Chapter 91: Escape Route
“Look! The apostate, an ugly monster who gained power from demons, is being pushed to a corner by a beautiful and powerful maiden!”
Just as Yucilaka was feeling hesitant, a bard somewhere began to play the qin and sing loudly.
Ighet also shouted urgently.
“Young lady, be careful, this woman might go berserk when cornered!”
“Brat, who are you calling a dog!”
The bard and Ighet’s warning made the female thief furious again. Yucilaka’s blood aura erupted once more, and she drew her sword and rose, her movements swift. With a flick of her wrist, she raised her hand crossbow, pulled the trigger, and shot out a blood-colored line!
“Bloodthirsty Arrow!”
“Wow! The venomous woman like a scorpion has turned into a mad dog that jumps over walls!”
Dilan, terrified, threw away the qin in his hand and dodged behind Ighet.
Ighet’s face turned pale with fear, but his reaction was far from enough to dodge such an attack.
Before the blood-red crossbow bolt reached him, Ighet felt as if his blood was being shattered. If he took this blow, as a bronze-ranked loser, he’d likely lose ten lives!
“Damn it… Flame Crystal’s barrier, manifest!”
Verafia was forced to cancel the spell she had half-finished chanting. She waved her staff and condensed a shield of flame crystals in front of the young man. The next moment, the blood-red crossbow bolt struck the crystal shield heavily, the intense force causing the flames to vibrate.
However, in that instant, Yucilaka’s steps landed in front of her. The red-haired female ranger’s eyes glowed with a bloody light, and she swung her blade towards the girl!
“You despicable woman! You said you’d fight me, but you attacked my attendant!”
The light of the blood blade easily cut through the hastily raised flames in front of her. Verafia’s small face turned red with anger, but she had to move her lotus steps to avoid Yucilaka’s fiercely sharp blood sword slash.
“Hmph, are all you noble ladies this foolish? In a battle like this, you’re distracted by a mere bronze-ranked loser?”
Yucilaka snorted coldly, her crimson blade light, like her body, tracing tightly against the girl’s delicate form as she moved rapidly, then forcefully slashed down.
“Let this face become your foolish sacrifice! Blood Shadow Sword Slash!”
Yucilaka’s short blade, aimed at the girl’s pure and beautiful face, suddenly erupted with a strong bloody light. A rolling, sharp, knife-like wind swept out, and upon contact, it severed a strand of the girl’s fluttering hair.
Verafia finally held her staff in front of her, her jade-like slender hand gripping it tightly. An immense wave of blazing flames condensed again according to her will.
“Damn it… Flame Expansion!”
With a soft cry, the instantly cast magic detonated the blazing fire elements the girl had gathered. The powerful shockwave caused Yucilaka’s descending sword to pause, and then the impact struck the female ranger.
Verafia also used this impact to evade the blood sword’s attack. As she rapidly retreated, she gripped her staff tightly again, preparing to chant a spell for close combat.
Since she was already engaged in close combat, Verafia naturally wouldn’t be overconfident and engage in a magical duel with such a long chanting time. Moreover, her close-quarters combat ability was far stronger than her mastery of elements…
Suddenly, a look of astonishment appeared in Verafia’s raised big eyes.
The rogue female ranger Yucilaka opposite her didn’t continue attacking up close, but instead, unexpectedly used the impact of the flames to leap towards the outside of the tavern and flee.
Verafia was dumbfounded.
“Young lady, you’re truly stupid! Why would I keep fighting you here?”
Yucilaka’s face showed a mocking expression. While mocking, she didn’t forget to raise her crossbow and unleash a full-power shot.
“Didn’t expect this, did you? This is my escape route!”
“Ugh… You’re shameless!”
Verafia was caught off guard and had to interrupt the spell she had half-finished chanting, raising her hand to quickly cast a shield in front of her.
The surging blood-red arrows bombarded the fiery barrier. The massive force of the collision erupted into a sky-high bloody light, directly destroying the tavern, which had already been severely damaged by the aftermath of the battle!
—
“Cough, cough… Damn it.”
Verafia, covered in dust and grime, climbed out of the tavern ruins. Seeing Yucilaka, who was mocking and ridiculing her, her exquisite little face turned red with anger. She grabbed her staff, and her slender feet in pure white boots stomped angrily on the ground.
“How dare you toy with me like this, it’s unforgivable! Stay where you are!”
Before the girl’s angry voice could finish, she grabbed her staff and pursued Yucilaka.
“Young lady, be careful, she might have a conspiracy!”
Ighet, fearing that the angry little phoenix might falter midway, yelled loudly. However, Verafia didn’t respond. With the boost of speed magic, she quickly disappeared from his sight.
“Is it over… What a despicable and shameless witch. I wish the beautiful maiden who walked out of the flames can make her pay for her crimes! Hey, young man, we survived a disaster, how about we have a drink here?”
Ighet ignored the bard who emerged behind him, shaking his head and walking away. He wasn’t in the mood to drink in a place filled with scattered corpses and blood.
Ighet looked around. The lingering embers still lit the foul, bloody scene on the tainted earth. In the recent battle, not only was this tavern with its considerable history completely destroyed, but many people had also died tragically.
Most of them had perished in the blood storm that Yucilaka had unleashed first.
“Under absolute power, life is so insignificant.”
Ighet couldn’t help but sigh. If Verafia hadn’t been there, he would likely have become one of them.
Besides the bard Dylan, who didn’t look like a gold-ranked expert at all, most of the survivors of the battle’s aftermath were adventurers and mercenaries with good Dou Qi cultivation. The only remaining priest picked up his staff and provided healing to his companions.
“Thank you, young man, for your help.”
Ighet turned his head and saw a middle-aged man in a rather disheveled but clearly noble attire approaching him to express his gratitude.
The middle-aged nobleman was not pedantic, nor did he put on a facade of arrogance like some of his foolish peers.
He knew very well that if it weren’t for the beautiful young mage’s intervention to break Yucilaka’s blood storm, their entire merchant caravan likely wouldn’t have survived.
And although the young man in front of him looked ordinary, judging by the fact that the maiden risked falling into a disadvantageous position to save him, his position in her heart must not be low.
Ighet was obviously unaware of how much the nobleman had thought in that instant. Looking at the other’s attire, Ighet guessed he was the owner of this merchant caravan, so he smiled humbly.
“You are too kind. My young lady simply couldn’t stand these villains who kill the innocent and the weak. Furthermore, any person with a sense of justice would not hesitate to stand up and use their sword to punish the crimes of these vicious thieves!”
Despite saying that, Ighet also knew that the reason the little phoenix was so angry was likely because the dishes she had just ordered hadn’t been eaten much before being affected by Yucilaka’s attack.

I Was The Hero, But I Woke Up as a Phoenix Princess?!
身为勇者的我竟然成了凤凰大小姐
From the travel diaries of a Phoenix Princess reborn from the inferno, chronicling her life on the road with a supposedly “useless” young hero…
On their journey, their fellowship continues to grow: a Dragon Princess of silver frost, a young Vampire Princess with eyes of blood-crimson, the Saintess of Radiant Holy Light, the noble Princess of the White Iris…
“Hmm?” Verafia paused, tilting her head as she gracefully twirled a soft strand of her fiery hair around a finger. A hint of suspicion flickered in her beautiful eyes. “Ignet, why does this sound suspiciously like you’re assembling a harem?”
“My lady, there is a saying: ‘The fish is what I desire, and the bear’s paw is also what I desire.’ A wise man knows that if he can have them both, his home will be harmonious and all his affairs will prosper,” he began, puffing out his chest with the air of a profound philosopher. “Is that not a truly beautiful thing? A… a paragon of peaceful coexistence?”
He faltered under her smoldering gaze.
“…Ahhh! It was a joke! I’m sorry, Milady, please don’t burn me! I swear my only desire is you!”
