Helios Orb Chronicle – Chapter 502

Side: Mako

Since Asuka and Maoh returned, I’ve been diligently practicing my hunting and honing my Agatholam and Engraving Magic. The three S-rank spell formulas that Maoh gave me aren’t easy for me to master, and more importantly, they can’t be used as they are. I need to improve them a bit. Yamato also received two from Asuka, but those spell formulas are compatible with him, so it’s frustrating that he can use them without any issues.

Today, I’m out hunting in Mylight with Meena, Lydia, and Ludia.

“Even so, aren’t you using them quite well?”
“That’s right,”

Lydia and Ludia say, but from my perspective, mastering them is far from true; I can barely even say my improvements are going well.

The three S-rank spell formulas I received from Maoh are Silverio Disaster, Silverio Cosmociation, and Silverio Defender. However, these three spell formulas use silver generated by Maoh’s Engraving Tool, so there’s no way I can use them as they are. Therefore, I’ve been trying to make them usable in a way similar to Maoh by using Earth attribute magic and Craft Magic. But understandably, since these are spell formulas that Maoh developed 30 years ago, it’s harder than creating new S-rank spell formulas.

“Silver, you say? Wouldn’t it be fine to store it in a storage and take it out when you need it?”
“I already tried that, but it was inefficient. It couldn’t even withstand my magic power.”

Mina’s suggestion was the first thing I tried, and it yielded the exact results I expected, so I quickly gave up. However, for some reason, wherever I used it, it had a decent level of accuracy. My Spirit Hexa Dipper is a pinwheel, so it can’t generate silver, but I wonder why that is? While pondering the reason, I activate Silverio Disaster and dye an Orc settlement with silver. The rain of silver, which utilizes even updrafts and downdrafts, easily stays within the area for a settlement of Orcs. Since target identification is incorporated, turning only the Orcs into silver statues is a simple matter.

“You defeated them with one hand.”
“Your mother’s Engraving Magic is amazing, but Mako, you mastering it is also amazing.”
“I told you, I’m not mastering it.”

Now that I think about it, attacking an Orc settlement, especially one without even an An, let alone a Catastrophe Species, must be child’s play for Lydia and Ludia.

“But, Mother, the silver she used, did it really feel like silver?”
“Yes. But is there something wrong?”
“Well, I’ve been curious about it for a while, but it somehow looked a little greenish.”
“Greenish?”

Ludia suddenly voiced her doubt, but at first, I didn’t understand what she meant. However, now that she mentioned it, the silver statues of Orcs I created indeed looked more like pale green silver than pure silver. I hadn’t noticed until she pointed it out, but the silver of the Helios Orb is also pure silver. Pale green silver would be Magic Silver, so does this mean I was using Magic Silver?

“Magic Silver? Ah, that’s why it’s a pinwheel.”

Meena also opened her mouth, as if she had understood something. Is there a connection between Magic Silver and a pinwheel?

“Near Gallia, there’s a Magic Silver deposit at the bottom of a river. I heard they use waterwheels to scoop up Magic Silver that has turned into sand from the riverbed and process it into ingots.”

This is the first I’m hearing of it, but there are Magic Silver deposits in such places. Moreover, the fact that even Magic Silver that has turned into sand can be used makes Craft Magic seem absurd. Or rather, wasn’t silver supposed to not turn into sand? Perhaps it’s because Magic Silver can, which is why I didn’t consider it.

“Does that mean that maybe my Spirit Hexa Dipper is scooping up Magic Silver sand and using it?”
“That’s likely how it works.”

So, instead of generating silver, it’s being scooped up and used. The Spirit Dipper is also ladle-shaped, so it can perform the act of scooping. Therefore, even without complete generation, I could use Maoh’s S-rank spell formulas without much modification. I don’t think Maoh knew this, but it’s usable in its own way. Does this mean that all the improvements I’ve tried so far were completely pointless? No, I certainly didn’t expect to be using Magic Silver, so if I adjust it accordingly, the efficiency should improve. But before that, I need to confirm if this is truly the case and try using it consciously this time.

“The next settlement… isn’t nearby.”
“Is your mother’s Engraving Magic the wide-area type? Since that’s all you have, it must be difficult to test.”
“It can’t be helped.”

The three S-rank spell formulas I received from Maoh are all wide-area annihilation-type spell formulas. Of course, they can be used even with a small number of targets, but they are difficult to use in terms of magic power efficiency and accuracy. Therefore, Orc settlements are the easiest to test, but unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any nearby. I’ll have to travel somewhere randomly and search the surrounding area.

“Finally, I found it. Usually, they’re found more easily, but it was incredibly troublesome to search for them.”
“I understand how you feel, but Mylight is vast, isn’t it? Isn’t that natural?”
“Well, I suppose. Then, let’s go.”

After traveling for the fifth time, I finally found an Orc settlement. Once I confirmed its presence, I immediately activated Silverio Disaster. I deliberately imagined generating the Spirit Hexa Dipper completely and scooping Magic Silver from the earth, and it felt much smoother than before. As evidence, the rain of silver was more abundant and intense than in the previous settlement. Also, even though the Magic Silver is raining down due to my magic power, it doesn’t show any signs of deterioration.

“It’s a lot easier to use now. As everyone said, if I focus on using the Magic Silver scooped by the pinwheel, the improvements needed will be minimal.”
“That’s good, but are improvements necessary?”
“Yes. Maoh’s S-rank spell formulas assume that silver is generated by one’s own magic tool. Therefore, I need to change them to use the Magic Silver that I scoop myself.”

I never expected that I could scoop it with the ladle of a pinwheel. However, I have no idea why I can scoop Magic Silver not only from the riverbed but also from the air, either theoretically or practically.

“I want to try the other two as well, so please bear with me a little longer?”
“Understood.”
“I’m also interested, so of course!”
“We’ve only seen them a few times ourselves, so we’d like to watch carefully too.”

Ah, indeed, Asuka and Maoh only used their S-rank spell formulas a handful of times. Moreover, since they were both Arc Humans, they could defeat even An using C-rank spell formulas, let alone S-rank ones, so there was no need for them to use them. In fact, the only times they used S-rank spell formulas were in places with monsters of Catastrophe Species or higher. Although I thought I would never see them again, since I inherited Maoh’s S-rank spell formulas and Yamato inherited Asuka’s, it can be said that it’s fortunate for everyone that we can continue to see them.

Following Silverio Disaster, I, using Traveling several more times, walked the mountainsides of Mylight to test both Silverio Cosmociation and Silverio Defender. Although there are fewer Orc settlements than before, I still find them after several transfers, so they must be numerous.

“Silverio Cosmociation is fine, but Silverio Defender has a bit of a quirk.”

All three S-rank spell formulas developed by Maoh are classified as non-elemental spell formulas, but Silverio Defender has strong defensive elements. In fact, it completely defended against Nidhogg’s breath, even its aftershocks, but this is also due to Maoh’s great skill. Silverio Defender, consisting of multiple giant shield-shaped barriers shining in silver, can be described as a phalanx. Even if a shield breaks from an attack, new shields are generated one after another. Furthermore, if extra shields are generated, it’s possible to attack and defend simultaneously. It’s similar to the Divine Emperor’s Thunder Cage Dome, but the intensity and accuracy are on a different level. It’s a compatible spell formula for me, but because it’s a spell formula that generates shields, its attack power is lower than the other two, or even lower than my own S-rank spell formulas.

“But, that can be supplemented by using it in conjunction with Blading and such, right?”
“It can be supplemented. Rather, the problem is that Accelerating Magic is essential.”

As Ludia says, the attack power can be supplemented by combining it with magic. Yamato’s Ice Edge Javelin and Gracious Bunker also combine magic and Engraving Magic, as does my Field Cosmos. The problem is that because of the sheer number of shields that can be generated, even with Accelerating Magic’s thought acceleration, the number of shields I can control is limited to around 20.

“However, both Yamato and Mako have been using them effectively in this past month.”

This past month, both Yamato and I have been diligently hunting and haven’t neglected our efforts to master the S-rank spell formulas we received. Therefore, Yamato has also become able to effectively use Mist Inflation and Mist Rebellion, which he inherited from Asuka. While he hasn’t achieved the same precision as Asuka yet, the fact that Asuka demonstrated its ability to defeat even Demise Species means that Yamato will eventually be able to do so as well. I also want to improve my own S-rank spell formulas, not just Maoh’s, and gain more power. Eventually, we will have to invade the Gradia Continent, so I’d like to be stronger by then if possible.

“I still can’t say I’ve mastered them, so I have to try a little harder.”
“It looks like you’re using them quite well.”
“As I said earlier, they’re not supposed to be like this originally. Thanks to Spirit Hexa Dipper, I’ve realized I can substitute with Magic Silver, but I still need to make some adjustments, and I need to grasp their characteristics thoroughly and understand what I can and cannot do.”

Although I know the general outline, including their functions, this is a different matter. I don’t think I’ll ever use Silverio Defender for attack, but I still need to grasp it thoroughly, otherwise, I’ll be in trouble when the time comes. After all, Silverio Disaster and Silverio Cosmociation are both spell formulas with excessively wide ranges, making them difficult to use against single targets.

“Since it’s an Engraving Magic on the scale of covering an entire settlement, it’s inconvenient in some situations.”
“That’s right.”

It’s getting late today, so I’ll stop here, but I have to keep working hard tomorrow and beyond. What’s truly fortunate is that the ladle of the Spirit Hexa Dipper can scoop up Magic Silver. I never thought it could do such a thing, so I thought these three spell formulas would require significant modifications. However, thanks to this, it’s no longer necessary, and when I return to Alka, I’ll need to make some adjustments to be able to handle Magic Silver properly. This, in itself, is becoming somewhat enjoyable.
