I’m having so much fun.
It’s incredibly fun.
I’m aware that I’m engaged in a dangerous activity called combat, but even so, fighting an instructor, a powerful warrior, makes my heart leap with joy.
Is the fact that I can think this way a testament to my talent, in a way?
Or perhaps I was inherently a battle-maniac?
Considering my mother’s current profession and usual personality, the bloodline theory is also hard to dismiss.
At this point, I have no choice but to say that either way doesn’t matter, but the environment where I can simply enjoy fighting is something I’m grateful for in my current situation.
“Puha.”
My sense of time is barely hanging on.
Subjectively, it feels like about eight hours have passed since I started fighting the instructors.
“Oh? Are you tired already?”
“Not yet!”
I drink a tiny bit of potion, which barely counts as a break, in the scant time I have, and dive back into the battle.
Me, the instructor, and the Dragon King.
Time truly flies when the three of us are locked in this three-way battle.
Even the time it takes to check my watch feels like a waste.
I swing my Ore Tree to fend off the instructor, who attacks without missing even a sliver of a chance for me to recover.
The speed of my sword slashes hasn’t diminished at all.
“You too, instructor! You were just replenishing your water earlier!! Are you not getting any younger?”
“Don’t talk nonsense, I get stronger when I drink!”
“Hah! To think you need to replenish your energy with combat of this level, how pathetic!!”
The ground cracks, the air constantly bursts, and in reality, the conversation should have been drowned out by the sounds of battle.
However, my enhanced hearing picks up those faint voices and transmits them to me.
The tone of those voices clearly conveys that they are enjoying the current situation.
In reality, deafening noises and roars are echoing around me, enough to possibly rupture my eardrums.
When the instructor swings his fist, a sonic boom, proof of breaking the sound barrier, is generated.
When the Dragon King moves its colossal body, a roar that could be mistaken for a dynamite explosion echoes.
When I swing my Ore Tree, the air splits, and a downdraft occurs as the air rushes to fill the void.
We are aggressively destroying the environment, but I can feel gazes from the periphery, as if they want to join in.
Is it alright? To just watch from the sidelines?
Frankly, if things continue like this, I’ll probably run out of energy by the time limit.
However, it’s not just me; the instructor and the Dragon King fighting here are overflowing with fighting spirit, as if this is just the prelude.
You won’t win by just observing.
The corners of my mouth are probably curved into a smile, unwilling to give up this enjoyment.
My gaze remains fixed on the formidable enemies before me, yet I don’t neglect to stay alert to my surroundings.
I’m probably at peak condition, with full energy and spirit, compared to any battle I’ve had before.
“Kaha.”
“You look like you’re having fun!”
Does the instructor appreciate that I’m smiling amid such a battle?
He’s trying to defeat me, using his ferocious fists, his deadly legs, and his body that can only be called a weapon.
“Yes, yes! I am having fun! I’m enjoying myself more than at any other point in my life!”
Despite the attacks, which are like a concentration of killing intent, I speak to him with the casualness of someone making small talk.
Not a single blow must land.
If it lands, it would be a fatal wound, but I barely dodge or block such attacks, and while counter-attacking, I reveal my inner thoughts without hesitation.
The emotion of enjoyment burns hotly within me.
However, the part of my mind that is trying to maintain that heat is observing the situation with an extreme coolness, almost frigid.
“So, please don’t fall for something like this, you two!”
“Of course! It’s only just begun!”
“You dare speak to me, human!!”
It’s not provocation, but a wish from the bottom of my heart.
The answer to my words, the response I wished for, comes in the form of violence from both of them.
From the bottom of my heart, I think this is a perfect answer and I can enjoy myself even more.
Fortunately, the area where we are currently fighting is the central area on the map.
This area is the last to fall.
That means we can fight to our heart’s content until then.
Whether it’s the dragon’s breath or the oni’s ferocious fists, I’ll take them on.
I’ll slice through every single one of them.
Even the strength of the Dragon King’s claws, which just attacked me.
“I understand.”
A clear and beautiful sound, unlike that of two hard objects colliding, rang out.
From the feedback, I knew I had sliced through the Dragon King’s claw, which had been imbued with magic power.
After all, I knew it could be cut, so it was bound to be cut.
The Dragon King’s eyes widened in surprise at the reality of it being cut with certainty, but quickly transformed into a smile.
“! Not bad!!”
“Ohohoho! This is getting fun!”
He instantly regenerated the severed claw.
I don’t know what others who witnessed this fact thought.
But the one who was attacked seems satisfied and appears to be pouring more magic power into the battle.
The dragon’s eyes, once filled with astonishment, quickly became filled with joy, and as if responding to the dragon, the oni joyfully attacked with its body.
“Then how about this! Jiro!”
The oni’s body, imbued with wholehearted effort, is terrifying.
Its physical strength, which makes one wonder what kind of material it’s made of, shatters the ground, tears apart the sky, and fells trees with the shock.
However, even against the instructor charging with such a physique, I chose not to receive the blade of my Ore Tree.
“I’ll just do this!!”
Dodging or parrying the attacks, I spun my blade in counter-attack, but this time, instead of clashing, I evaded.
This means he judged that he must not receive my attack.
Ah, I’m so happy.
Did he consider me a threat?
I was worried if I could get through to him.
That anxiety is dispelled by this action alone.
I have now undoubtedly reached the pinnacle of this oni.
“Partner! Channel your magic power.”
“Roger!”
If not now, then when?
I’ll use the abundant magic power I’ve prepared to its fullest!
Just as I thought this and took a step forward.
Magic energy reaction from beyond the mountain, which had not been ravaged by our battle.
Not a small-scale reaction, but a large-scale one.
The power was comparable to siege magic capable of attacking a fortress.
In other words, it was powerful enough to inflict damage on at least some of the members present here.
I can feel the enjoyment I was feeling gradually cooling down.
The opponent who dared to pour cold water on our fun must have thought this was an opportunity to intervene.
Or perhaps it was a sense of crisis, thinking that this couldn’t go on.
Ah, yes, that judgment is not wrong.
If we continued to just watch without doing anything, defeat was certain.
Intervening at the appropriate timing is not wrong.
In response, similar-scale magic reactions occur from the surrounding area.
Indeed, if this many spells were to fall on this spot, we should be prepared for considerable damage.
But.
I am not so naive as to overlook such interference.
“Don’t interfere.”
That is, if you intend to overlook it.
I think my voice dropped to a terrifyingly low tone.
I knew that being interrupted while enjoying oneself would displease a person, but I didn’t expect my mood to sour this much.
I am not succumbing to passion.
Nor am I losing myself to anger and losing control.
I simply feel displeasure at being interfered with, and I’ve hastily changed the technique I planned to use on the instructors.
I know the instructors wouldn’t listen even if I asked them to wait while I eliminated the interference.
Therefore, I chose a method that would not expose any openings and would eliminate the disturbers.
My left hand is empty. I summon a different sword from my spare, Shkuren, not from space magic.
Not just one or two, but about fifteen disposable swords appear in the air, and I spin them, pointing their tips in all directions around me.
Because I’m in the midst of battle, my thoughts are accelerated, and the instructors’ movements appear in slow motion, but the same is true for my own movements. This is the scene created by accelerating only my thoughts within the accelerated domain.
If I could summon Valse-san, I could accelerate even further, but summoning that spirit consumes an immense amount of magic power.
I would only do it when I’ve decided to finish things for sure.
If I can manage with my current capabilities, I will proceed as is.
In my vision, the instructor is approaching from the left, and I predict a left straight punch will come.
I’m suspended in the air, and there are about 0.6 seconds until the Dragon King launches its magic and breath attacks from above.
If things continue as they are, both attacks will hit me simultaneously.
Therefore, it would be ideal to intercept them simultaneously, at the very least repelling the attacks, and ideally piercing through them.
In that case, considering the attack ratio, I’ll direct six of the fifteen swords at the instructor and the Dragon King.
I’ll silence the surroundings with the remaining swords.
“Eat this.”
The preparations are complete; now, witness the result.
I had intended to show this technique a little later, but it’s not uncommon for plans to be moved up.
Without worrying, without holding back, I activate it.
The ultimate technique for long-range annihilation.
“Mountain Collapse.”
With the momentum of rotation, I accumulate magic power, forming centrifugal force with that magic power to create rapidly spinning blades.
To an outsider, it looks like a spinning cutter and doesn’t pose any threat to the instructor or the Dragon King.
However, its true power lies ahead.
“Moon Mountain.”
The high-purity magic power generated by the Ore Tree resides in the sword blades, and although the sword blades cry out, they are, after all, disposable, mass-produced swords.
However, even though they are mass-produced, they are all famous swords crafted by Giant artisans.
The price of one is about five million.
And now, about fifteen of them are about to be gone.
“Dance of Scattering.”
With a clang, I cut the threads of magic power holding the swords, and all fifteen swords fly out in all directions.
This includes the instructor, and even more so because he’s up close, he has to intercept the swords approaching him at high speed.
Did he have a bad premonition, or was it the intuition of a veteran?
Disliking the idea of touching the swords, the instructor dodged them with a somewhat exaggerated movement.
Even the Dragon King, to protect its colossal body, flapped its wings at high speed, interrupting its attack and evading the incoming blades.
Ah, yes.
That is the correct response.
These swords must never be touched, intercepted, or blocked.
After all, these swords explode.
“That’s a brutal attack.”
The attacks from three of the swords succeeded in restraining the instructor’s movements, creating a brief window of time for me to prepare my counter-attack.
At that moment, the instructor’s face, instead of looking exasperated or surprised, was simply smiling, as if impressed.
“I thought that wouldn’t be enough to defeat you.”
And just a few seconds later.
A massive explosion occurred from the terrain in all directions, centered around us.
It occurred from behind where the instructor had dodged, and from above where the Dragon King had dodged. The scale of the explosion’s magic power far surpassed the siege magic that had been about to be launched earlier.
“I was already anticipating that this wouldn’t be enough, arming the weapons with your magic power and overloading them. I must have rated you quite highly to think that. That’s the scale of power that could wipe out an army with just one.”
“Fortunately, I’m contracted with a Spirit of Time and Space, so I can stop time just before the explosion and store them.”
“You’re quite resourceful.”
The principle is simple and clear.
During preparation, I engraved a spell onto the blade of a sword made of a material with good magic absorption, and then injected my magic power to its limit.
At the point of injection, just before it explodes, I freeze the sword’s time, along with its magic power, using Valse-san’s space-time magic.
Then, upon releasing the spell, the sword, having become a magic bomb with my unstable magic power, is launched.
It’s not its original intended use, but it has quite a bit of power.
Originally, the reason I made them in sword form was to overwhelm the instructors by continuously using augmented magic like Takemikazuchi, Amaterasu, and Kagutsuchi, shortening the spell construction, even though the weapons would be destroyed after a single use.
The sword’s body would crumble after one strike, but it’s a kind of simple offensive magic tool with considerable power.
However, this also consumes a lot of magic power, and I had planned to use it as one of my trump cards in a prolonged battle during the latter half. I never expected to have to use it at this timing.
“Due to budget constraints, I couldn’t prepare that many, but don’t worry, I still have plenty.”
Fortunately, I haven’t used them all.
I have thirty-two remaining.
Should I consider it a cheap price for clearing the interference with fifteen, or should I lament the depletion of my hand in terms of combat options?
Perhaps it’s better to refresh my mood rather than dwelling on such things.
At least the surroundings are quiet now.
I don’t think they were wiped out by that level of attack, but they surely aren’t unharmed.
“Now then, shall we continue?”
It’s not exactly a restart, but I slowly lift my Ore Tree and place it on my shoulder.
“The real fight begins now.”
I once again stoke the flames of my spirit.
