Chapter Forty-Five: This Thieving Bird
“Chirp chirp!”
Gu Yu was extremely touched to finally hear Zha Zha’s voice, not expecting this darn bird to actually deign to return.
Agreements! Time sense! Where did it all go! Gu Yu’s gaze was a bit unfriendly as he watched Zha Zha hop over. Perhaps sensing this, Zha Zha didn’t dare to approach directly. Instead, it hopped towards a patch of grass and then emerged, a person in its bird beak, which it dragged directly in front of Gu Yu. As if to atone for its misdeeds, Zha Zha’s actions made Gu Yu smile and shake his head, thinking how intelligent Zha Zha was. Were ordinary birds this smart!
Gu Yu nudged the person Zha Zha dragged over with his foot. Seeing that the person was unconscious and already dead as a doornail, Gu Yu felt a bit of sympathy for this fellow. Zha Zha’s poison was extremely potent. After being poisoned, this person didn’t even have time to react before immediately going to meet Yama in the Underworld.
However, Gu Yu didn’t have time to sympathize with enemies, nor did he pay attention to the fawning Zha Zha. Instead, he circled the patch of grass where Zha Zha had gone. Seeing the people lying in the grass, Gu Yu immediately walked forward. He crouched down and searched, and after confirming they were from the Tianjue Organization, Gu Yu didn’t search any further. Instead, he directly asked Zha Zha about its achievements in the past few days. Had it seen any special places…
Because he didn’t know how long the human bone treasure map had been circulating, Gu Yu had also come to terms with the fact that the possibility of the treasure appearing right before him was unlikely. Therefore, Gu Yu began to shift his attention to special places, wanting to see if any treasures were buried there. As a common saying goes, when something is out of the ordinary, there must be a reason. It was highly possible that special treasures were buried in special places. At least, it was better than searching blindly like a headless fly; perhaps some clues to the treasure could be obtained by searching according to the deduced results.
“Chirp chirp!! Chirp chirp chirp, chirp! Chirp chirp chirp chirp…” As Zha Zha flapped its wings and began to draw on the ground, chirping incessantly, Gu Yu quickly understood its experiences of the past few days. It turned out that after receiving the order, Zha Zha immediately flew to the vicinity and began to search quickly. In these deep mountains and old forests, it was not a safe place, so by accident, Zha Zha encountered danger. Besides almost being eaten by a spider web, it was also chased by a leopard and attacked by a swarm of bats… Thus, after two days of hardship, Zha Zha still hadn’t found any clues about the treasure. When it was close to the agreed time, Zha Zha felt that it would be scolded by its master again, which made it have the urge not to go back. With this thought, Zha Zha chose to explore one last place. If there were no discoveries, it could only go back to accept the criticism.
However, sometimes, things are just that coincidental. The cave Zha Zha explored last was a very magical place. As soon as it flew in, it saw countless white crystals inside, which looked very much like crystalline salt. It tasted them with its beak, finding them spicy with a cooling sensation, which made the bird feel very strange. It wouldn’t eat such stuff even if it were given for free. However, Gu Yu found these white columnar crystals very strange. After all, this was just an ordinary cave, why would such crystals appear here? The taste was also not like salt…
After discovering that this cave was unusual, Zha Zha suddenly remembered Gu Yu’s instructions when it left, which made it excited, believing this was the place Gu Yu wanted to find! Its mission was finally completed. After Zha Zha left the cave, it meticulously recorded the surrounding environment, in case it forgot later… Once it confirmed it had fully remembered, Zha Zha immediately spread its wings and flew back. But, it got lost. Yes, although it had carefully remembered the location of the cave, Zha Zha couldn’t find its way back. In the end, it could only try its luck one by one. Hearing this, Gu Yu’s mouth couldn’t help but twitch. He never expected that the reason Zha Zha returned so late was because it got lost… This bird was too much of a weakling! How could a bird get lost???
It was also Zha Zha’s good luck that it returned within just one day, like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse. If its luck were bad, it might have returned after a week, by which time the chance would have long passed. Shaking his head helplessly, Gu Yu didn’t say anything more. Instead, he asked Zha Zha to take him to find Gu Mengyao and the others to see if they had made any discoveries. If not, then they would go to that cave as Zha Zha described. He hoped Gu Mengyao and the others had made new discoveries. Because listening to Zha Zha’s description, Gu Yu always felt that this thieving bird was lying to him, trying to cover up its laziness.
“Chirp chirp!” Unaware of Gu Yu’s thoughts, Zha Zha was still immersed in the joy of completing its mission. Seeing Gu Yu wanting to find Gu Mengyao and the others, it immediately chirped at Gu Yu. Immediately, Zha Zha’s size rapidly increased, and Gu Yu skillfully stepped onto its back. As Zha Zha flapped its wings, the person and the bird left.
…”Sister, it’s been three days already. Is my brother-in-law really okay?”
“Instead of worrying about your brother-in-law, you should look at your own condition! How is the wound left by the assassin last night? Has it become infected?”
It was already the third day, and Gu Mengyao and the others were still searching for a place where the treasure might be hidden, looking for any special spots they could investigate promptly. However, they had found nothing so far. Moreover, among them, except for Gu Mengyao, everyone else was injured. Although the Tianjue Organization would not actively attack Gu Yu and his group, they would not stop them as desperately as before. As long as someone from Gu Yu’s group survived, they wouldn’t have to worry about the treasure’s location being lost. Therefore, the assassins attacking Gu Mengyao and the others were increasing, and their offensive was becoming more intense.
Even though Gu Mengyao had been carefully guarding against them, there were always oversights. When attacked by those assassins who exploited every opportunity, everyone in the team was injured. Of course, those attacking assassins had already become corpses. In these three days, the number of people killed by Gu Mengyao and the others was several times higher than that killed by Gu Yu. However, they still couldn’t stop these people from rushing to their deaths, which was extremely annoying.
“It’s just a small injury, it’s nothing!”
“Don’t force yourself. When your brother-in-law comes, you and Yi Dian Hong should get some sleep first.”
“Sister, I don’t…”
“Be good.” Seeing Gu Qingheng’s pale face, Gu Mengyao’s gaze became stern, which made Gu Qingheng dare not say anything more afterwards. He could only nod reluctantly. He was still thinking about how the situation would develop, but his sister’s intention was for him to hide in the space… In that case, wouldn’t he miss many exciting scenes?
