Chapter 50: Questioning
“…”
Without a word, Lu Zhiyin threw the utility knife in her hand aside, its blade hitting the ground with a clear clink.
The crisp sound woke Qin An. She shifted her gaze from Lu Zhiyin to the body on the steps, still warm.
This was her nominal younger brother, her father’s adopted son, and practically her father’s designated heir.
Killing him, one could imagine how angry Qin An’s father would be.
“You, why, did you kill him!”
Gritting her teeth, Qin An could barely suppress her anger. She grabbed Lu Zhiyin’s neck and lifted the blood-soaked girl.
“Uh, mmm… ah… ah…”
Her neck gripped tightly, Lu Zhiyin couldn’t breathe. She didn’t struggle, nor did she show any panic. She stared fixedly at Qin An.
Such a look from Lu Zhiyin made Qin An suddenly release her hand.
“Why… why did you kill him, answer me.”
Qin An didn’t mourn the loss of her so-called younger brother. She just couldn’t understand why Lu Zhiyin would do something so insane.
If she herself had killed someone, there would still be a glimmer of hope. But Lu Zhiyin killed him, and her father wouldn’t let her go.
Lu Zhiyin would die.
Her heart felt as if it were clutched by an invisible large hand. Qin An shook her head helplessly, her anger slowly receding, replaced by panic and some inexplicable emotions.
“Because you couldn’t beat him.”
Lu Zhiyin propped herself up with her hands on the ground, her palms sticky with blood. She felt a bit sick.
“You didn’t dare to act, so I helped you. Now, you don’t have to worry about the consequences of killing him.”
Lu Zhiyin lowered her eyes. She still couldn’t explain anything clearly, unable to articulate why she was helping Qin An like this.
“…”
Qin An looked at the girl in front of her. She listened to the girl’s words and was dazed again.
Was it for her that she committed such a deed? But why? Why be so good to her? Shouldn’t she be the target of her hatred?
Qin An became even more confused.
“Now, call the police. Report me, and you can absolve yourself from his death. You should also get your father’s attention as you wished without any accidents. You don’t need to gamble anymore. Just, remember to help me get Leng Qing Qiu out.”
Lu Zhiyin pointed to the body on the steps, her expression indifferent.
She was indeed quite indifferent. Anyway, she had another life, and currently didn’t care much about dying. As long as the female lead, whose quest hadn’t been completed, didn’t die, that was enough.
“……”
Qin An’s gaze flickered between the boy’s corpse and the girl sitting in the pool of blood. She took out her phone, opened her mouth, and truly couldn’t bring herself to sell out Lu Zhiyin for her father’s attention.
“Uh…”
She clutched her phone tightly, and in the end, still dialed her father’s number.
After a few rings, the call was answered.
“What’s wrong? Suddenly remembered to call me.”
The voice on the other end of the phone sounded a bit lazy, lacking any sense of authority, unlike how Lu Zhiyin had imagined.
But it didn’t matter, it was all the same.
Lu Zhiyin closed her eyes, ready to hear Qin An’s report.
“Father… I… I killed your adopted son.”
As Qin An finished speaking, Lu Zhiyin’s eyes snapped open.
She looked at Qin An with disbelief.
Qin An noticed Lu Zhiyin’s gaze. Not daring to meet Lu Zhiyin’s eyes, she simply turned away.
Lu Zhiyin had gone to such lengths for her, and Qin An couldn’t just watch Lu Zhiyin die.
So, she chose to take the blame herself.
If it were her, it wouldn’t be a death sentence at most, just a few years in prison.
“…I understand. I’ll have the driver pick you up later. Come over, I want to see you.”
To Qin An’s surprise, her father didn’t sound that angry, but Qin An was still very nervous.
“Mmm… I’ll be back.”
She glanced at Lu Zhiyin one last time.
Without further conversation, Qin An’s father quickly hung up the phone. With a dial tone, Qin An put her phone away.
“Why take my blame? Aren’t you afraid of doing this?”
Lu Zhiyin looked at Qin An, puzzled.
“…I don’t know…”
Qin An pursed her lips. She thought that perhaps she was indeed as Lu Zhiyin always said, a fool.
Logically, reporting Lu Zhiyin and waiting for her father’s summons would be the more stable option. But Qin An couldn’t stand by and watch someone who was good to her die for her.
Although they often bickered with Lu Zhiyin, the time spent with her was still happy, wasn’t it?
She touched her chest, Qin An wasn’t sure if that was true, or rather, she knew it, but was unwilling to admit that she had developed some feelings for Lu Zhiyin?
Who knows about matters of the heart?
“…So stupid.”
Lu Zhiyin touched the wound on her palm, a stinging pain returning.
Fortunately, the wound wasn’t deep and didn’t require special treatment or bandaging.
“Oh, I’m probably just that stupid.”
Rarely, Qin An didn’t deny Lu Zhiyin’s words.
She took Lu Zhiyin to another floor, then stripped Lu Zhiyin of her school uniform and trousers, giving her own to her.
“Here, put it on.”
Pointing to the clean school uniform on the ground, Qin An quickly changed into Lu Zhiyin’s blood-stained uniform.
“I’m leaving.”
After swapping uniforms, Qin An hurried downstairs, leaving Lu Zhiyin alone in the corridor again.
Well… and her wheelchair.
Slowly climbing back into her wheelchair, Lu Zhiyin looked at the ill-fitting school uniform and then at the closed apartment door beside her.
“Sigh…”
She sighed, feeling a bit troubled.
If Qin An didn’t send her to prison, she would still have to face Long Qinxin.
Wearing ill-fitting clothes and appearing in a different place than agreed upon. These two things alone made it difficult for Lu Zhiyin to explain, let alone the blood in her hair.
Lu Zhiyin leaned back against the wheelchair, staring blankly at the silent corridor.
“Forget it, I’ll take it one step at a time…”
She felt tired and stopped thinking about unnecessary things, instead closing her eyes to rest.
She probably only had a moment of respite, and there was a need to use this small amount of time to rest and adjust her mindset.
Killing wasn’t easy for Lu Zhiyin to accept. Although she had been forced to kill by Leng Qing Qiu before, that was different from today’s situation.
Back then, she was forced to commit murder; she was the victim. But today was different, today she was purely the perpetrator.
“I must be a real evil person, scum now…”
From a fake scumbag to a real scumbag, was this considered growth? Lu Zhiyin touched her chest again, and she remembered that hateful bird of a person who had caused her to fall to such a state.
“It’s all her fault.”
Pushing all the blame onto the so-called deity, Lu Zhiyin lay in her wheelchair and soon fell into a deep sleep.
