Chapter 227: Fire Pigeon
“Is it a poaching group? But, from what you mean, Ig, it looks like they are targeting your own people?”
Ophirolys asked with great curiosity, her voice clear yet soft in the flickering firelight.
Ig lowered the letter in his hand. Ophirolys was sitting by the campfire, knees gathered, holding her delicate dragon tail. Her translucent, crystal-clear ice scales reflected light like gems.
As a young girl of the Dragon Clan, although Ophirolys had never left the Setting Sun Forest before, she had always been interested in the stories of these small humans from books.
“It’s just as you, Little Fei, are thinking.”
Ig said, turning his eyes to Verafia, who had asked the question, “However, it seems these poachers are not strong. They only target commoners and women and children, so this Baron’s request is actually just an ordinary Silver Rank one.”
“Just a Silver Rank request… Hmm, I thought it would be something big. Stuff like this, Ig, you can handle it by yourself. But, this Baron can spend his own money for his people, he seems like a good person.”
Verafia’s voice was quite content. The young girl discarded the roasted meat she had finished, clapped her small hands, and stood up from the ground, stretching her waist lazily.
In the darkening night, the burning orange-yellow flames touched the pure white fabric of Verafia’s dress, and the warm colors outlined the beautiful lines of the young girl’s delicate body.
Ig smiled at the young girl and was about to speak when he suddenly saw a shadow of flame appear in the night. The “flame” seemed to vibrate its wings, like flowing crimson colors swaying in the air, outlining quite smooth lines.
“This is…”
“A fire bird… No, it looks like a pigeon!”
Ophirolys, sitting on the same side as Ig, exclaimed with novelty. She flicked her slender dragon tail and stood up, supporting herself with her palms. The dewy boots between her slender legs reflected a few wisps of firelight.
Ophirolys was no stranger to pigeons, these small birds that always cooed. Since she was little, as a great dragon, Ophirolys had eaten quite a few of these small snacks.
However, she had never encountered a pigeon like this, with such strong magic fluctuations, and flames on its feathers that made her eyes sting, not even as the Little Princess of the Setting Sun Forest, this kingdom of magical beasts.
Ig squinted and saw more clearly that the “flame” that had approached in a few seconds was indeed a pigeon with fiery red feathers and burning flames.
Both are birds, and both are creatures of flame. Well, they both look quite extraordinary… Could this fire pigeon be a relative of our Young Lady?
Ig’s gaze subconsciously drifted to Verafia beside him as he pondered.
“Hey, I’m a Phoenix, how could I have such an ugly pigeon as a relative?”
Verafia kicked Ig indignantly, then grabbed her staff with her slender white hand. The young girl’s pure white face was bathed in moonlight, and excitement appeared in her big eyes. She shouted to the Ice Dragon Girl beside her.
“Ophirolys, and Little Fran, help me catch this pigeon later! Hmph, I was still wondering what to do, but a Pure Fire Spirit has delivered itself to me!”
Before the young girl’s voice even fell, the sound of the fire pigeon’s wings flapping arrived from afar, leaving crimson traces in the air, carrying immense heat and warmth.
“What, you want me to catch this pigeon?”
Ophirolys had not yet figured out what was happening when she heard Verafia’s voice. She instinctively grabbed her dragon spear, and the ice elements present in space condensed in an instant.
The icy airflow, merely by the Ice Dragon Girl’s action, swept rapidly, forming layers of sapphire but extremely hard ice crystals in the air, emitting astonishing cold, blocking the fire pigeon.
“Coo!”
The fire pigeon called out angrily, its wings bringing flame fluctuations that crashed against the ice crystals. The large ice blocks, filled with cold energy, rapidly melted and evaporated into wisps of water vapor under the high temperature of the flames.
“What the, whoa, this pigeon is so hot!”
Ophirolys’s straight dragon spear blocked the front. Cold, hard ice was superimposed on the ornate spear. The air and even the ground were rapidly corroded and frozen due to the rapidly dropping temperature.
But the condensed ice instantly melted. The fire pigeon’s extreme speed was like a dazzling, burning star in the frosty night sky. Its head “boom!”ed against the dragon spear held by the young girl, which had condensed into hard ice in front of her.
The ice, far harder than Mithril or Dark Steel, shattered the moment the fire pigeon collided with it. The Ice Dragon Girl’s boots left straight gouges on the ground.
Almost simultaneously, subtle ice runes on the dragon spear flickered, releasing its full magic power, but it was immediately covered by even more dazzling crimson flames. The immense heat not only melted the ice but even vaporized the surrounding soil and rocks!
“Ugh!”
Ophirolys was knocked back by the rapidly expanding terrifying heat. Suddenly, a flash of scarlet sword light cut straight through the bright fiery curtain, and a slender figure appeared.
Fran, holding the sword hilt, stood in front of the flying Ophirolys. The blade, with cold moonlight flowing along its edge, was then infused with scarlet demonic power, flowing like blood.
“Coo-chirp!” The fire pigeon let out an angry cry. Under the fluctuations of crimson flames, the blood-red demonic power that grew rapidly like a rose withered, and then surged towards the young silver-haired girl!
But suddenly a young girl’s voice, with a hint of amusement, sounded.
“Alright. Little Fran is enough, let this young lady handle it!”
A mage girl, holding only a staff and with faint magic fluctuations lingering around her, walked in front of Fran. The silver-haired girl who had just grabbed her sword seemed to be slightly stunned, but quickly reacted, said something to the young girl, and then retreated behind her.
Verafia smiled lightly, raising her delicate face, like porcelain. In the firelight, strands of her hair were like radiant golden sun. The young girl’s beautiful pupils, as if flowing with golden flames, looked at the fire pigeon in the air with an excited expression.
“Hehehe, my strength will depend on you!”
Verafia revealed her small white fangs and smiled mischievously. Suddenly, she waved the staff in her slender hand, and walls of flames rose from the air!
The flames of the Fire Pigeon, which had easily shattered the Ice Dragon Girl’s ice, hit the flame wall released by Verafia but did not stir up even a ripple, only causing faint golden runes to flash.
