Chapter 86: Resolution
It was difficult to describe the expression on Ishiryu Daito’s face as he walked out of the interrogation room, especially when the young police officer next to him brought up the supermarket surveillance footage and showed it to Ishiryu Daito.
In the surveillance footage, the young girl was brandishing a metal baseball bat, accurately and viciously striking down the colorful thugs one by one. Although upon closer inspection, the true combat power came from the black-haired boy next to the girl, this could not hide the impact of Kazumi’s actions on Ishiryu Daito.
Originally, Kazumi’s influence on him had always been that of a quiet, self-absorbed girl in the corner, doing her own thing. Although she had become a little more cheerful due to her romantic relationship, Ishiryu Daito couldn’t reconcile the thin, petite girl in the video, who was fiercer than a delinquent, with the person he remembered.
He walked out of the interrogation room in a daze, still not recovered from the incident. It wasn’t until the officer kindly tugged at him, preventing him from walking straight into the wall, that he finally came to his senses.
Despite his shock, Ishiryu Daito could distinguish right from wrong. In this matter, as a teacher, he would unconditionally believe that it was not Kazumi’s fault, especially since the other party was a group of ruffians who looked anything but proper.
Therefore, what Ishiryu Daito needed to do now was to bail Kazumi out. A girl with no one to rely on, after enduring such intimidation, was to be locked up in a cold detention center.
This would not only affect Kazumi’s academic progress but would also be extremely detrimental to her mental development in the future. Especially in Ishiryu Daito’s eyes, Kazumi, due to family reasons, was already prone to going astray, and as her teacher, he absolutely would not allow such a thing to happen.
“Officer Sato, could you please tell me what procedures are needed to bail out Kazumi Shimizu? Well, she’s just a student right now, and if she’s detained, it will greatly impact her studies, and her future records will also look very bad.”
Ishiryu Daito, with a fawning expression, looked at the police officer, whose name he had just learned, and asked with some unease.
Officer Sato nodded. He had learned a bit about the girl’s situation from her file and highly admired Ishiryu Daito, a teacher who, despite only having a normal teacher-student relationship with the girl, was willing to go this far.
He took out a file from the drawer beside him and handed it to Ishiryu Daito.
“Teacher Ishiryu, I personally admire your sense of responsibility as a teacher. It’s fortunate for Kazumi Shimizu to have a teacher who cares about her like you do. However, this is no longer a simple brawl.”
Taking the file handed to him by Officer Sato, Ishiryu Daito began to read it seriously.
It was a diagnostic report from a hospital. The report clearly stated that the patient, named Kura Fujino, had suffered a moderate concussion and coma due to being hit on the head with a blunt object. She was currently receiving treatment in the hospital and there was a possibility of her becoming a vegetative state in the future.
With a cold face, Ishiryu Daito read the diagnostic report again. His complexion could now be described as ashen. The surveillance video had clearly shown that the ringleader of the thugs was hit on the head and knocked down by Kazumi with one blow, so there was no possibility of shifting the blame.
But the problem now was that, due to her uncle’s disappearance, Kazumi had essentially lost her only source of income. She even had to work part-time to earn money for living expenses, let alone the high medical costs of treating a vegetative state.
As for Ishiryu Daito himself, he wanted to pay the medical expenses for Kazumi, but it was not displayed. His meager salary, accumulated over so many years, could probably not even cover half of the medical expenses, let alone the continuous subsequent costs.
Trembling slightly, he handed the document back, bowing his head and thinking of a way to save the young girl.
“Officer Sato, if it can be determined in court that they were the ones who started the trouble, would Kazumi be able to take less responsibility?”
Ishiryu Daito, as expected of an elite teacher at Shikoku Junior High School, quickly found a turning point after a moment of panic. If he could contact his lawyer friends, perhaps they could indeed handle this matter a little. The young girl now probably couldn’t handle such an experience.
However, Officer Sato’s words quickly shattered Ishiryu Daito’s unrealistic fantasy.
“Although the incident was indeed caused by Kura Fujino’s side, Kazumi Shimizu’s actions have exceeded the boundaries of self-defense. She is basically guilty of malicious assault, and with the diagnostic report from a formal hospital, even if there’s a lawsuit, her responsibility will not be significantly reduced.”
Officer Sato’s eyes flashed with a hint of regret. He had seen too many young boys and girls ruin their lives due to a moment of impulse. If they had some family background, it would be better.
For ordinary families like Kazumi Shimizu’s, or even families worse off than ordinary ones, the consequence of such an impulse would be the ruin of their entire lives!
What a shame for such a caring teacher…
Sighing helplessly, Officer Sato took out a form and handed it to Ishiryu Daito.
“Alas, if you want to bail her out, you will need to provide more proof and a bail bond. But, let me be clear, even if she is bailed out, the responsibility she needs to bear will not be reduced by a single bit.”
“Teacher Ishiryu, I see all the efforts you’ve made for your student, but sometimes there’s really no way. Everyone has to pay the price for their actions.”
Patting Ishiryu Daito’s shoulder, Officer Sato handed him a pen and poured a cup of water from the nearby water dispenser, placing it in front of Ishiryu Daito. He also greatly respected this teacher who was so concerned about his student.
Tremblingly picking up the pen, he wrote his name on it. But Ishiryu Daito was now thinking about how the young girl would live her life going forward.
At such a young age, she was burdened with such heavy responsibilities, with no family members to help guide her. How could her still immature mind handle all of this?
Just as Ishiryu Daito was about to fill in all his personal information, the tightly shut office door was suddenly opened, and an old, deep voice came from the entrance.
“Thank you for coming here so late, Teacher Ishiryu. Please leave the rest to me.”
