Chapter 6: A New Beginning
Morning sunlight penetrated through the window, shining directly onto the face of the young girl on the bed.
[Is this, sleeping again?]
Su Jun slowly opened his eyes, rubbing them which were slightly difficult to open due to staying up late. He lay on the bed, quietly enjoying the strange feeling of his mind being in a daze immediately after waking up.
“That’s not right! I’m going to be late!!!”
After a brief moment of comfort, as memories slowly surfaced, Su Jun sat up with a jolt.
Yesterday, he had just finished overtime and returned home after ten o’clock. He planned to lie down and play on his phone for a while before taking a bath and going to bed.
However, a game called “Undead Lord” was suddenly pushed to him, which attracted Su Jun’s attention. With a mindset of trying it out, Su Jun clicked on it, and as a result, he became completely engrossed, forgetting about time.
“It’s over! I’m probably going to skip work this morning, but to be honest, the game is really fun.”
Su Jun didn’t even know when he fell asleep, but it was rare for him to stay up late because of a game. He decided to let it go, even if his salary was deducted.
Reaching out and fumbling on the bed, he tried to find his mobile phone, which he had misplaced somewhere. However, he discovered that the bedsheet beneath him felt a bit unusual.
“Eh, wait, where is this?!”
Su Jun, finally regaining his senses, noticed that everything around him was different. This seemed to no longer be his room from before.
Wooden floors, ordinary tables and cabinets, rather sparse decorations, and several conspicuously placed skull decorations on the table. This was absolutely not Su Jun’s old room!
Su Jun rolled over and got up, wanting to look for any clues. Had he been kidnapped after falling asleep in a daze?
His feet landed on the cold wooden floor. The cool sensation sent a shiver through Su Jun, but his body’s inexplicable feeling gave him a slight premonition of something ominous.
He quickly walked to the only mirror in the room, only to be stunned by the scene reflected in it.
Glossy, smooth short hair, cool and indifferent eyes. Even when her eyebrows were furrowed with surprise, her expression showed little fluctuation. A thinly made pajama and a thin and small body naturally evoked a desire to protect.
Standing in front of the mirror was a thin and small girl with short hair!
“What?!”
It was only then that Su Jun realized his voice had also changed. The slightly cold, girlish voice coming from his mouth sounded incredibly out of place.
[This… what’s going on?]
The girl in the mirror waved her arms in a slightly flustered manner, not even noticing that the shoulder strap of her pajamas had slipped off.
[So, did I come here because I stayed up late playing games? Is this, death from overwork?]
Su Jun rubbed his forehead with a slight headache, clearly feeling that his hands had become much smaller.
“Let’s see if there’s anything to prove my identity…”
Although the current situation was strange, as a budding programmer, Su Jun’s necessary calmness was part of his professional demeanor.
He walked to the table. As his consciousness cleared, new memories began to flood into Su Jun’s mind.
He carefully examined everything in the room: the sparse decorations, the empty furniture, and the only noticeable items being the skull-like decorations on the table.
[It’s strange. This doesn’t look like a girl’s room at all!]
At the same time, the small room and the noisy environment outside suggested that the girl’s financial situation was not particularly optimistic.
“Shimizu… Kazumi, Japanese?”
Following the guidance of his memory, Su Jun found the belongings of this body among a pile of things on the table: a rather exquisite student ID.
“Shikoku High School, Regular Department, First Year?”
The girl in the photo also had a cold demeanor, as if this was her natural disposition. However, the name of the school on the photo caught Su Jun’s attention.
The school name, which looked a bit chuunibyou, made Su Jun frown. According to the content of his memory, this was not cosplay, nor the girl’s unrealistic chuunibyou fantasy, but a real school where the girl studied.
“It’s over!”
Su Jun, who had been fantasizing about starting a new life, found himself in a rather extraordinary world.
Shikoku Gakuin’s First Affiliated High School was ranked among the top three high schools nationwide. Its Hero Department had produced several heroes currently in the top ten.
Su Jun’s predecessor had entered Shikoku High School’s senior high department with excellent grades, but because he had no special abilities, he was assigned to the Regular Department.
Although as a student of the regular department, Kazumi’s future prospects might be working in an administrative position at a hero agency, or with a very slim chance, becoming a member of a hero team, it couldn’t stop countless people who wanted to become heroes from applying to Shikoku High School.
“Moreover, this body doesn’t seem as simple as it appears on the surface…”
Su Jun gently raised his left hand and touched the fleeting skull tattoo on his right wrist.
“Gurgle gurgle gurgle gurgle gurgle—”
A rather strange ringing sound suddenly interrupted Su Jun’s action. He turned his head and saw that the black mobile phone on the bedside table was making noise.
He skillfully picked up the small black mobile phone and looked at the screen, which displayed the note “Teacher Ishiryu,” and pressed the answer button.
“Classmate Shimizu, why weren’t you at the morning class today? Are you sick?”
A commanding voice came from the phone. The person on the other end was Kazumi Shimizu’s homeroom teacher at Shikoku High School, Regular Department B-1 class, Teacher Ishiryu Daito.
[It’s over!]
Su Jun quickly searched his memory and found that it was Thursday, and the time on his phone was already half-past eight. It was obvious that the late start and the time he had lost meant Su Jun had missed the morning early class.
“Teacher, I’m sorry. I didn’t feel well today and overslept a bit…”
Even when apologizing, Su Jun spoke in a cold tone, as if it were an innate talent.
“Mmm, come over as soon as possible. If you don’t feel well, you can go to the infirmary to get checked.”
Teacher Ishiryu, seemingly accustomed to Su Jun’s personality, showed no emotional change and simply replied indifferently.
After apologizing to the homeroom teacher twice more and indicating that he would rush to school as soon as possible, Su Jun gently put down the phone.
[Never mind, I’ll go to school and take a look first…]
After looking around the room, Su Jun found no more useful information. Instead, he realized that the memories that had appeared in his mind always led to new discoveries.
“But, the biggest problem now should be figuring out how to wear this thing!!”
Looking at the neatly folded exquisite JK uniform on the chair, our transmigator Su Jun faced his first challenge since the beginning…
