“I was never the type to think much of family.”
With those words, Wahash began to speak.
“I couldn’t do anything satisfactory for my daughters, or for Pfeil, whom I considered like a son. But, in my own way, I did care about the children.”
“I understand.”
It was true that Wahash had likely never been, nor could he have been, a typical father. However, Olivier could tell that he cared for his children. This was because both his daughter, Rosa, and Pfeil, whom he called like a son, admired Wahash without exception.
It was impossible for him, who had even sought revenge for his deceased daughter, to not love his children.
“Of course, it’s the same for Jared. However, I knew of my grandson’s existence and left him. He is the child of my daughter who left me, and I thought he wouldn’t want me nearby.”
Olivier didn’t know if that judgment was for the best.
“But I realized how cruel fate can be. To think that he was sold off to a place hidden within my organization, and even belonged to it temporarily.”
Perhaps it should be called human connection, but Olivier felt a sense of destiny.
Jared certainly did not have an ordinary childhood. He lost his mother, and though his relationship with his stepmother was good, he had a poor relationship with his father and his consort. In the end, he was disdained by his consort and sold to a certain organization.
However, this might have been a significant turning point for Jared.
He met Luzer Fischer at an illegal facility, and the two escaped together. Although they were separated later, Jared was taken in by his master, Almeida, and his talent as a magician began to bloom.
After that, he returned to the Capital City and became Olivier’s fiancé. Then, he saved her from her suffering and became part of her family.
Now, even the person who tried to take his life lives under the same roof as family. One never knows what life will bring.
“It’s truly shameful, but I only learned of that much later.”
Wahash contorted his face as if regretting.
“It’s nothing more than an excuse, but I was not knowledgeable about organizations, and I had people I trusted implicitly, but I was betrayed. As a result, my organization began to undertake more assassinations than necessary. One of those was the request to target you and your mother. You know the outcome, so I will omit it.”
The assassination organization Waalthe was being privatized by a man named Dolf Ein. Successors other than Rosa and the others also followed Dolf, and it was no exaggeration to say the organization was half-split.
Olivier had also heard the details from Rosa and Pfeil. That it was Dolf Ein who received the request from Cornelia Alway, his father’s consort.
And then, Dolf was defeated by Pfeil and the others, along with the successors.
Although the organization greatly declined due to this incident, it could likely recover as long as Wahash and the others were there.
“No apology will ever be enough for what I did to you and your mother. I have no intention of asking for forgiveness. Please, resent me to your heart’s content. I have done enough to deserve it.”
“No, I do not resent you. My mother likely feels the same. I cannot say that you are not at fault, even if my life depended on it.”
“I see.”
“However, let’s stop here. The wrongdoers have received their due punishment. I, and my mother, are moving forward. As are Jared, and Rosa and Pfeil, who have become family.”
“I will wholeheartedly respect you for calling those who tried to take your life family.”
To Olivier, who, despite being potentially killed, clearly declared Pfeil and Rosa, who had targeted her life, as family.
“As expected, I’m glad you are my grandson’s fiancé.”
He smiled gently.
