Side: Mako
After parting ways with Yamato and the others, we remained at Krater’s Healer’s Guild and got to work healing the injured in a hurry.
There are ten healers including myself, but only three of us are High Healers: Carol, Sliza the High Fairy, and myself, who is also an Ancient Healer. The other seven, including Sir Yuri, will be assisting us.
I can leave it to them if the injured are Normal Class, but when it comes to High Class treatment, my magic power runs out quickly, so there’s nothing I can do about it.
“There are a total of 43 injured people, and 26 of them have lost limbs. The damage is severe.”
“Completely. And it seems that four of them had their severed limbs eaten by a Slume Lord, so they can’t be found anywhere.”
Sliza and I could only let out a big sigh.
Limb loss can only be healed with the healing magic Extra Healing, but you can’t use it unless you’re promoted to A-Rank Healer.
Both Sliza and I are P-rank Healers, so that’s two ranks above us.
Noble Healing, which can be used upon G-rank promotion, can reattach severed limbs no matter how mangled they are, as long as they are present. Unfortunately, the limbs of the four people were nowhere to be found.
It’s said that 180 years ago, Eliel’s right arm and left leg were eaten. At that time, the Healer’s Guild didn’t exist, so Extra Healing was considered the highest form of healing magic, and there were quite a few people who could use it.
However, when the Healer’s Guild was established, magic like Extra Healing was classified as healing magic, and the only way to use it was to raise your Healer rank.
This seems to have been an oversight on Sayuri’s part as well, and she’s still very troubled by it. I really don’t know what to do.
“Anyway, we can’t do anything about what we don’t have. Only the Order’s Master can use Extra Healing, so we have to leave it to them.”
“Is that the only way? Then I’ll go treat them over there.”
“Please.”
Even with severe limb loss, if the limb remains, it can be reattached.
Of course, some rehabilitation will be necessary, but unlike on Earth, it can be moved with the exact same sensation as before the amputation, so I truly think magic is amazing.
On Earth, cases where nerves don’t connect properly, or fingers can’t bend, are quite common, though not entirely normal.
“Carol, how are things on your end?”
“It’s okay, they’ve been reattached successfully.”
Carol, a High Elf and Sir Yuri’s fellow G-rank Healer, who is also Raus’s fiancée, is also treating patients at the Healer’s Guild.
Although there are sights that a 15-year-old girl shouldn’t have to witness, Carol and Sir Yuri are performing healing magic and treating patients thoroughly without any aversion.
It makes me feel a bit complex, really, thinking how tough and reliable they are.
“Noble Healing… Is that about it? Blood Healing. That should do it. What’s next? Whoa, what is this severed limb!?”
“I understand your surprise, but it can be attached properly, and we can even regenerate missing fingers.”
“Really?”
“That’s the amazing thing about Noble Healing.”
Rana, a female Orc Healer from Gracious Lynx, supplemented me when I was surprised by the severed limb with all its fingers missing.
So, even if the severed limb is mangled, it’s okay in this condition.
Come to think of it, I think there was a problem like this on the G-rank promotion exam.
Sayuri, who was a medical student, also creates anatomical dissection diagrams, so the people of Helios Orb have a good understanding of how organs function, and the existence of the brain and nerves.
Of course, the level of understanding varies from person to person, but anyone can know, even if only basically, about the functions of the brain and internal organs.
Well, it’s an exaggeration to say everyone, as it’s difficult to teach that much in countries without a Healer’s Guild.
That’s why the Healer’s Guild rank promotion exams all assume an understanding of human anatomy.
As a former medical student, I have no problem with that, but I only started using magic after coming to Helios Orb, so I studied their effects and usage thoroughly before taking the exams.
After being promoted to P-rank and gaining the ability to use Area Healing, I decided to take a break from the exams, but I never imagined it would backfire like this.
“You’re amazing, Ancient Healer. You can really restore even such a mangled arm.”
“No, it was Rana who said it was possible.”
“That’s true, but I’m an Orc, so my magic power is low. I don’t know if I can even heal one patient, even if they’re Normal Class.”
Ah, it’s the issue of racial magic power.
While magic power varies individually, there’s also a significant difference between races.
Dragonians have the most, followed by Fairies.
Humans are also on the lower side, but Orcs are said to have the least magic power among all races. Even Rana, who has a higher magic power for an Orc, only has about the same level as humans.
Healing and recovery magic also depend on the user’s magic power for the depth of recovery. If the cut surface is mangled and parts are missing, races with low magic power might not be able to fully heal it in one spell.
If they could evolve into High Orcs, they would have even more magic power than Dragonians.
“Why don’t you try aiming to become a High Healer?”
“No, no. I’m not good at fighting, so it’s hard for me to even level up, let alone evolve.”
Although Orcs are said to have the lowest magic power among all races, they are said to have the highest physical strength.
That’s why many Orcs become Hunters, Orders, or Sabers. But Rana, unlike most Orcs with their impressive physique, is small and shorter than me.
My height is 165 cm, and Rana’s is 160 cm.
The average height for Orcs, even females, is around 180 cm, so you can see how small Rana is!
As a result, Rana’s physical strength is inferior to that of a typical Orc, and instead, she has more magic power—essentially going against the very traits of an Orc.
“But one of the General Order’s wives is also a small Orc like Rana, and she evolved into High Class.”
“What? Really?”
“Yes. Alright, that’s all. Next?”
While talking to Rana, I continued to finish treating patients one after another.
The small Orc I mentioned is Rosemary, the wife of Rex, who serves as the General Order of the Torencia Dispatch Force, and who serves as the Secondary Order.
Rosemary might be shorter than Rana, but she’s also a Level 54 P-rank Order.
I heard she used to be the sub-Order’s Master of Feel, but she retired from that position to marry Rex.
Frankly, Rosemary was short and only had average Orc magic power. I heard she worked incredibly hard, to the point of tears, until she evolved into High Class.
“Mako, can I have a word?”
“What is it?”
“Yes. I’ve mostly finished treating here, so could you help with the patients over there?”
“Over there? Are there still more injured?”
Sliza assigned me more patients, but as a High Fairy, she shouldn’t have run out of magic power or anything.
“Yes. You’ll know when you go. It seems to be a bit much for me to handle alone.”
Even though she’s an experienced High Healer and High Hunter, I don’t think that’s the case.
However, the moment I saw the patient, I understood what Sliza meant.
“Certina?”
“Mako, is that you? I apologize for showing such a pathetic sight.”
Lying on the bed in front of me was Certina Sertral, a Level 66 P-rank Hunter and one of Torencia’s strongest assets.
Certina’s right arm was gone from the elbow down, and unlike when I last saw her, she seemed to have lost her vitality.
“By any chance, Certina, did you encounter a Slume Lord too?”
“Ah. I couldn’t do anything. Thanks to Klal, I survived…”
Klal is Certina’s familiar, a P-R rank Friezas Tiger.
Klal is a little larger than a normal tiger, so he can’t fit into the Healer’s Guild.
So he usually stays at Certina’s mansion… Wait, no!
“Sliza, I’m going to examine Klal!”
“Yes, please. Klal is said to be behind the Healer’s Guild.”
“Understood!”
The Slume Lord is said to be the final evolution of the Icicle Tiger, and the Friezas Tiger is also a rare species of the Icicle Tiger.
Therefore, it’s safe to say that the Slume Lord and Klal are almost the same species.
However, the Slume Lord has overwhelmingly higher stats and magic power, so even though Klal is the pinnacle among familiars, he’s no match for it.
But it seems Klal came out to save Certina, and he’s behind the Healer’s Guild, so Klal must be injured as well.
Healing and recovery magic are effective on monsters as well.
However, it consumes more magic power than when used on humans, and in situations like this, humans are usually prioritized over familiars and summoned beasts.
Klal is probably in the same predicament. He’s probably been given potions, but not properly treated.
So I hurried around to the back of the Healer’s Guild.
“Klal!”
Klal reacted to my voice, raised his head slightly, and immediately closed his eyes.
Since Klal was introduced when I met Certina, I assume Klal knows me, and familiars don’t attack humans without reason, so it’s not a problem for me to approach him carelessly.
“This…!”
As I approached Klal, I could see that his left foreleg was missing even without using Examine.
Friezas Tigers are white tigers with black stripes, but Klal’s entire body is stained scarlet, and his once beautiful white coat is unrecognizable.
Upon hastily using Examine, I saw that while he wasn’t suffering fatal injuries, he was still seriously wounded.
Healing magic is effective on monsters, but Extra Healing has little effect, and missing parts won’t regenerate.
Reviving can apparently heal it, but only O-rank Healers can use Reviving, and only Sayuri can use it in Helios Orb.
Sayuri would probably use it, but I can’t call her at a time like this, and even for a High Healer, it’s hard to gauge how much magic power it consumes, so I hesitate.
So that’s why Certina’s face had no life in it.
I used Noble Healing on Klal, healing his wounds including the missing part, and made sure to wash away the ingrained blood with the body washing magic, Washing.
Although I was a medical student, I didn’t study veterinary medicine.
However, healing magic can heal wounds regardless of whether they are human or monster, so injuries should be fine.
Illnesses are a different story.
“This should do it. Thank you, Klal. For helping Certina.”
Even when I spoke to Klal, he didn’t lift his head or open his eyes.
But he wagged his tail slightly, so he should be okay now.
And while I’m at it, I’ll use Area Healing on the other familiars left behind at the Healer’s Guild.
Some of them had already passed away, but familiars and summoned beasts are important partners, so I wanted to do as much as I could. As an Ancient Healer, I can do it, so I felt I should.
Healing magic for monsters clearly consumes a lot of magic power, even for High Healers, so I could tell I had used a lot.
It decreased quite a bit, but it’s within an acceptable range.
“Alright. Klal, Certina is safe, so please wait a little longer.”
After using Area Healing about twice, I spoke to Klal and decided to return to Certina.
I later heard that Klal was indeed intimidated by the Slume Lord.
However, he shielded Certina from a direct claw strike and lost his left foreleg as a consequence.
The Slume Lord seemed uninterested in Klal, so I believe that’s why Certina and Klal survived.
The people brought to the Healer’s Guild, including Certina, were able to recover enough to move, but they will still need to rest for a while.
We left the rest to the Order’s Master and headed towards the Saber’s Guild office.
