Chapter 1107 The Heart of a Loving Parent
“Ah! Help!” The three were terrified, their faces ashen. Only one soldier managed to react and raise his shield. They had no idea when the Flying Ape Fiend had appeared behind them.
“Don’t panic!” “I’ll save you!” Two voices shouted, seemingly in a hurry. One was the old Demon Hunter, the other the Dragonborn Captain. But I knew they weren’t usually like this, nor did they speak with such urgency.
The two of them leaped forward simultaneously, bringing their subordinates along. The youth Demon Hunter raised his explosion hammer, parrying and slashing, while the Scout charged at high speed on the ground, dual blades thrusting towards the other Flying Ape Fiend’s rear.
They achieved a tacit understanding without any communication. The Demon Hunters exclusively attacked the male Flying Ape Fiends, while the mercenaries targeted the females.
With their egg stolen, the Flying Ape Fiends completely ignored the surprise attack from behind, focusing all their efforts on killing the little thief who had stolen their egg and retrieving it.
It seemed both teams knew about this demonic beast instinct. They deliberately had these three pathetic subordinates steal the egg to attract the Flying Ape Fiends’ attention, then let the fiends pass them by, allowing them to launch a fatal blow.
Just as their plan intended, the Flying Ape Fiends, intent on reclaiming their egg, ignored the attacks from behind. The four of them simultaneously struck their backs.
“Boom!” The Demon Hunter’s explosion hammer and harpoon spear simultaneously pierced the male Flying Ape Fiend’s back. The harpoon then fired, triggering a secondary explosion.
Following that, a gunshot rang out. Two large bullets shot from the Female Demon Hunter’s double-barreled shotgun. These large-caliber bullets, specifically designed for hunting demonic beasts, directly entered the wound created by the explosion.
“Roar!” The Flying Ape Fiend let out a tragic cry. This time, it had truly sustained a fatal injury. The bullets had undoubtedly damaged its internal organs. But simultaneously, with its dying attack, it swatted the stunned soldier in front of it to death. The egg rolled onto the ground, seemingly intact.
If this tactic hadn’t been predicated on sacrificing teammates, I would have applauded. The coordination was incredibly默契 (mòqì – tacit understanding). Such precise shots into explosive wounds wouldn’t be possible without years of fighting together.
At the same time, the Dragonborn Captain and the Scout also struck the female Flying Ape Fiend simultaneously. The Bard’s aria suddenly became passionate and heroic, greatly increasing their attack power.
In my eyes, the Captain had completely transformed into a ferocious dragon. His body was covered in black scales, two dragon horns stood tall, and his face resembled an underdeveloped dragon’s head. However, this didn’t hinder his significant increase in strength.
His dual hammers struck the base of the Flying Ape Fiend’s wings, the dragonfire from the hammers entering its wings. The Scout, meanwhile, plunged his dual blades into its backside, his silver blades also coated in poison.
Their method was like slow slicing, injecting fire and poison into the female’s body to slowly wear it down. This was safer but slower.
The female Flying Ape Fiend let out a mournful cry. Ignoring the pain from its back, it clawed at the two individuals before it. One soldier raised his shield to block, but the round shield was swatted away with a single grasp, its shape deformed.
Just as they despaired, awaiting death, a greatsword pierced from the side, blocking in front of them and stopping the claw attack.
“Put down the egg! Quickly!” Older Brother Jayad shouted. He couldn’t stand by and watch them die. Upon seeing both sides deliberately let the monster pass, he rushed forward to save them.
“Oh, oh!” The two subordinates hadn’t even reacted, still trapped in their previous fear. Hearing Jayad’s words, they instinctively dropped the egg and scrambled away.
“Attack its egg!” the Dragonborn Captain yelled. I was startled. We were here to steal the egg, so why were they attacking it? Wouldn’t that be a wasted effort?
But his subordinates, the Hunter, the Scout, and the Berserker, didn’t hesitate and attacked the egg that had rolled onto the ground. Then I understood their reasoning.
The female Flying Ape Fiend clasped its arms together, its entire body shielding its nest. Its enormous frame blocked all attacks. Despite being bloody and mangled from behind, letting out continuous cries, it refused to move.
I couldn’t help but feel a pang of emotion. Even savage monsters possessed maternal love. They instinctively protected their young, even at the cost of their own lives.
But we were here to take their eggs, to kill them, and then enslave their children, forcing them to work for their murderers. It was truly evil to the extreme.
At this moment, looking at the two teams surrounding the Flying Ape Fiends, I felt only malice, as if I were looking at the monsters they were fighting. I suspected my intuition was failing me.
“Sigh!” Older Brother Jayad sighed and raised his greatsword. A whirlwind began to coil around the blade, as he had partially unleashed the power of the Amadeus greatsword.
The whirlwind, imbued with ice and snow enchantments, further amplified the greatsword’s power. Older Brother Jayad thrust his sword forward, intending to end the female Flying Ape Fiend’s suffering with a single blow, preventing it from being tormented to death.
“Stop! That’s what we’re after!” the Hunter shouted, trying to block Jayad. Their prior agreement was that any monster killed solely by the Fire Lizard Squad would be entirely theirs to handle. Seeing Jayad about to deliver the finishing blow, he naturally assumed Jayad was trying to steal the kill.
“Get out of the way!” Older Brother Jayad had no intention of explaining. His sword, “Frostlight,” was unstoppable. The Hunters who tried to block him were directly blown away by wind pressure.
The Dragonborn Captain attempted to block with his dual hammers, but the greatsword pushed them aside. The dragonfire on his hammers was suppressed by the frost. The Dragonborn Captain was shocked, finally realizing he had underestimated the young man’s strength.
Older Brother Jayad pressed forward relentlessly. The remaining two mercenaries could only grudgingly step aside, watching as Jayad was about to strike the Flying Ape Fiend with his sword, claiming the kill.
Just then, the severely wounded male Flying Ape Fiend let out a great roar. As if experiencing its final resurgence, it leaped up, positioning itself behind the female.
“Screech!” With the sound of tearing flesh, the Amadeus greatsword, powered up and enchanted, directly pierced the male Flying Ape Fiend’s body, which had been Invulnerable moments before. This time, it was truly dead.
“What?!” the Demon Hunter exclaimed. They had thought the male Flying Ape Fiend was already finished, never expecting it to still have the strength to stand and fight back.
Older Brother Jayad was also surprised. He looked up at the male Flying Ape Fiend, preparing to withdraw his sword. However, the male Flying Ape Fiend let out a dying roar.
“Brother, watch out for the shockwave!” I shouted anxiously. Older Brother Jayad didn’t have time to draw his greatsword. A green sonic wave rippled outwards. Jayad was hit head-on by the sonic wave and sent flying.
But the greatsword was also pulled out, sending fragments of blood and internal organs flying. The wind blades and ice that had surrounded the greatsword had already torn its insides apart. Now, it was truly beyond saving; even a god couldn’t rescue it.
