Chapter 143: Feeding Play
Sato Shinichi had no time to discern the thoughts of the young girl at the moment. What echoed in his mind was the scene before the two escaped.
The young man picked up the weapon in his hand and fiercely stabbed it into the enemy’s chest, defeating the vicious enemy and successfully escaping danger with the girl he loved.
Isn’t it a wonderful fairy tale? Just like the little stories in children’s bedtime reading, the prince who slayed the dragon will live happily ever after with the princess.
But in Sato Shinichi’s heart, it wasn’t like that at all. It wasn’t because the two hadn’t completely escaped from real danger, nor was it due to worry about new enemies that might attack again, but because of the words “Kimori Kage” finally said!
Sato Shinichi was shaken.
For a moment, the devilish words of the other party filled his mind, causing the extremely weak evil thought in his heart to grow wildly, and finally grow to the extent that it could drive his body.
Originally, in the young man’s mind, love was loyal and infinitely great, and this girl, whom he had saved and who had likewise saved him, was the one he would protect with his life.
All of this was so fragile in the face of reality: a criminal with surging, frenzied killing intent, a seemingly ridiculous but faintly shining trap, and himself facing an extremely difficult choice.
Perhaps in the face of life and death, everyone would be like this.
Always a selfish creature wanting to survive!
Even though in the end, the young man dispelled the demonic voice that lingered in his mind with strength that emerged from somewhere in his heart, and successfully sent the dagger that should have pierced the girl’s body into the demon’s chest.
But he still couldn’t forgive himself, couldn’t forgive himself for betraying his feelings for the girl, even for just a moment. It was as if he were a knight who had strayed from his creed; perhaps the moment he had that thought, he had already fallen.
He looked back at the pale-faced girl on his back. The sweat dripping from her forehead proved that her condition was not good, but she still held onto his shoulder tightly, as if trying to lessen his physical burden.
Sato Shinichi’s guilt deepened. The girl trusted him so much, yet he had almost done something irreversible.
Finally, the complicated look in his eyes turned into extreme determination. He seriously looked at Kazumi behind him again, as if the boy had made up his mind, and took a heavy step forward.
[At the very least, I must let her escape safely!]
…
By the shallow river, the blond young man was half-crouching on the ground, examining something, while a black-haired girl covered in bandages and wounds sat on a large rock beside him.
The past self was like a puppet driven to achieve a certain goal, unable to think of anything else, always acting according to some unseen guidance.
For some reason, Sato Shinichi’s thoughts were exceptionally clear now, as if some restraints on him had been released after the two escaped.
But Sato Shinichi didn’t have time to ponder the changes occurring within him. The most important thing now was to find a slim chance of survival from the enemy.
[The fact that the other party could pursue us from such a distance proves that he has the ability to track our location. In that case, no matter how far we run, being caught up is only a matter of time.]
With his mind now exceptionally clear, he naturally wouldn’t make the mistake of exhausting his stamina just to escape, like his previous impetuous self.
Using the river to cover their scent and tracks, Sato Shinichi led the injured Kazumi to the edge of the training ground.
This deviation from the original plan also had its own reasoning. Even though “Kimori Kage” had his chest pierced by his dagger at the time.
But there were many subtle points. Whether it was the fact that the other party’s strength allowed him to attack a vital spot directly, or the clearly different touch, and the fact that “Kimori Kage” clearly avoided his vital spots during his frantic attacks, all these made Sato Shinichi’s doubts grow.
Although the other party’s purpose was still unclear to him, one thing was certain: the fake “Kimori Kage” would definitely not lose his ability to act or die so easily.
And the means by which the other party was tracking the two was still unclear, which was why Sato Shinichi chose to move down along the river that could cover their scent, even though it would take him away from the training ground exit, which was his intended destination.
In theory, escaping towards the training ground exit would be a good choice. The rescue heroes would definitely have entered from there, and the closer to the exit, the greater the chance of being rescued.
But now, Mr. Nozawa’s death proved the danger of this plan. Given that the other party possessed enough strength to kill the heroes rushing to their rescue, moving closer to the exit would undoubtedly expose their location.
Therefore, in Sato Shinichi’s view, the best course of action now was to stay as far away as possible from places that could expose their location. When sufficiently strong heroes arrived, they would surely be able to resolve this problem.
After all, Shikoku was his alma mater! As long as that hero who symbolized peace arrived, there would be nothing to worry about or fear.
With this thought, Sato Shinichi’s immensely heavy heart lightened a little. He took out a special filter device and filled a small kettle with water from the stream. After the filter device had fully worked, he took the kettle to the girl on the rock.
“Kazumi, have some water…”
Looking at the girl with a look of faint pain on her face, Sato Shinichi’s eyes flickered with guilt. He lowered his head and handed over the kettle in his hand.
“Shinichi, I…”
She wanted to reach out and take the kettle from Sato Shinichi but found that neither her fractured left hand nor her right hand, which was still pierced by the wooden shard, could take the kettle. She froze in place, but then as if she remembered something, her originally pale little face inexplicably turned rosy.
“Ah, sorry, sorry!”
Seeing Kazumi’s reaction, Sato Shinichi realized that she didn’t have any free hands to take his kettle. He quickly apologized for his somewhat excessive action.
“Feed me.”
But the cold tone that came from the other side made Sato Shinichi raise his head in disbelief. He saw the proud girl looking at him with a slightly blushing face. The hesitant expression on the girl’s face at this moment was not as calm as her words suggested.
The blond young man, who was frozen in place, couldn’t help but swallow. He opened his mouth dumbly.
“Ah… okay!”
(ps: Still stuck in writing, I really don’t know why it’s so stuck, I’m so frustrated.)
(ps again: Is this a contraction of world lines? I remember describing Kazumi’s appearance as very ordinary. Why are some people saying that I wrote it as very good-looking earlier, and there’s also a setting about glasses suppressing appearance value??? Did I transmigrate or did I really forget QAQ)
