Chapter 155 Envoy
Verafia’s final strike, meant to end Trist, left him with a broken and almost certain-to-die body. However, the dark Star God’s power lingered around his wounds and exposed flesh and blood, supporting his ravaged form as he stood.
This once renowned Knight Commander’s face, once majestic and solemn, was terrifyingly scorched and torn by flames. Yet, beyond the madness, an ecstasy suppressed for an unknown amount of time was clearly revealed.
“Mistetinn’s Staff is in Miss Verafia’s hands… then, this grievous injury he sustained, was it to snatch Kaino’s corpse, to obtain the Frost Calamity’s heart?”
Ain’s emerald eyes narrowed as she saw Kaino’s shattered corpse in Trist’s hand, and the Frost Calamity’s heart beating within the bloody gaps.
As for what Trist intended to do, it was, of course, obvious.
The wood elf girl, drawing her bow with a slender hand, uttered, “Verafia, we must stop him quickly!” as she pulled back the string, an arrow imbued with concentrated life force.
In Verafia’s delicate jade hands, the un-melted ice on Mistetinn’s Staff refracted a cold gleam. Her golden eyes gazed at the frost-blue heart opposite her, as if the very concepts of time and space were suddenly frozen with its rhythmic beat.
She lowered her eyelids and shook her head. “No… it’s meaningless.”
Her words made Count Robert, Irene, and others look at her in surprise. Even Shiel, who had heard similar words from the girl before, wore a puzzled expression.
Taise, who had been silent until now, raised her head. Outside the shattered high tower, the cold moonlight cast a pallor on her face, but a frost-like color was reflected in her beautiful silver hair.
Her expression was no longer calm. The blood drained from her beautiful face, and a deep terror flashed across its sudden pallor. “Miss Verafia, you mean–”
“Yes. The envoy of the Frost Calamity…”
As the girl’s soft and delicate lips moved, her light and pleasant voice, amidst the falling frost, imparted an immense heaviness, as if falling into an ice cellar.
Even the most naturally air-headed Ophi understood the girl’s meaning. The ice dragon girl gripped the shaft of her spear tightly, her soft voice saying hurriedly, “But if we defeat him before he devours that heart–”
“Or perhaps, the true ‘envoy’ is that heart. And it has already awakened after Kaino placed it in his chest.”
As the girl spoke softly, Trist, who had struggled to stand, suddenly half-knelt before Kaino’s mangled remains, his eyes completely consumed by intense greed and fervor.
Fragments of the Star God, like pitch-black lightning, coursed through his damaged body, but did not impede any of his movements. With his remaining left hand, he conjured demonic power into a sharp short sword and thrust it down, easily tearing through the flesh and blood of the body encased in frost.
Blood splattered out. Trist grabbed the frost-covered heart with both hands, ignoring Kaino’s death, and forcefully yanked it out, along with the nascent flesh and blood!
“Bang, bang.”
Drops of blood slid down the heart’s smooth surface. All sound in the space seemed to freeze, leaving only the terrifying sound of spreading frost, chilling to the bone.
“Igart, Little Fei!”
Verafia crushed the remaining divine blood fragments in her hand, and a brilliant golden flame erupted to block the spreading frost. She then turned her head to look at the pale noble girl supporting her, “Shiel, you all need to leave quickly.”
Amidst the suddenly howling blizzard, Trist’s roaring laughter echoed like thunder. Suddenly, at his feet, Kaino’s corpse, from which the heart had been ripped out, twitched. The barely raised face opened its eyes again.
Only a bloodless pallor remained on the youth’s ravaged face. Having had his heart removed, he should have died completely. The fragments of law remaining in his body were merely maintaining his continuously draining life for a brief period.
However, as the Frost Calamity’s heart was snatched by Trist, Kaino’s eyes, previously eroded and filled with bestial madness, gradually regained clarity, and surprisingly, the rationality of a human reappeared.
His lips moved slightly, revealing a bitter and mocking smile. “As expected… as expected, it was you. You killed me. I thought you would truly let me become His incarnation, His envoy…”
“Heh. And why would you think this seat would give such an opportunity to you?”
Trist said coldly, a sneer on his face, holding the frost-covered heart in one hand.
He looked down at Kaino, who was like a piece of minced meat beneath his feet, knowing in his heart that it was only the residual laws of frost that allowed the youth to utter a few words.
However, with every passing moment, the pain he endured was far greater than death.
Such a stark contrast stirred an exhilarating and triumphant emotion within Trist, which showed on his face.
“I thought, by your side, master…”
“For the great cause of the Ice God, I could abandon even Azer, what are you to me?”
Completely unlike his former restrained demeanor, Trist sneered contemptuously and mockingly. At this moment, what did he have to fear, what did he need to hide?
Even that existence behind Kaino, the one he feared – but now, he was about to become the incarnation of a god, the envoy of a god!
Amidst his wild laughter, Trist placed the heart heavily into his chest with his left hand.
As if the laws of the Frost Calamity were awakening, the condensed frost laws surged like a mighty tide. All traces of elements and laws were undoubtedly frozen and then fiercely bombarded the solidified golden flame curtain.
Trist watched with an indifferent gaze.
His body, heavily wounded by Verafia’s long sword, even the severed arm, healed rapidly under the power of the ice. He could clearly feel his power increasing. His cultivation, long stagnant at the Star realm, was easily broken through, reaching the Sacred Domain!
Now, he would act as the envoy of God, the incarnation of God. Even if that girl was exceptionally special, even if she were a true god, what could she be without power?
Trist was about to take a step forward, to exercise his divine authority for his god. However, he was blocked by a body.
It seemed that due to the spreading frost laws, Kaino had not completely died.
Trist looked down at him with divine indifference, waiting for his final words.
“Heh… Master, your intentions, do you really think they can be hidden? Do you think this heart, after being carried by me, can be devoured by you?”
The youth’s struggling face wore a mad smile. He paid no heed to the sharp frost blades cutting at his already dead flesh, laughing wildly:
“To become the incarnation of a god, the envoy of a god… Master, do you really think this person will be you?”
