mind.
Normally, with such thick resentment, there would be a very terrifying fierce ghost.
And it would mercilessly and brutally kill anyone who entered the mansion.
Liu Haoyu had seen many such incidents.
However, from Old Wang’s account, the previous buyers who entered this house were all frightened, and the most severe case was only fainting from fright. They later recovered after treatment.
This almost went against common sense.
Perhaps this fierce ghost still had its consciousness and didn’t want to harm people?
But judging by the accumulated resentment here, even if it didn’t want to harm people now, if it stayed here for a long time, it would surely gradually lose its original nature and transform into a true fierce ghost.
What Liu Haoyu had to do now was to uncover the truth of this haunted house.
Where did this resentment come from, and what was the deal with the fierce ghost?
Following the stairs, Liu Haoyu reached the third floor.
The corridor on the top floor was even more dilapidated, with decaying wood everywhere that could break at any moment.
To avoid falling, Liu Haoyu took out his flashlight, and the white beam illuminated the dim corridor.
However, this light could only illuminate a very small area.
So, it was better not to turn on the light. Once the light was turned on, except for the illuminated area in front, the rest of the place became even darker. In contrast, this made it even more terrifying.
In this windless and completely silent environment, Liu Haoyu observed the corridors on both sides, then selected a room, cautiously pushed open the door, and walked in.
