It was an afternoon with faint rain clouds spreading across the sky when Jared’s grandfather, Wahash, visited Olivier.
Although she had received a letter beforehand, Olivier couldn’t hide her nervousness at the visit of the head of the continent’s number one assassination organization, who had been targeting her and her mother’s lives for many years.
Even as her fiancé’s grandfather, Jared and Wahash had met for the first time with the intention to kill each other. Furthermore, he was one of the few opponents against whom Jared, who had saved Olivier and her allies from danger many times and defeated enemies, had been defeated without being able to fight back.
“I sincerely thank you for meeting with me despite this sudden visit, Olivier Alway.”
“No, you are Jared’s grandfather.”
The two faced each other across a table in the reception room.
Olivier wore a smile that was not forced, yet she was tense. Wahash, unlike when they first met, wore comfortable slacks, a shirt, and a jacket, and had a troubled expression.
“Hmph. Grandfather… I haven’t done a single thing a grandfather should do. Jared was cared for by Daum. Thanks to that, he was blessed with a good partner like you, and was able to start a family. I thank you.”
Olivier’s cheeks flushed. Although she was only his fiancée for now, she wanted to become his partner and support him someday. That was precisely why she was happy to be called his partner by his grandfather.
“No, it’s nothing of the sort. Our meeting was, by no means, a good one.”
“I’ve heard from Daum.”
“It’s truly embarrassing. However, I love him now, and I am truly happy that I am able to love him.”
“Let me thank you again. Liz must be delighted.”
“I am happy if that is the case.”
Olivier noticed that Wahash’s gruff face softened when he spoke his deceased daughter’s name.
Olivier had desperately tried to protect her mother, who had been targeted many times, refusing to lose her. Although her efforts had paid off, and she now enjoyed peaceful days, she wondered how Wahash felt, having lost his family.
It was the same for her younger fiancé, Jared. He lost his mother in childhood, and his relationship with his father was not good. It was difficult to imagine the feelings of Wahash, who had lost his daughter whom he lived apart from, and Jared, who had spent his childhood in loneliness.
“Um, what was the reason for your visit today? You said you wanted to see only me, but did I do something wrong?”
She asked, unable to understand his intentions, as he had specifically requested to meet only Olivier, not Jared, or Rosa and Pfeil who lived with her.
Currently, Olivier was alone in the mansion. Jared had been sent shopping, her mother had gone to her father’s, and Trane was accompanying her mother to the main family residence to prepare because Rio apparently wanted to invite guests. Rosa and Pfeil were free to do as they pleased, and Almeida was also away on business. Rio had also disappeared from the mansion at some point.
To meet the head of an assassination organization alone was reckless beyond measure, but because he was the grandfather of the man she loved, she did not want to be overly cautious.
For the record, she had not told Jared about meeting Wahash. She knew he would surely object, and that he would absolutely not allow her to meet him alone.
She might be scolded later, but still, Olivier wanted to meet Wahash.
“It’s nothing. Jared likely has complex feelings towards me, so I’m avoiding seeing him as much as possible. I’m not trying to replace Jared, but I thought it would be good for you, his partner, to know about me.”
“About me, Grandpa?”
“Of course, I’m not forcing you to listen. It’s only if you’d like to.”
“Please do tell me.”
Olivier, who accepted without hesitation, received Wahash’s thanks, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
