Chapter 296: It’s Obvious She’s Touching You
It was… a Dragon?
The man with half a face trembled, and like those demonic beasts, he prostrated himself on the ground.
A true dragon possessed supreme pressure.
Mythical beings walked into reality.
The young man stood silently, looking up at the sky, gazing at that supreme and noble silver dragon.
With the precedent set by those few, he wasn’t overly surprised.
He merely sighed softly.
“You’ve grown so big…”
This was their first encounter on Blue Star.
Their true first meeting, however, might be traced back to an unremarkable night.
…
…
“Li’er, quickly call him Prime Minister Father!”
“I won’t!”
The girl, with two small cloth bags wrapped around her head, raised her small, tender fist, her expression full of pride.
Although she was still young, her demeanor of looking down upon all beings was already fully developed.
She then shot a glance at the old Dragon King, who was slumped on his sickbed, and said coldly, “I think Father King, you’ve truly gone senile. This frail human, and you want me to bow to him as Prime Minister Father?”
“Our Dragon clan has always been the leader of all races since ancient times. How can we stoop to such a lowly position?”
“Ridiculous!”
With those last two words, the girl lingered no longer, turning and walking out of the sleeping quarters.
Behind her, the old Dragon King looked embarrassed. He attempted to reach out and stop her, but then sadly lowered his hand.
Perhaps, as Li’er said, he was truly old.
He was no longer the spirited young emperor who commanded all races. To place the last hope of the Dragon clan on a small human.
But he had no other choice.
Three thousand years of ancestral teachings, three thousand years of kowtowing, only to obtain this sliver of opportunity. No matter how slim it was, he had to grasp it firmly first…
He sighed silently and then said softly to the man standing quietly by the bed, “Mister, Li’er’s life… is entrusted to you.”
“This child has been strong-willed since childhood, always wanting to be first in everything. If our clan were still as cohesive and powerful as it was five hundred years ago, it would be fine. But now, with strong enemies surrounding us and treacherous people coveting us from within…”
“…”
“…”
That night, the old Dragon King spoke a great deal.
That night, someone stood by, quietly listening.
…
…
Swish—
First came the crisp sound of rain falling on the carriage, followed by a thunderclap that shook the heavens and earth.
The night was thick, and through the misty rain, a carriage’s outline was faintly visible.
Chen An slowly woke from his deep sleep. The first sensation, besides the jolting of the carriage rushing on its journey, was that someone was secretly touching him.
It was a small hand, a little cold, moving all over his body as if searching for something.
He paused slightly, not rushing to open his eyes.
“What is she doing?”
In his consciousness, Chen An asked the system.
“It’s obvious, she’s touching you,” the system replied seriously.
Chen An frowned and persuaded gently.
“Don’t get upset. We’re doing important business.”
Unexpectedly, perhaps spurred by his words, her tone suddenly rose a few degrees.
“Who’s upset with you? I’m not upset. How could I be upset? How dare I be upset!”
Their conversation was soon interrupted by the little hand that continued to explore downwards.
Chen An was forced to open his eyes.
Because if he didn’t open his eyes soon, that little hand might delve into some inappropriate areas.
A girl in a moon-white palace dress came into his view.
Her head was lowered, her small hand inside his clothes, meticulously feeling around.
As she touched, she muttered softly, “Where is it?” “It shouldn’t be here!”
Then, perhaps sensing something, her probing paused. She slowly raised her head.
Her amber vertical pupils met the man’s continuously calm gaze.
The scene seemed to freeze at that moment.
After a short while, she coughed lightly, forcing a sweet smile.
“Ah, Prime Minister Father, why are you awake?”
Casually, she withdrew her hand from inside his clothes and then obediently began to massage him.
She kneaded his legs and patted his back, showing no trace of the disdainful look from their first meeting.
Seeing that the man remained silent.
She could only feign sincerity and explain, “Prime Minister Father, you know, Li’er is the most well-behaved. I just saw you traveling hard and thought I’d help you with a shoulder rub or a leg massage while you were asleep…”
As for why massaging his legs and shoulders required reaching inside his clothes, Long Li didn’t elaborate.
Because she couldn’t possibly come up with any more lies.
Fortunately, the man didn’t seem to hold any grudges. He merely nodded and then reached out to lift the carriage curtain.
Outside, silver threads of rain fell like snow, chaotic and chilling.
Chen An watched the scene outside for a moment and asked, “Where are we?”
Inside the carriage, the girl shook her head, indicating she didn’t know.
However, Chen An hadn’t expected her to know.
From outside the carriage, a cold female voice stated, “One more day, and we’ll reach the Red Bear Clan’s territory.”
Hearing this, Chen An’s mind conjured the map he had seen earlier in the sleeping quarters.
He remembered that after passing the Red Bear Clan, traveling north for at most half a month would lead them to Dragon City.
Which was where they were heading.
There, Long Li, as the old Dragon King’s only bloodline successor, would inherit his throne and become the new Dragon Lord ruling the world.
A month ago, the old Dragon King had passed away in his palace. Before his death, he had left a will, appointing Chen An as the National Teacher to act on his behalf and govern. His daughter, Long Li, would inherit the throne. Prior to the young empress reaching three hundred years old, all matters were to be guided by the National Teacher, and all races were to abide by this.
This will, due to its hasty nature, was not very formal.
However, its meaning was clearly conveyed.
It was essentially the same as what he had promised Chen An the night before he died.
The Dragon clan had always had long lifespans, far exceeding those of the human races on the other side of the continent. Therefore, here, Long Li would not officially come of age until she was three hundred years old.
What was unexpected, or perhaps entirely predictable, was that after the old Dragon King had used his last bit of strength to announce this to the world.
The entire nation was shaken.
The old Dragon King’s health had been in decline since the great war with the human race a hundred years ago. His death, in fact, was within the expectations of many.
Appointing his daughter, Long Li, to inherit the throne was not something groundbreaking or unheard of.
After all, the Dragon clan, as the leader of all races, had had empresses before.
Although there was a strong and capable elder brother above Long Li.
But compared to appointing a human as National Teacher, this was an unprecedented event in the entire history of the Demon Country.
What were humans?
They had always been the lowest race in the Demon Country’s social hierarchy.
In the minds of the demons, humans were base, cunning, and physically weak. In this nation that valued personal strength and physical power, they were naturally unpopular.
