Entering a Company From Another World! – Chapter 765

The sight of that attack, and all I could think was, “overwhelming.”

That one word.

Even though I had retreated to the main camp and tried not to look at the battlefield, I could still feel the hatred towards the gods.

“I see. It really was the right decision not to look,” I muttered, scratching my head as I gazed at the direction of that ominous light.

It was the celestial gate, a sight I recognized.

It was a masterful feat accomplished by the president, who had intentionally created it from our side. Now, it was closed, and the sky had returned to normal, but the attack we had just witnessed made it clear what had happened.

Even I, who admits to being somewhat insensitive, could grasp what that attack was made of. Once I understood its connection to the word “curse,” I knew it was something I absolutely shouldn’t touch.

This was a prime example of “letting sleeping dogs lie.” The mere acknowledgment of that attack made me feel like I was being cursed by the gods, so I quickly tried to change the subject.

“Instructor, regarding what’s next, we’re naturally going to attack, right?”

“Indeed.”

This was after witnessing an attack that I intuitively understood to be a dangerous entity. While it was an attack that could have been a decisive blow, I also had an intuitive feeling that it hadn’t been enough to finish them off.

It was a cursed object created specifically for gods, infused with the president’s abundant magic power, amplifying the curse’s effects and imbuing a divine avatar. Yet, even so, the fact that it didn’t seem to be enough to defeat them proved the nature of gods.

I looked up at the sky, asking the instructor, who was doing the same beside me, a question. I believed the god had been weakened by this attack.

Shielding my eyes from the sun with my hand, I looked towards it and saw a change had already occurred.

“Black spots on the sun… they’re increasing, little by little.”

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We can’t waste it. Let’s go, Jirou. The Giant King’s commander is waiting.”

This weakening was visually confirmed. But staring at the sun alone would be a waste of time. Even if I didn’t expect a massive cursed object to be dispelled so quickly, time was our enemy.

We had to act swiftly.

Understanding this, I started walking at a brisk pace, following the instructor’s back. As I did, I could feel the entire army buzzing around us.

Speculation flew through the camp: Did they really have a way to attack the gods directly? How much damage did that attack inflict?

They were in a frenzy. Even considering the unprecedented scale of this victory just achieved, they seemed a bit agitated.

I resigned myself to the fact that the impact of that attack had been so strong that I couldn’t help but feel that way.

The instructor and the Giant King walked silently through the noisy camp. Walking alongside them, the path naturally cleared. We arrived without stopping at the president’s location, where security was tight.

“Well, I’ve been waiting for you.”

Seeing the president there, for a moment, I didn’t recognize him.

But hearing his voice, I knew who it was. Supported by his subordinates, he was emaciated, his hair had turned white, and he appeared so weak that I couldn’t recognize him as the president.

“Hmph. If you’re in that state, Commander, it looks like it will be my job to punch that god bastard out,” said the instructor, who spoke to him without a hint of concern, despite the president’s visibly poor condition.

Even after recognizing him, I was momentarily disbelieving. The instructor’s words jolted me back to reality, and I strained my ears, not wanting to miss what was to come.

“Hahaha, unfortunately, I’ve already landed a good blow. I’m content with that for now. It’s just that I overused my magic a bit. I also drank an elixir. I’ll recover quickly after a little rest.”

The president’s voice, which was usually full of life and clear, was now weak like that of a sick person, his life force as faint as a candle flame. That’s how I felt.

“Then you should recover as quickly as possible. You know me, Commander. I don’t have much patience.”

“Ah, yes. You’ve always been straightforward, always taking the shortest path.”

The instructor’s voice sounded like encouragement. Words that seemed to hold someone back from the brink of death.

“I can’t stand missing out on this once-in-a-lifetime showdown.”

Hearing this, the president, with a faint smile he often wore, seemed to regain a little spirit, or perhaps there was no time to spare for this conversation. His cheerful expression quickly faded.

“Oni King Raidou.”

“Yes.”

He called the instructor’s name first, as the Demon Lord.

“Giant King Valse.”

“Understood.”

Then, the Giant King’s name.

“Human King Jirou.”

“Yes.”

Finally, he called my name.

“I have ordered the Dragon King and the Tree King to secure the gate of light. Knowing them, they have already occupied it and secured a bridgehead. Leave this place to the Undead King, and you three, lead the armies you can command and rendezvous with both generals. I have given Evia instructions for what comes next.”

He gave us instructions to proceed with our mission, not with regret for our inability to participate in the battle ahead, nor with apologies.

“I’m counting on you for the future of this world.”

” ” “Understood.” ” ”

A temporary withdrawal from the front lines. The departure of our highest fighting force, capable of reaching the god’s life, was significant. However, it was more than enough of a victory to create a chance to defeat the god.

“The Machine King’s battleship will transport you to your destination. I have already made arrangements with the Empire for their forces as well.”

Slowly descending from the sky was the flagship that Kaido had been on. While I was relieved that it hadn’t been involved in that magic circle, seeing the damage in places on its hull told me of the intense battle above, and I felt a little worried.

The rear hatch opened, and presumably, as the president had instructed beforehand, the elite forces of the Oni King and the Giant King, excluding the president’s personal guards, began boarding the ship. Following them, unfamiliar soldiers boarded the ship.

So, those were the Empire’s soldiers… I thought I saw the face of a middle-aged man I recognized, but I decided to ignore it. Himusumi wasn’t on board, naturally.

“I expect good news.”

“As you wish.”

“I will do my best.”

Leaving behind our three distinct replies, we also headed for the ship. It might have been faster to go by Teleportation Magic, but we didn’t have the capacity for such a large force. Furthermore, the situation on the other side didn’t seem very stable either. Was it a case of “haste makes waste”?

As we walked up the gangway, we were greeted by a golem in butler attire and Kaido, wearing rather luxurious clothes and a hat.

“I am Kaido, the Captain. I will ensure everyone gets there swiftly.”

Kaido, whose subordinate-like speech still slipped through his polite address, must have practiced diligently. He offered us a very respectable salute.

This was not the time for pleasantries. Even if they were acquaintances or drinking buddies, rank was paramount on the battlefield. This was the correct way to respond. The Giant King and I nodded silently.

“Make sure we get there as quickly as possible.” The instructor gave the order, speaking for us.

“Understood!”

With a silent, wry smile at Kaido’s response, I sent a telepathic message.

“Suella, can you hear me?”

Since we had withdrawn from the battlefield, Valse-san had been waiting, and Suella was with him.

“Yes, I can hear you. Has the situation changed?”

“Ah, we’re changing battlefields. We’re heading into enemy territory. Come here with Valse-san.”

We had prepared for any eventuality, but if the battlefield changed, a different unit would handle any potential issues.

“Enemy territory… you mean, into the divine realm?”

“Ah.”

A place no one had ever ventured into before. Suella’s voice held a hint of tension at the prospect of entering such a place. However, she possessed immense power as a spirit, and I couldn’t afford to leave her out of our fighting force.

“Understood. We’ll head over immediately.”

With Valse-san and Suella coming to us, my forces were now complete.

“Alright, I’ll show you to your room!”

Being able to rest, even for a short while, in the battleship was a welcome relief.

“Kaido, do you have any alcohol?”

“Not at the moment. I can prepare food right away, though.”

My body felt a bit stiff in places due to maintaining extreme tension and overusing my magic. I could still operate at full capacity, but if I could rest now, I wanted to. The instructor, who was clearly in the mood for a boisterous time, looked displeased at the lack of alcohol and kept glancing at me.

“Please go easy on it, Senpai.”

“Why do you have it, Senpai?”

I could easily guess what that meant. With a wry smile, I reached into my interdimensional storage and took out a bottle filled with an amber liquid. The instructor’s face lit up with a wide smile. Seeing the Giant King looking somewhat envious, I offered him one as well. He accepted it silently and gave a brief nod of thanks.

It was quite common in this world to bring alcohol onto the battlefield. However, for an urgent operation like this, supplies were limited, and luxuries were restricted. At best, we might have some mass-produced cheap wine. While that wouldn’t be bad, for these two connoisseurs, a bottle of whiskey would be preferable to a barrel of wine. To Kaido, who looked exasperated, I simply put my index finger to my lips, signaling secrecy.

“Well then, I’m going to rest for a bit. Suella will be joining us later, so please show her to my room.”

“Understood!”

I didn’t have much stock, but I knew that making this Oni stressed wouldn’t lead to anything good. I resigned myself to it being a necessary expense. I declined the instructor’s disappointed inquiry about whether I was drinking and was led to my room by a small golem.

While the soldiers were sleeping in the hangar, I, as a General, was shown to a private room of considerable size.

“Ahhh.”

As I sank into the chair, I felt a softness I hadn’t expected, and my fatigue immediately washed over me, emitting an anachronistic groan. Though I wasn’t sleepy enough to stare blankly at the ceiling for minutes, the gradual onset of fatigue was slowly making my eyelids heavy. I could give in to the sleep, but there were still things to do.

First, to aid my recovery, I drank several potions to promote the healing of my wounds, stamina, and magic power.

“…”

Suddenly, I recalled how I used to chug energy drinks and coffee while working during times like these. Perhaps it was because I felt that even though the environment and the nature of the work were different now, some aspects were ultimately the same.

“Seriously, you can’t just get rid of being a corporate slave, can you?”

The only salvation, or perhaps the good part, was that even though I felt the work was tough, I didn’t feel it was painful. An environment where there was worth and where achievements were recognized. I suppose many corporate slaves yearn for that.

“… Kukukukuku.”

Thinking this, I realized for the first time that I was a more approval-seeking person than I thought. It was laughable, truly laughable. After all, humans are creatures that find joy in being recognized by others, by third parties.

“Ah, there’s such a huge difference between being used and being relied upon.”

And the feeling of being used by a Black company versus being trusted and relied upon in my current workplace. Finally, I understood and could truly feel the difference in that sensation, which led to a difference in motivation, creating a chasm in our drive.
