**Side: Mana**
As evening approached, Yamato and the others returned from the Gagun Great Forest. It seemed they had successfully defeated the monsters guarding the Treasure Tree, including Hanuman. However, there were complications. Yamato was forced to kneel and receive a scolding from Mako.
“Mako, isn’t that enough…” Lydia pleaded.
“Yeah. We’re not that angry,” Athena added.
“No. Your safety was purely a matter of luck. Things could have turned irrecoverably bad. A lecture or two is the least you deserve.”
Despite Lydia and Athena’s pleas for leniency, Mako was resolute. According to her, once the number of monsters was reduced to a manageable level, Wing Crest had moved to engage Hanuman and its surrounding monsters. The plan was for Yamato to hold Hanuman while the rest dealt with the An and Catastrophe Species, then focus on Hanuman. However, in his haste to gain power, Yamato acted rashly, directly confronting Hanuman and sustaining a severe injury that cost him his left hand.
Panicked, everyone rushed to his aid. The Catastrophe Species seized this opportunity, heavily wounding Lydia and Athena. Fortunately, Mako’s Engraving Technique, Meteorite Light Sphere, intervened just in time, preventing further pursuit. Had it not been for that, the two might have lost their lives. Yamato then succeeded in fusing his Engraving Tool, and they were able to defeat Hanuman. It was indeed a situation that would make anyone angry. Yamato had faced a similar reprimand from Mako for similar reasons before the Slume Lord’s subjugation.
Prim was also reprimanded for the same incident. She sat with a solemn expression, listening to Mako’s lecture, though not in the same kneeling posture as Yamato.
“Mako, let’s leave it at that,” Faris said, unable to watch any longer.
“While it’s true that was a result of luck, and your Engraving Technique was instrumental, let’s celebrate Hanuman’s successful defeat for now,” El added.
“You’re right… well, yes. Yamato, we’ll talk about this later.” Mako’s expression suggested she still had more to say, but indeed, Hanuman had been defeated, and most of the Labyrinth-related species that had flooded the Gagun Great Forest were likely eliminated. It was appropriate to celebrate the outcome. Changes in the Gagun Great Forest’s ecosystem were certain, and with the Labyrinth’s involvement, careful observation would be necessary going forward. This would fall under the purview of the Beastars.
The Beastar’s Guild would have its hands full. However, the High Class Beastars who participated in this Alliance had significantly leveled up. Several, including leader Minalis, were nearing level 60. If they could evolve into Ancient Class, things might become a little easier. Or perhaps, if they became Ancient Beastars, they might be pushed towards becoming Grand Beastar’s Masters, which could be even more challenging.
“Mana, have you heard anything about what’s happening with Laofen?” Mako, perhaps changing the subject or her mood, shifted the topic to the Laofen Labyrinth.
“I’ve been keeping an ear out, but the Black Army hasn’t returned yet. Still, the monsters aren’t overflowing, so I believe the攻略 is proceeding smoothly.”
“So, the Alliance is still waiting outside the Labyrinth?”
“That’s what I heard, though that was from earlier this afternoon, so the situation might have changed.”
It was already late afternoon. Lucas and Lyra should be returning with new information soon.
“Waiting for Lucas and Lyra, huh. I guess it can’t be helped, but it’s frustrating.” Rudia’s feelings were understandable, but there was nothing to be done about it. Since they were waiting for reports, let’s move on to other matters.
“Hmm? What is it?”
“What do you mean, ‘what is it’? You evolved into an Element Human, didn’t you?”
Indeed, Yamato had finally broken through the level 100 barrier with the Helios Orb and evolved into the Element Class. Element Class was a term I hadn’t heard before, and I never imagined there was a class above Ancient Class, but seeing him before me, I had no choice but to believe it.
“Ah, that. I did evolve, but I don’t feel like anything’s significantly changed.”
“Changed? What about those wings on your back?”
Even as Yamato said that, he had magnificent wings on his back that could only be described as belonging to the Winged Tribe. To us, it was a monumental change.
“It feels like I’m constantly enveloped in Wing Burst, but the sensation of my wings has become much more vivid. I can move them more easily than I expected.”
With that, Yamato flapped the wings on his back. Of course, he didn’t spread them indoors, but he could move one side independently, indicating he could control them exactly as he wished.
“They move quite freely. Prim, how do they look from a Winged Tribe perspective?”
While there were Ancient Hunters and High Class Beastars present, Prim was the only member of the Winged Tribe. Therefore, she was the only one who could truly judge if Yamato had become one of them.
“I thought so earlier, but they really are no different from the wings of the Winged Tribe. Wing Burst is originally a Unique Magic that uses the magic power of the Ancient Class to mimic the wings of the Winged Tribe for self-enhancement. By evolving into the Element Class, Yamato is essentially in a state of constantly being enveloped by Wing Burst.”
So, it’s like a constant deployment of Wing Burst. Normally, the magic power used for Wing Burst also serves for enhancement. Thus, it’s a form of amplification magic, and there’s no conscious effort to channel surplus energy. However, in the Element Class, it seems to be entirely surplus magic power.
“Also, I only learned about it after the Statering was presented, but the Winged Tribe can also make their wings disappear, right?”
“Yes. They always make them disappear when they sleep, as they get in the way.”
Not just the Winged Tribe; Dragon and Yokai Races also make their wings disappear or alter their lower bodies for practical reasons. It’s widely known that they use Heavenly Art Magic for this transformation.
“Actually, the Winged Tribe also uses that Human Transformation Magic to make their wings disappear. Statering had Human Transformation Magic, and I confirmed it when I tried it.”
The fact that the Winged Tribe could use Human Transformation Magic was a complete surprise to me. However, it was true that Lydia, Ludia, Fiana, and Reina used Human Transformation Magic to conceal the wings on their backs and arms, while Athena and Eos manifested wings by using Dragon Transformation Magic. The wings of the Winged Tribe are said to be formed from surplus magic power due to their naturally high magic reserves. Considering they can also be made to disappear, it’s not entirely illogical for the Winged Tribe to be able to use Human Transformation Magic.
“Does that mean Yamato-san can also use Human Transformation Magic?”
“Likely. And while I’m used to it, Yamato isn’t, so it would interfere with his daily life. So, I believe he can use it.”
“What about it, Yamato-san?”
“W-wait a minute.”
All eyes turned to Yamato, who quickly checked his Statering. Humans and Elves, among other races, wouldn’t understand the concept of Human Transformation Magic, so Yamato probably never even considered it. I can relate, as I wouldn’t have either.
“Ah, it’s here. And Fusion Magic has been added too.”
It seems he has learned it. But if Fusion Magic has also been added, it means he has also been granted Heavenly Art Magic. Human Transformation Magic is a Heavenly Art Magic, but it’s treated as an exception for Dragon and Yokai Races, as it’s essential for their daily lives. I wonder if Yamato, having evolved into the Element Class, was also granted Human Transformation Magic as an exception?
“You were granted Fusion Magic too. Well, if you evolve and are granted new Heavenly Art Magic, it’s not really surprising.”
“Indeed. While Faris is a Fairy, for someone like me, a Harpy, I wouldn’t be able to live without Human Transformation Magic. So, it’s natural that Yamato-kun was granted Human Transformation Magic and Fusion Magic.”
Faris and El also believed receiving Human Transformation Magic was natural, and speculated that he was newly granted Fusion Magic upon evolving. This implies he also acquired some kind of attribute.
“Yamato-san, what about attributes?”
Lydia, also curious, was the first to ask Yamato if he had acquired any attributes.
“Ah, that. I was granted Earth attribute magic.”
“Earth attribute magic? That’s an unexpected attribute. Or perhaps not.”
“Yes. I was never good with Fire attribute magic, and for the same reason, I rarely use Lightning attribute magic. As for Dark attribute magic, I simply have no aptitude for it.”
Come to think of it, Yamato rarely uses Fire or Lightning attribute magic, and never Dark attribute magic. It’s not that he *never* uses them, but the frequency compared to Water, Ice, or Wind is extremely low. This isn’t unusual; it’s normal for magic of attributes one is poor at or has no aptitude for to be used infrequently. That’s precisely why he struggled to learn Traveling, which requires the ability to use all attributes evenly.
“Is the attribute magic granted also random, like Heavenly Art Magic?”
“Something like that.”
It feels like if one could choose attribute magic or Heavenly Art Magic, there would be extreme imbalances.
“Yamato-kun, what about your equipment?”
“Equipment?” Holly of Falcon’s Beak asked, her face full of interest. Why equipment, though?
“Everyone seems to have forgotten, but why did Yamato-kun try the alloy in the first place?”
” ” “Ah!!” ”
We had completely forgotten. Yamato and Ed created the alloy because existing Magic Silver and Adamantine Steel couldn’t withstand the magic of High Class individuals. Fortunately, Jade Silver, Blue-Gray Iron, and Lapis Laz could withstand not only High Class but also Ancient Class magic power. However, Yamato’s evolution into the Element Class changed the situation. If the alloy couldn’t withstand the magic power of the Element Class, then Yamato’s problem from last year would resurface. Moreover, since Yamato was the only one who had reached Element Class, it would undoubtedly be an issue, though perhaps not as significant as before.
“I evolved after defeating Hanuman, so I can’t say for sure. However, at the moment, I don’t feel any stagnation of magic power or anything like that.”
If he evolved after the battle, it’s indeed hard to say. He says he’s fine for now, but confirmation is crucial for his life. Yamato will likely begin testing this in a few days.
“If it’s okay for now, then your equipment won’t become unusable immediately.”
“Yeah. When we evolved to High Class, we could immediately feel the magic power stagnating, flowing into our equipment. Considering that, even if the equipment breaks, it won’t happen suddenly, right?”
As Cliff of Holy Grave and Clark of Falcon’s Beak said, in the past, as soon as one evolved into High Class, they could feel the magic power flowing into their equipment becoming stagnant. Some people evolved during combat, like Clark and his wife Flora, who tragically died after their weapon broke due to this very reason.
“I’ll investigate it soon. Well, for now, I’m the only one, and I have my Engraving Tool, so even in the worst-case scenario, I’ll be fine.”
“That’s enviable.”
“Those things that looked like boards extending from your back, with swords growing out of them like wings – you can’t generate things like that!”
Now the conversation has shifted to the new Engraving Tool Yamato created. Yamato’s fusion of Multi Edge and Mirror Ring resulted in the Wing Bit Liberator, which was, if I recall correctly, a “Winged Sword-like Fused Decoration Type.”
“Fused types are, for those who can perform Dual Engraving, the true Engraving Tools. However, many people cannot fuse them.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I’m not entirely sure about the specifics, but I have heard similar stories.”
I remember Yamato’s father and mother, and even Mako, had mentioned that only a few people knew about it. The Wing Bit Liberator consists of a pair of rack-like structures, like branches extending from the back, from which six winged blades, called Wing Bits, hang. Yamato can generate as many Wing Bits as his magic power allows, not only for use as swords but also for use like Sphere-type magic. I heard that during his fight with Hanuman, he unleashed countless Ice Edge Javelins.
“There’s likely more to it, so that needs to be verified.”
Yamato says that, but the characteristics of Engraving Tools differ. Even Yamato and Mako don’t know all their potential traits or abilities. Since the Wing Bit Liberator is a fusion of Multi Edge and Mirror Ring, it inherits the characteristics of both, which is why it can generate countless Wing Bits. However, other aspects are unknown until tested. What is known is that he can project his consciousness onto the twelve Wing Bits, allowing him to control them freely. Creating them is not the congratulatory end, but rather the beginning. It seems being a generator is far more demanding than we imagine.
Speaking of which, didn’t Yamato say he would try something once he could generate the Wing Bit Liberator? Well, there’s no urgent need, and he likely needs to grasp the Wing Bit Liberator’s performance first, so perhaps I’ll ask him another time.
