Section 53: Ah, You Are Chu Yun?!
By Gu Zhenren
February 9, 2013
A dozen burly men, accustomed to lording over this small village island, pounced with ferocious expressions at the command.
Chu Yun’s face turned cold: “I was going to pay you rent, but now I won’t bother.”
Without even drawing his saber, he casually grabbed an iron bar from nearby. As the first ruffian lunged, Chu Yun slammed the iron bar into his face.
*Swish!*
The ruffian fell with a cry. His cheekbone was shattered, blood gushing from his broken nose.
“Ah—!” he shrieked, clutching his nose with both hands, his body curled like a shrimp in agony.
The burly men behind him froze in unison. They were startled by the sudden, brutal wail.
They might have stopped, but Chu Yun did not.
With a cold snort, Chu Yun swung the iron bar with powerful force. For the past six months, he had been eating top-grade meals, using high-quality pills, and his body had undergone several levels of enhancement thanks to the Sky Fox, Drunken Snow Saber, and the Circular Yuan Dan Tree.
These ordinary burly men, without even a single Demonic Beast, were no match for his mortal body.
In an instant, Chu Yun was in the thick of the fight. Teeth flew, limbs cracked, blood splattered, and flesh tore wherever he struck.
“Mama!” The servant leader, seeing the tide turn, fled with his head in his hands.
But how could he outrun Chu Yun?
With a swing of the iron bar, Chu Yun tore through the man’s back clothes. The servant leader let out a scream, as if electrocuted, instinctively clutching his wound.
Chu Yun then kicked him, sending him flying a long distance before he landed on the ground with a thud.
“You wanted rent? This is your rent, take it well,” Chu Yun sneered. The iron bar whistled through the air, whipping the servant leader from head to toe.
The servant screamed in agony, rolling on the ground and begging for mercy, his cries echoing across Steam Dragon Island.
“It seems you can scream quite well?” Chu Yun’s expression was cold as he focused on the man’s mouth, knocking out all his teeth before finally stopping. He shook his arm, and the iron bar dripped with blood onto the ground.
The servant leader had completely lost consciousness, lying motionless on the ground like a dead dog.
Many villagers, drawn by the commotion, witnessed the scene and cheered loudly.
“Good job! Beat them well! So satisfying!”
“These Jia family lackeys finally got what they deserved.”
“Serves them right.”
Some villagers advised Chu Yun, “Young man, you should leave quickly. The Jia family has great influence. If you beat their dog, the master will come out.”
“Pack up and leave immediately. We’ll keep quiet about this for you.”
“The Jia family? Let them come then,” Chu Yun sneered, unfazed. He returned to the shop and roared at the groaning ruffians, “Scram!”
The ruffians flinched, yelping as they scrambled to their feet. Disheveled and dejected, they didn’t dare look at Chu Yun. They picked up their leader and fled in an instant.
“Xiao Yun…” Master Yu Ya looked worried.
“Don’t worry, Uncle Yu Ya. It’s fine. Let’s continue eating,” Chu Yun waved his hand, chuckling. It was hard to believe he was the same person as the ruthless young man from moments ago.
After reassuring Yu Ya, the four of them continued their meal.
Just as they finished, they heard footsteps approaching outside.
“Which bastard dared to hit my brother-in-law! Get out here!” a voice, arrogant and sinister, boomed into the shop.
Yu Ya stood up, but Chu Yun stopped him.
“It’s me,” Chu Yun sneered and walked out. He saw a large group of people surrounding a portly man, all looking fierce and clearly there to demand an explanation.
“Waa, wuwuwu!” Near the fat man was the servant leader, his entire body wrapped in white bandages. Upon seeing Chu Yun, his eyes blazed with furious hatred. He pointed at Chu Yun, but his swollen tongue made him unable to speak, only to whimper.
The fat man, however, trembled upon seeing Chu Yun. His gaze lingered on the saber hilt behind Chu Yun, revealing undisguised shock.
“May I ask, are you the Young Island Master of Shu Island, the young hero who slew the Savage Wolf and ranked on the Young Talents list at the tender age of thirteen, Young Master Chu Yun?” the fat man asked, cupping his fists with extreme solemnity.
The servant leader stopped whimpering, staring blankly at the fat man.
“So what if I am?” Chu Yun raised an eyebrow.
“Heh heh heh.” The fat man’s face contorted into a hypocritical smile, his eyes narrowing to slits, glinting with sharp light. “I am Jia Renhe, the head steward of the Jia family. Hearing that a slight misunderstanding occurred here, I have come to pay my respects and clarify matters.”
Jin Bihan also appeared, sneering from the side, “Your explanation style for misunderstandings is quite unique. Bringing such a large group, armed with knives and clubs, and some Monster Tamers, exuding hostility. Anyone would think you’ve come to cause trouble!”
“How could that be?!” Jia Renhe quickly waved his hands. “These small fry are no match for even one of Young Master Chu Yun’s hands. Even if you gave me ten times the courage, I wouldn’t dare to overstep. I also beg this scholar, please do not doubt my sincerity.”
Saying this, he let out a cold snort, his expression changing drastically. He glared at the servants beside him, then suddenly raised his hand and slapped the servant leader fiercely across the face.
*Slap!*
The blow was so hard that the stunned servant leader spun around three times before falling to the ground with a thud.
“You blind, ungrateful dog! How dare you offend Young Master Chu! Don’t you know the special trade relationship between our Jia family and the Shu family? You incompetent fool, you incompetent fool!”
Jia Renhe cursed, continuing to kick the servant leader, who coughed up blood.
“Enough. You can leave now,” Chu Yun frowned, waving his hand dismissively.
Jia Renhe bowed and retreated subserviently. “Since the misunderstanding has been clarified, I shall take my leave. Heh heh heh.”
The group, who had arrived with such imposing momentum, retreated in disgrace and disarray, leaving the onlookers astonished and murmuring.
“It seems that after the sea salt crisis, Shu Island is growing stronger and its influence is increasing,” Jin Bihan said with a smile as she approached Chu Yun.
“It’s because Jia Island is close to Shu Island. The Shu Family warships can reach the main island of Jia in a day and a night. Moreover, there are trade agreements, so they naturally wouldn’t ruin the relationship. The most crucial factor is that he’s just a minor steward, a high-ranking lackey,” Chu Yun said with a shrug, unconcerned.
“So Young Island Master Chu is the young hero who slew the Savage Wolf. Savage Wolf! He was the third-ranked pirate leader in the Archipelago. Ranking on the Young Talents list at just 13 years old. Truly remarkable,” Master Yu Ya, looking dejected, sighed deeply as he gazed at Chu Yun.
Hearing Yu Ya’s changed address, Chu Yun quickly waved his hand and smiled warmly, “Uncle Yu Ya, don’t flatter me too much. Just call me Xiao Yun. Life is like ocean waves; it has its ups and downs. Uncle, you’re just in a low period. As long as your fighting spirit doesn’t die, you’ll surely climb back to the crest.”
“Alas, it’s rare for someone to have faith in me, a failure. I’ve held onto hope for over ten years. But Zhong Qi’s betrayal truly broke my heart. To tell you the truth, it hit me hard. However, Chu Yun, you’re right. Life is like waves, a fitting analogy. Thank you for awakening me. Even if I don’t find the prescription this time, I will continue to strive!”
Yu Ya opened his heart, his eyes growing brighter as he spoke, an extraordinary aura subtly emanating from him. This aura brought to mind the reefs by the sea, unyielding to any wind or wave.
Chu Yun was also pleased. True strength requires talent, character, and power. Although Yu Ya was down on his luck, this experience had tempered his character to be as firm as a rock, which could be considered his greatest asset in life.
Heroes often face adversity; desperation forges the valiant.
As Chu Yun watched Yu Ya’s transformed demeanor, about to say something, a sharp premonition struck him.
“Careful!” Jin Bihan and Yan Que exclaimed simultaneously.
Chu Yun’s ears twitched, discerning the direction of the sound. Without looking back, he swung his arm and caught a flying arrow.
“A sneak attack? Get out here!” Chu Yun’s eyes flashed lightning as he turned, scanning the surroundings.
His gaze suddenly locked onto a suspicious figure flashing in a remote corner in the distance.
“Chase!” Chu Yun drew his saber and took the lead.
The figure, realizing Chu Yun had spotted him, grew even more flustered. He dropped his bow and, after a few steps, plunged into a river with a splash.
“Hmph, you think you can escape like this?” Yan Que scoffed, flicking his Immortal Pouch. Vines shot out like snakes, slithering into the river and tightly binding a person before dragging them ashore.
“Don’t, don’t kill me,” the person sputtered, spitting out river water, their body bright red from the heat, crying out in fear.
The river on Steam Dragon Island was very hot due to geothermal heating.
“Who are you, and why were you trying to assassinate me?” Chu Yun snorted, demanding an answer.
“I wasn’t trying to assassinate you! Sir, spare me! I was shooting a signal arrow! I had no idea it would fly near you and you’d grab it!” the person stammered, terrified. He was merely an ordinary wanderer with mediocre aptitude and a minor demon that was not worth mentioning. Three days ago, he was entrusted to shoot a signal arrow.
A signal arrow?
Chu Yun examined it and indeed found a hollowed-out space in the arrow shaft, concealing a letter.
He took it out and read the contents, surprising everyone.
A challenge letter!
The sender was none other than Zhong Qi.
In the letter, Zhong Qi declared that he had consumed the Heaven Spirit True Heart Pill and intended to thoroughly humiliate Yu Ya. If Yu Ya wanted to retrieve the Star-Fixing Bow and the prescription, he should go to Zhong Qi’s weapon forging room. The letter was arrogant and insulting towards Yu Ya, causing Chu Yun to frown.
“Shameless scoundrel!” Jin Bihan couldn’t help but curse.
“Is the weapon forging room also on this island?” Chu Yun asked Yu Ya.
“Of course. It’s at the foot of the small mountain in the center of the island. After he stole the prescription and the Star-Fixing Bow, I went there to find him. The door was shut tight, so I had to retreat in anger. I never expected Zhong Qi to return!” Yu Ya trembled, clenching the letter, his face a mixture of rage and excitement.
“To the weapon forging room,” Chu Yun decided without hesitation.
