Chapter 12: Uninvited Guest
“Woooo—Buzz—!!!”
The piercing alarm sound tore through the silence of the old house like a screeching fierce ghost.
The formation in the entire building was activated, and the runes on the walls suddenly lit up with scarlet radiance, spreading through the wooden structure like blood vessels.
Qin Liu clutched her aching forehead, curled up on the ground, but a triumphant smile curved her lips.
“Success!”
She had bet correctly—
The formation in this room would indeed trigger the highest level of alarm due to her “self-harm.” After all, she was the “sacrifice” meticulously raised by Gu Qianyang, and no harm could come to her.
Hurried footsteps came from outside the door, accompanied by the servants’ panicked shouts.
“What’s going on? Why did the alarm suddenly go off?”
“Could it be that someone entered that room?!”
“Damn it! Master said she absolutely cannot be harmed!”
Listening to the chaotic sounds outside, Qin Liu quickly got up, wiped the blood from her forehead, and leaned against the bed as if weak, her eyes calmly observing her surroundings.
She had to stall for time so that Liu Haoyu could successfully infiltrate the basement.
However, just as she thought the plan was proceeding smoothly, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open by a cold, eerie force—not by a servant, but by something invisible, slowly, silently pushing open a gap.
“…”
Qin Liu’s breath hitched.
Outside the door, no one was there.
The lights in the corridor flickered dimly, as if being interfered with by something. Even more bizarrely, a trail of wet footprints slowly appeared on the floor, inching… towards her.
And at that moment, the candle on the table instantly lit up with a faint blue flame.
How could this be?!
Qin Liu’s pupils contracted violently; she hadn’t forgotten what Liu Haoyu had said.
If the candle ignited on its own, it meant… something terrifying had entered this room.
“Drip.”
A drop of viscous liquid fell from the ceiling, landing on her hand.
She looked down; it was blood.
Seeing the blood, Qin Liu suddenly looked up.
On the ceiling, a small girl was hanging upside down, her eyes meeting Qin Liu’s.
This girl was covered in dense stitched lines, her skin a pale white like that of a dead person, her mouth split unnaturally to her gums, revealing terrifying white teeth.
Viscous blood continuously seeped from the stitched lines on her body and dripped onto the floor.
The female ghost let out a hoarse sound from her throat.
“It seems you’re the daughter Gu Qianyang spoke of…”
“Who are you?”
The ghost’s horrifying appearance made Qin Liu’s heart pound. She didn’t know who this female ghost was, but judging by her chilling aura, this guy was definitely not to be trifled with!
“You don’t need to know who I am, because you’re about to die.”
The female ghost flashed a hideous smile.
“If you die, I imagine that Gu Qianyang fellow will be quite upset…”
Hearing this, Qin Liu silently took a step back.
At this moment, she caught sight of a servant lying outside the open door.
He must have opened the door, allowing this female ghost to sneak into the room.
She clutched the copper coin Liu Haoyu had given her; in this situation, using it should be foolproof…
“Bang!”
Just as Qin Liu was thinking, the window was suddenly smashed open.
Both the female ghost and Qin Liu looked towards the window simultaneously.
Appearing there was a person dressed in black, wearing a hood, with two cat tails growing from their back.
Qin Liu knew this person.
She was reportedly one of Gu Qianyang’s partners in hunting down the Night Walker.
And judging by the two tails, she wasn’t human, but a Nekomata.
The cold wind from outside rushed into the room, making the candlelight on the table sway violently.
The Nekomata landed lightly in front of the bed, squatting on the bedside table, her two tails swaying slowly behind her.
At such close range, Qin Liu could clearly see the face hidden beneath the Nekomata’s hood.
Undeniably, this Nekomata was beautiful, but her vertical pupils, glowing green in the darkness, were somewhat unsettling.
“Yo? Little one, you’re not asleep yet… What’s with your forehead later?”
The Nekomata’s voice was sickeningly sweet.
She looked at Qin Liu’s swollen, even bleeding forehead and couldn’t help but frown slightly.
“Did you fall?”
Qin Liu shook her head and pointed to the top of her head, about to say something.
But this Nekomata seemed to understand.
“Oh… it seems you were scared by the guest in the room.”
The corners of her mouth curved upwards into a playful smile.
“What’s going on with that old man Gu Qianyang, trying to catch a ghost and almost losing his own home.”
After being sensed by the Nekomata, Qin Liu saw out of the corner of her eye that the female ghost hanging upside down on the ceiling instantly showed a fierce and terrifying expression.
The temperature in the room dropped sharply, but the Nekomata remained unfazed. She took out a silver bell from her pocket and shook it gently.
“Ding-a-ling…”
A visible sound wave then spread through the air.
Facing this sharp and deadly attack, the female ghost above let out a piercing shriek, her form beginning to distort and blur.
“Tsk tsk… It’s just a clone, but it’s quite tricky.”
The Nekomata muttered, looking at the female ghost that appeared not far from her.
At this moment, the female ghost’s hair moved as if in a wind, her resentful and hateful eyes fixed on the Nekomata before her.
“This is bad!”
The Nekomata seemed to understand the female ghost’s strength. Without a word, she closed her eyes, but this gave the female ghost time to retaliate.
Qin Liu also felt a strange power fluctuating in the room, a power that felt… similar to the hallucinations she had encountered before.
Was she creating an illusion?!
Seeing that the power had not yet affected her, Qin Liu didn’t hesitate and immediately bolted, escaping to the outside of the room.
As the Nekomata had closed her eyes, she was unaware that Qin Liu had already escaped.
She could only sense an immense chill from the top of her head; the female ghost was charging!
With no other option, she could only brace herself and fight the opponent.
On the other side, Qin Liu, who had scrambled out of the room, slammed the bedroom door shut heavily and picked up the servant’s key from the ground, locking the door securely.
Beyond the woman’s shrill ghostly screams and the Nekomata’s incessant curses coming from the other side of the door.
There were also all sorts of chaotic noises, and even the sound of wooden planks being torn apart.
These sounds made Qin Liu tremble with fear.
Looking at the dark corridor, she dared not delay and hurried towards the basement.
Compared to that Nekomata, Liu Haoyu was more trustworthy.
