Chapter 12: My Selena, Why?!
Luo Xiu woke up very early today.
He stood by the window in the study, gazing at the bustling street outside.
The buildings on both sides of the street had a unified style, typical of Western fantasy medieval architecture.
The reply to the Holy See had already been sent by messenger, and now all that was left was to wait quietly.
Although he had appeared relaxed when speaking with Selena last night, he was actually quite uncertain.
As Luo Xiu thought, he suddenly focused his attention.
He extended his hand, his fingers long and slender, fair-skinned, with distinct joints.
At the tip of his index finger, with a slight movement of Luo Xiu’s mind, an arc of electricity flickered into existence.
The arc danced playfully at his fingertip, giving Luo Xiu a sense of security.
This time, he was no longer a helpless mortal but a powerful mage who could control thunder.
In the Maya Empire, all professions were inferior, only magic was supreme.
The status of mages crushed everything else.
A high-level mage was a ruthless war machine.
Although their physical bodies were weak, they possessed spells and forbidden arts capable of destroying the world, allowing them to rise above all else.
Even the Holy See was no exception.
Every high-ranking divine officer of the Holy See would inevitably be a high-level mage.
“One must be strong themselves…”
Luo Xiu idly thought of the girl from his previous life who had gone to cultivate immortality, feeling a sense of curiosity.
He wondered which was superior, cultivation or magic?
His curiosity, of course, could not be answered now.
Pushing his thoughts aside for the moment, Luo Xiu walked out of the study.
He made his way to the dining room and pushed the door open.
Seated at the table were two lively girls.
Their faces were exquisite and cute, their skin smooth and radiant, shimmering under the sunlight.
They had changed out of their maid outfits from last night and were now wearing gorgeous dresses of different colors.
Selena was in an elegant and noble purple dress, embroidered with ancient and classic patterns along the hem. Two rose-purple ribbons hung by her side, her slender limbs graceful, her chest just beginning to fill out.
As soon as she saw Luo Xiu enter, she quickly turned her head, her eyes blinking at him, her lips involuntarily curving upwards.
Unlike Selena’s intimacy, Eileen, beside her, appeared much more aloof.
She had chosen a dress as black as ink and sat upright in her chair with a cool expression.
Even upon seeing someone enter, Eileen merely glanced over and quickly averted her gaze.
“Miss Selena, good morning.”
Luo Xiu, with a smile, walked forward and spoke first.
He glanced at Eileen, whose small face was tense, and without minding her rudeness, he greeted her warmly as well, “Miss Eileen, good morning.”
Selena clasped her hands on her lap. Although they had only been apart for one night, her eyes held an undeniable longing.
“Lord Luo Xiu.”
She replied softly.
At the same time, her hands, hidden beneath the table, silently reached out and clasped her friend’s arm.
Eileen, of course, knew her meaning: to have her greet this pervert.
However, perhaps it was because she had finally enjoyed a good night’s sleep, even the man’s originally detestable face now seemed inexplicably pleasing to Eileen’s eyes.
So, she straightened her posture, thinking she might as well give a perfunctory reply.
But the next moment, she saw that the man in front of her had already turned away.
This was because Luo Xiu had no intention of receiving a response from Eileen.
Seeing this, Eileen’s expression froze, and she almost lost control of her features.
She quickly took a deep breath, adjusted her mindset, and cautioned herself to remain calm and not act impulsively.
*Hoo~*
Calm, calm.
Don’t be impulsive, don’t be impulsive.
It had to be said, if Eileen had never seen the light, she could have endured the darkness, the damp and cold, the dirty and foul-smelling sewers.
But last night’s soft and fragrant big bed had been too wonderful, making Eileen reluctant to give up her current life.
Even though she knew the man had ulterior motives, her firm resolve wavered slightly.
Perhaps letting this pervert take advantage of her a little wouldn’t be so bad?
Thinking this, Eileen quickly shook her head, purging the outrageous thought from her mind.
“Eileen, Eileen, how can you fall so easily? Your dear Selena is still waiting for you to save her!”
Unaware of the girl’s conflicted thoughts, Luo Xiu walked to the other side of the dining table and sat down opposite them.
He looked at Selena and smiled, “How did you sleep last night? Were you satisfied?”
“If you have any needs, feel free to tell me. If you can’t find me, finding Anna will do just fine.”
Selena looked a little flattered, “Lord Luo Xiu, you have already been very, very good to us. I don’t even know how to repay you…”
Luo Xiu patiently listened to her finish, then casually cut a small, exquisite piece of bread from his plate and offered it to her with a fork, placing it on her plate.
“Do you see me as someone who repays kindness with favors, Selena?”
His tone was feigned annoyance, clearly just a joke.
But Selena immediately stood up anxiously, shaking her little head like a rattle, “Lord Luo Xiu, please don’t say that about yourself. I’ve never thought that.”
Seeing her extreme reaction, Luo Xiu was taken aback.
He chuckled, “Sit, sit. Of course, I know you wouldn’t think that. No need to get so excited.”
He pointed to the piece of bread on her plate, “Try it? This was personally baked by Anna.”
The girl sat down obediently. She picked up the bread and put it in her mouth. The texture was soft and dense, with a slight toasted aroma.
Her eyes instantly curved, like tender shoots in early spring.
“Miss Anna is so amazing! I didn’t expect her culinary skills to be so good.”
Selena admired her sincerely.
Luo Xiu smiled and casually said, “There’s nothing much to do in the manor anyway. If you’re feeling bored, you can ask her to teach you if you’re interested.”
“Really?”
Selena clasped her hands together, her eyes shining brightly.
They chatted lightly, back and forth.
Even with a block of ice sitting beside them, the atmosphere at the dining table remained harmonious.
Eileen watched, her heart aching.
Pain, so much pain!
My Selena, why is this happening?!
It was as if something that had once belonged solely to her was now being forcibly divided.
Oh no, Eileen thought, looking at Selena’s eager expression, as if she wanted to throw herself into his arms, it was likely she was giving him everything…
Of course, she wouldn’t blame Selena.
Selena was such a kind and gentle person, how could she be wrong?
It must be that pervert, secretly giving my Selena a love potion!
It seems the plan to save Selena cannot be delayed!
As Eileen was thinking this with fierce determination, she suddenly saw a slice of white, soft bread being offered to her.
She looked up and met the man’s clear black and white eyes.
He asked, “What’s wrong? You don’t like this?”
Eileen couldn’t help but be stunned.
…
…
In the afternoon, the manor welcomed new guests.
Or rather, an uninvited guest.
He did not come alone but brought an entire troop of well-trained soldiers.
The army was solemn, their movements uniform and orderly, clearly not to be trifled with.
When Anna informed him, Luo Xiu was quite surprised.
He hadn’t expected to be confronted at his doorstep after only one day.
Fortunately, the visitors were not from the Holy See, but from the royal family of the Maya Empire.
The leader was His Highness Prince Lance, the current favorite of the Emperor.
At this moment, he stood at the manor’s entrance, frowning tightly, a flicker of impatience crossing his face.
