“I have reflected on my past actions. While the organization was established for my own objectives, I relied too heavily on others. Therefore, I believe it is time to dissolve it.”
Olivier’s eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected words.
“You intend to disband the organization?”
“It is an organization that has caused you and your family much suffering over the years. It would be for the best. Fortunately, arrangements have been made for my subordinates to be taken in by this kingdom. While some may not wish to be affiliated with the kingdom, I intend to help them plan their futures together.”
Olivier could not hide her astonishment, not only at Waahash’s consideration of dissolving Waalthe, but even more so at the Wethered Kingdom’s willingness to accept assassins.
“What will you do about Pfeil and Rosa?”
“It seems both of them have found someone they love. If that is the case, they will live as they please. That is my wish as well.”
Wahash then paused for a moment, a slightly troubled expression on his face.
“I heard that Rosa has a strong affection for your younger brother.”
“It seems your brother was the one who first fell for Rosa. Now, they appear to be mutually in love, and she has also built a good relationship with your brother’s mother.”
“Is that so? She was a daughter who spent her days only in combat, but it is wonderful that she can now experience a normal life.”
Olivier felt that Wahash’s eyes had softened slightly.
She sensed that he was not speaking as the leader of an organization, but as a father wishing for his daughter’s happiness.
“I, too, hope that my brother and Rosa’s relationship will go well.”
“Thank you. I also hear that Pfeil has a woman he is close to.”
“Yes, she is a good person. Jared and I consider her family.”
“Then I can rest assured knowing Pfeil is in your care.”
Ernesta, who had been manipulated in the previous incident, causing Olivier and Jared to be captured, still feels a sense of responsibility.
Encouraged by Pfeil, Jared, her superior, Olivier, who had been in danger, and Hannelore and the other residents of the mansion, whom she considered family, she had finally returned to her position as Secretary Officer.
Even so, the guilt did not easily disappear, and she stopped visiting the mansion as she used to. While not entirely absent, she rarely visited even after multiple invitations.
Olivier and the others felt a sense of impatience, able to do nothing but pray that time would heal her. However, thanks to Pfeil’s dedicated efforts to help her, she had recently begun to regain her smile, so it was likely that she would return to her former self soon.
“Speaking of Pfeil, I heard he received an offer to become a Court Mage. I must say, this kingdom is quite courageous, but I am delighted that he is considering it positively.”
“But, well, weren’t Rosa and Pfeil your successors?”
Olivier wondered if it was right for her grandfather’s successors to become involved with the Wethered Kingdom, even if Wahash was planning to disband the organization.
“It matters not.”
However, to Olivier’s surprise, Wahash was nonchalant.
“I had other successors besides those two, but they betrayed me. There is no need to become a successor to a man who is easily betrayed. Fortunately, I have passed on my techniques. All I wish is for them to use it for themselves and their families.”
“…Grandfather.”
“I am glad that they have a bright future. They are still in your care, and may cause you trouble in the future, but please look after them.”
“Yes, of course. They are important family to me.”
“…I am truly glad that a woman who can call someone who is not of her blood family without hesitation is my grandson’s Fiancé. –Please, take care of my grandson.”
With that, Wahash bowed his head deeply, and Olivier replied with a clear voice.
