Chapter 450: Promise and Promise (3k)
As the Black-clad Youth spoke, the previously quiet hall fell silent. Su Ze’s eyes widened, and he turned to look at the seats on the left. Mr. Zhou was bewildered, remaining silent but thinking hard, yet he couldn’t recall anyone.
At least, among those who lived with him and had some achievements, there was no one named that.
After a moment’s thought, he cupped his hands towards the Black-clad Youth in an old Dragon Country greeting and tentatively asked, “May I ask, young brother, who is this ‘Su Jiu’ you speak of? I’ve thought it over and have no impression. Could it be a mistake?”
“No impression?”
The Black-clad Youth was stunned by his question. He then looked at the address on his phone, confirming he hadn’t made a mistake. He asked with some uncertainty, “Old Patriarch Su, the route provided by our superiors is definitely here. Are you sure there’s no such person in your family? Perhaps that senior is usually very low-key, do think about it again.”
“Who could it be… The scale of this gift delivery is at least that of a Dragon Hunter Commander, it must be a Battle King.”
Hearing this, Mr. Zhou fell into thought. A senior? Could it be someone from his generation, but his cousins who had branched off early?
It didn’t seem so, because these people were already certain…
And Su Jiu, watching the two people conversing in front, felt a strange sensation – could they be talking about her?
But they mentioned Dragon Hunters and knew the location of her old home. It was likely a homophone.
Just as everyone was at a loss, Su Ze, who had frozen in place, licked his dry lips. He glanced at Su Jiu and spoke suddenly from his seat, “Grandpa, I know there’s someone in our family named ‘Su Jiu’…”
“Ze, quickly say which elder it is. If possible, please let her come out to meet us.”
Upon hearing this, Mr. Zhou’s face lit up with joy. He waved his hand with a smile, realizing it was indeed someone from their side. It seemed his eldest grandson even had the contact information for that person.
“An elder… no.”
Su Ze’s eyes twitched. He didn’t know how to express his thoughts but simply shook his head and looked towards Su Jiu and the others conversing with his grandmother. He took a deep breath and then slowly said:
“That person is my cousin Su Jiu, who is sitting over there. She left with Third Uncle to another place a long time ago and hasn’t returned for many years. It’s normal for you to forget.”
“It seems that is her name.”
Hearing Su Ze’s answer, Mr. Zhou’s raised hand felt awkward. He looked at Su Jiu and the other with great surprise and murmured, repeating what he had just said, “Third child’s daughter? I remember now, you seem to be called Su Jiu…”
As everyone’s gaze fell upon Su Jiu, especially Su Mengmeng, who was being held by her grandmother, her mouth seemed wide enough to fit a few Gugu Bird eggs, as if saying—
No, didn’t you say you were just a regular Magic University Student before? Now you’ve transformed into a leader of the Dragon Hunters, completely detached from the common people, hey!
Su Jiu blinked her eyes and exchanged glances with the “Miss Bai” beside her. What should she do? She had originally planned to slack off, eat the New Year’s Eve dinner, and then head north.
But she really wasn’t a Dragon Hunter.
Seeing Su Jiu’s surprised expression, Mr. Zhou immediately turned his head to look at the Black-clad Youth in the center of the hall and asked with some uncertainty, “Do you gentlemen know the appearance of that senior Su Jiu? We only have a junior under twenty named [Su Jiu] here. She’s sitting on the left side, the eldest daughter of my third child.”
“Under twenty?”
The Black-clad Youth was stunned. He had received instructions to deliver a congratulatory gift to a senior named [Su Jiu]. Apart from the location, everything else was mysterious, and the senior’s appearance was a blank. However, one thing was confirmed –
Out of politeness, he turned to look at Su Jiu. Seeing her youthful appearance, he pondered for a moment and then asked with a smile, “I’m not familiar with that senior’s information, only that the itinerary originally sent to Magic City was changed to Linbai City in Huainan Province. It must have been modified because of that senior. If this Miss [Su Jiu] is also from Magic City, then that’s it.”
Upon hearing the words “Magic City,” everyone, including Mr. Zhou, understood. He knew his third son was now in Magic City holding a leisurely position. Instantly, his gaze turned to his granddaughter with hope. Having a teacher in the Imperial Capital had already made him extremely pleased.
If there was a young commander, it would truly be a blessing from their ancestors. A university teacher couldn’t compare to a Dragon Hunter Commander; the latter commanded troops and was a city-guard-level expert.
“We did indeed come from Magic City.”
At this point, Su Jiu couldn’t play coy anymore. She stood up helplessly. This indirect answer led everyone to believe she acknowledged the gift was for her.
The Black-clad Youth, upon hearing Su Jiu’s confirmation, breathed a sigh of relief. Then, remembering something, he asked again, “Then, senior, do you know of any taverns in Huainan?”
Hearing this, Su Jiu finally understood. This was not some year-end bonus from the Dragon Hunters, but rather a gift from an elder of the Night Watcher. She replied helplessly, “Fuzhou.”
As Su Jiu spoke this word, the Black-clad Youth immediately smiled and cupped his fists respectfully, “Senior Su Jiu, this is the password given to us by our superiors. Since you answered correctly, it proves there are no issues. jiu, we shall take our leave. We have other places to deliver gifts to and will not linger.”
With that said, he waved to the people on his right and bowed to Su Jiu and Mr. Su in the main hall before stepping out the door and slowly leaving.
“Farewell.”
Su Jiu also bowed slightly, chuckling.
“Gentlemen, this is a small token of my appreciation. Please don’t mind it.”
Seeing that the Black-clad Youth had recognized Su Jiu’s identity, Mr. Zhou’s face immediately bloomed into a smile like an old chrysanthemum. He stepped forward and handed out several red envelopes to the black-clad individuals, then escorted them out of the house.
Watching this scene, Su Jiu smiled helplessly and sat down again. Su Mengmeng, nestled in Su Jiu’s grandmother’s arms, looked at her with disbelief and suddenly exclaimed, “Sister Su Jiu, didn’t you say you were a student? How are you being treated as a senior by such a high-level Dragon Hunter?”
“Little Jiu, tell your grandma too. I didn’t expect your third child’s daughter to be more promising than him.”
As she spoke, Su Jiu’s grandmother also looked over, her still charming face showing anticipation. Even Su Ze, who knew some of Su Jiu’s “background,” looked over.
With everyone’s gaze on her, Su Jiu’s mouth twitched. She glanced at the “Miss Bai” who was chuckling, and a strong urge to reprimand her arose, but it was suppressed by reason. She scanned her surroundings and then looked mysteriously at Su Mengmeng, slowly saying, “Didn’t I tell my cousin before that I was a medical student? It was because I saved a high-ranking Dragon Hunter…”
Su Jiu spoke volubly, leaving the Su family stunned. She instantly established an image of a “benevolent healer.” Not only did Su Jiu’s grandmother admire her, but even Su Mengmeng, who had previously shown disdain towards her, revealed a look of approval.
After all, arrogance is not the same as incompetence.
This made the “Miss Bai,” who feared no chaos, puff out her cheeks. She really wanted to expose her and loudly exclaim, “Don’t listen to this person talking nonsense. Have you ever seen a doctor who’s always fighting?!”
But there were more important things to do, and it was best not to disturb them for now… She quietly picked up her phone again, looked at the Blood Princess emoji on her phone, smiled slightly, and then placed her fingers on the screen, typing a message—
[I’ll wrap them with her.]
As the night grew deeper, more and more people filled the hall. Su Jiu explained herself over and over again, almost convincing herself. Seeing that attention was gradually shifting away from her, she used the excuse of going to the restroom to sneak away.
“After we celebrate New Year’s Eve tomorrow, we’ll fly to the Akans Mountain Range in western Bear Country to seek help from the Snow Demon for your core day trial.”
Pulling Bai Zhi’s hand, they returned to the corridor filled with Beginner Magic Crystals. The magic crystal lamps stretched their slightly petite figures. In the otherwise quiet environment, Bai Zhi’s voice suddenly sounded:
“Instead of going for extreme challenges, the kitchen probably hasn’t been tidied up. Let’s go check the kitchen.”
“To the kitchen?”
Su Jiu was slightly startled. She turned to look at the person beside her, only to meet a very serious face. She instinctively asked back, feeling somewhat puzzled.
Seeing Su Jiu’s dazed expression, Bai Zhi shook her head, pulled her hand again, and walked slowly along the gravel path where the servants carried dishes. In a voice only they could hear, she said, “Has someone forgotten a promise they made to a friend?”
“A promise… what promise?”
Hearing Bai Zhi’s words, Su Jiu stopped. She reached out and pinched her rather soft and smooth face before saying with a laugh, “You’re not thinking of sneaking in to steal cake, are you?”
“Don’t pinch my face!! It’ll get round and ugly!”
Her face attacked, Bai Zhi quickly took two steps back, gently batting away Su Jiu’s “perverted hand” before rolling her eyes and continuing to walk. She said softly, “Of course, it’s to wrap dumplings for your friend from outside the domain. Didn’t you promise that sister to send her wrapped dumplings?”
Su Jiu originally wanted to tease Bai Zhi a bit, but hearing this, she suddenly remembered that due to too many recent busy matters, she had forgotten her promise with Doubi Xi…
But Bai Zhi knew about this. It was rare for her not to be jealous, considering it was a promise between herself and another woman.
“You…”
Soon, Su Jiu came back to her senses and stared blankly at Bai Zhi. Looking at the girl walking with her hands behind her back, on that classical oval face, her eyes were like small willow leaves, and a faint smile appeared in her eyes.
“What are you looking at! Hurry up!”
