Cecilia said the culprit was a werewolf.
The place we were guided to was on a hill overlooking a calm sea. I don’t know if they’re coming tonight, but it’s worth keeping watch. We haven’t devised an operation yet, but it’s a priority to first understand the enemy’s form. I extinguished the lantern and strained my eyes in the moonlight. The sentry who followed me kept looking around beside me.
After a while, as my eyelids began to droop from the darkness, Veronica shook my shoulder.
“Hey, look over there.”
I rubbed my eyes and turned my gaze from the bushes towards the forest. There, five men were standing. They were looking at the sheep farm and talking about something. Then the men began to undress there and put their clothes into their bags.
“Hey, what are they doing?! Are they perverts?!”
Nina leaned over my back and poked her head out.
“No, that’s not it. They’re about to transform.”
Elana and Pauline, who should have been separated, appeared from the darkness.
“You guys! I’m glad you’re alive. I was worried about what happened when we got separated.”
“Don’t underestimate us too much. More importantly, look.”
When Elana told me to, I looked back at the men, and they suddenly started groaning in pain. Then their bodies contorted, their hair and body hair began to grow, and it started covering them. I couldn’t see clearly, but their faces also warped, their mouths tearing strangely, and their noses elongating into a canine appearance. It was an unbelievable story, but it was happening right before my eyes. In an instant, they transformed into terrifying werewolves over two meters tall.
Leaving us stunned, the men ran towards the sheep farm. However, not all of them did; two did not transform and returned the way they came. Perhaps they were not werewolves.
“Alright, Sharin, Nina, and Lauren, chase after those men. They’ll surely return to their ship. We’ll go stop the werewolves. Lauren, can you restrain the men who went back?”
“Uh, uh, no, well, I’ll try.”
As I relayed the plan I’d come up with, the sentry next to me cried out and started running.
“Hic! What is that! A monster! I have to inform everyone!”
“Wait…!”
Before I could even grab the hem of his clothes, he ran off towards the village. This is bad. If everyone in the village gathers, people will get hurt. I wanted Pauline and Piyo to chase him, but they wouldn’t be able to stop him. With no other choice, I decided to focus on the werewolves in front of me for now.
“We have to stop them quickly, but can we win against them by ourselves? I feel like we can’t even inflict a scratch.”
“That’s true. Then let’s set up an ambush. We’ll intercept them when they bring the sheep. I’ll trap them in flames while we surround them and gradually wear them down.”
Everyone nodded at Elana’s plan.
