Chapter 505: Communication (3k)
“You are… Dr. Su Jiu?”
Catherine was stunned, her mouth slightly open, as if she didn’t understand why the other party was here. Her gaze swept over the huge head under the scythe again, looking at the long, blood-stained drag mark.
“Who else? I’m here for something, and the most important issue now is to find the Duke.”
Shrugging, Su Jiu smiled and her eyes scanned the room. After a glance, she felt a little emotional in her heart. These people didn’t seem to be injured, and this Duke’s daughter’s approach was quite commendable.
Although her face was still showing confusion, the crisis had been resolved, and Catherine breathed a sigh of relief. She moved aside, her facial muscles relaxed a lot, and said tiredly, “Let’s talk inside. Father, he’s still in the deep mountains, and we haven’t contacted him for a while.”
Nodding, Su Jiu cut open the monster’s head with the scythe, picked up a frosty white magic crystal, and casually put it into her pocket. She also walked slowly towards the door.
Upon entering the room, many tense gazes were cast. The old butler looked at Su Jiu’s posture and asked Catherine, somewhat at a loss, “Young Lady, is this sir acquainted with you?”
He had just heard Su Jiu’s words about breaking through the formation with a single strike. What level of power could achieve such a feat? Only the Duke in the entire Duke’s mansion had such ability, and it would require at least Demigod Level attack power.
Such a big shot, and acquainted with the Young Lady who only knew how to play music, was probably an old acquaintance of the Duke?
But how could he not have any impression?
Most of the gazes, except for a few who were notifying the Snow Guards, were directed at Catherine. In their eyes, this Young Lady did not seem to have such connections. The latter smiled and said softly, “Do you remember that I went to Aers before?”
“Of course we remember…”
The old butler was stunned for a moment, and a bitter smile appeared on his face. He said helplessly, “To cover up your trip, I was severely reprimanded by the Duke, and I lost several months of salary.”
He paused, as if remembering something, and looked at Su Jiu with some surprise, carefully asking, “Could it be that this lady is from Aers?”
“No… she is an international doctor.”
Shaking her head, Catherine looked at Su Jiu again. A smile tugged at her face, which had dark circles, and she said softly, “She performed with our orchestra. Aers was able to achieve a ceasefire, and she was greatly connected to the crimes she exposed, even protecting thousands of refugees. She is an international hero.”
“International doctor?”
Upon hearing this, the old butler’s gaze inadvertently passed over Su Jiu’s huge, blood-stained scythe. He swallowed, and this explanation didn’t seem very convincing.
“There are connections, but not many… As for being a hero, forget it. I’m just a recorder.”
At this moment, Su Jiu interjected. She sighed, and the plaques buried by the graves flashed in her mind, those names, they died in a human war that they should not have been involved in.
But it was worth it.
If humanity continued to consume itself, then many years later, facing the disaster of the Others descending, who would rise up with swords? And would countries dare to unite to resist?
“This sir, you are too modest. The Master said that protecting one person is that person’s hero. How can you not be a hero if you protect so many people?”
The old butler added appropriately. A smile appeared on his wrinkled face. After learning Su Jiu’s identity, his nervousness around a big shot turned into respect.
People fear those with strength, but they respect those with strength who act for the people.
“Perhaps.”
Su Jiu chuckled, feeling the hum of the scythe. She quickly snapped out of her memories, remembering that she came with a mission. She immediately turned to Catherine and said solemnly, “Now is not the time to talk about these old matters. We must contact the Duke immediately. We need to know where he is.”
“Okay—Uncle Lauda, go and organize these servants to start the work of the Duke’s mansion.”
Catherine blinked and did not hesitate too much. She nodded quickly and instructed the butler.
As the servants resumed their work, she took out another communication tool that resembled a pen. After a slight hesitation, she said to Su Jiu quite seriously:
“This is a alchemic communication pen to contact my father. It can communicate regardless of signal, but the special energy inside can only be used three times. I need to know what happened before I use it.”
“The attack on the Duke’s mansion this time was not a coincidence; it might even be a carefully planned assassination…”
Hearing this, Su Jiu had no choice but to explain her experience and guesses to Catherine.
She knew that the letter might not have reached the Ice Sky Vulture. This might be a matter of notification order. It was likely that for beings like Ice Wyrm, a letter was not even needed; a few empty promises would suffice.
Su Jiu mused, and then continued speaking.
Just as she was saying that the “Old Duke” was in danger, Catherine suddenly became agitated and grabbed Su Jiu’s sleeve, asking in a hushed voice, “You mean my father is very likely to be surrounded and annihilated by those monsters? The reason is because they are persistent in seeking the truth?”
“Yes, there’s no time to explain now.”
Su Jiu’s expression was serious, and she pointed to the communication pen in Catherine’s hand, saying, “If possible, please call the Duke now and get his location. We will go and support him together.”
“Okay, but whether my father can be reached is not certain.”
After hearing Su Jiu’s explanation, Catherine no longer hesitated and immediately pressed the metal pen, similar to Su Jiu’s model, but the process was not as complicated.
The next moment, an image was projected from the tip of the pen. The image turned into a black and white “buzzing” projection on the opposite wall, showing that no one had answered.
This also made their hearts tense. Su Jiu frowned. With the Duke’s War God Level strength, it was impossible for him to be so silent and unresponsive.
As if to verify Su Jiu’s guess, the call was answered. The “graying” began to dissipate, revealing a place that looked like a cave. On the other side was a professional man in his forties wearing black-rimmed glasses. His facial features were somewhat similar to Old Master Herb.
His face exuded a serious and stern expression. His gaze swept over Su Jiu and finally landed on Catherine. He asked in confusion, “Miss Winnick, is there a problem with making this emergency call? You know, this communication pen can only be used three times.”
“Head of the Heber Family, I…”
Catherine didn’t know how to explain. She felt that as soon as she spoke, the other party would think she was crazy. She then turned to Su Jiu and said, “Why don’t the lady beside me explain it?”
“Of course. Coincidentally, we have also found traces left by the Ice Phoenix. The Duke went to scout the safety of the forward route, and we who are responsible for searching for information are currently resting.”
On the other end of the image, the person looked at Su Jiu and did not speak, nor did they show any impatience, appearing to be listening intently.
“I am a friend of Old Master Herb and Catherine.”
Taking a breath, Su Jiu stated her identity and got straight to the point. Her eyes were lowered, and her voice was hushed: “Can you return to the city immediately? We have obtained information from intercepting monsters. Many monsters are now looking for you and trying to eliminate the Duke.”
Old Master Herb in the image was stunned for a moment. He adjusted his glasses frame and calmly looked at Su Jiu, saying in a placid tone, “Although I don’t know if what you’re saying is true, the fact that Miss Winnick is making a call suggests it’s serious. However…”
His tone paused slightly, then he gently shook his head and said lightly, “We cannot leave, because we have found traces of the Ice Phoenix’s activities. Moreover, ordinary monsters cannot pose a threat to the Duke. If there is nothing else, please hang up…”
Listening to the other party’s words, Su Jiu felt a little speechless. This was like deliberately walking into a tiger’s den when knowing there was a tiger in it. However, it was possible that the clues they obtained could directly point to the Ice Phoenix.
Thinking this, Su Jiu pursed her lips and continued to ask, “Can you tell us your specific location? We can dispatch the Snow Guard for support.”
“Snow Guard?”
Old Master Herb was surprised for a moment, then nodded in agreement with a smile, saying, “That’s possible. As for the specific location, it’s near where the first Duke gained his power in legend, which is now called Mount Myce.”
“Mount Myce…”
Su Jiu silently noted down the place where the other party was currently located, preparing to bring someone familiar with the way there immediately. She then continued to ask, “What are the clues you mentioned? I remember you said earlier that the Old Duke also went out to look for clues.”
Old Master Herb on the other end of the communication thought for a moment, looked at Su Jiu deeply, and then continued:
“In the nearby snow, we found a few feathers. The quality of the feathers is very different from the Ice Vulture group in the mountains. According to the Duke’s judgment, they must have fallen from the Ice Phoenix.”
Just as Su Jiu was about to hang up, she suddenly thought of something. She looked up sharply at Old Master Herb and suppressed the excitement in her heart, asking, “Wait! Does that feather carry fire elements, and is it still a bit warm?”
“Fire elements? How is that possible? It’s clearly a feather from an Ice Elemental monster, white all over, with ice shards at the root.” Old Master Herb frowned, waved his hand, and said with certainty.
“Is that so?” Hearing this, Su Jiu felt a little disappointed. She had originally guessed that this Ice Phoenix was greatly connected to Fen Shuangluan, but now it seemed their connection was not significant.
“However… this feather does feel very gentle.”
Just as Su Jiu was about to turn to find the Duke, Old Master Herb’s voice suddenly sounded again, with a hint of uncertainty.
