Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Strange, what is this little girl doing in there? Why hasn’t she finished bathing yet?
Xi Wei glanced at the bathroom door with some confusion. He had been sitting in the hall outside the bathroom for nearly an hour.
Could she have drowned… (─.─||)
Xi Wei shook his head and quickly dismissed the absurd and ominous thought. The bath was only so deep; even if Lori was short, she wouldn’t drown.
Just as he was thinking, there was a movement at the bathroom door.
Lori, with a blushing face, walked out of the bathroom wearing an oversized nightgown.
Seeing Xi Wei sitting outside, Lori lowered her head guiltily, her fuzzy ears drooping.
Xi Wei’s eyes, however, lit up. He thought to himself, “I can’t take this!”
Lori was already exceptionally cute and charming. This hadn’t been as obvious when her face was dirty, but after bathing, her soft, slightly chubby cheeks were fully revealed.
It was evident that her brother treated her very well, at least not poorly in terms of food and drink.
Under the dim light of the magic lamp, her fair and delicate skin, her small and exquisite features, her willow-like eyebrows, and her moist, light red eyes conveyed a hint of timidity and innocence.
Coupled with her fluffy ears and tail, and the ill-fitting clothes revealing half of her carved ivory-like delicate neck and exquisite collarbone, she looked both charmingly cute and a little seductive…
Who wouldn’t be flustered by this?
Xi Wei pinched his thigh, forcing himself to calm down.
“Ahem—You look much more refreshed after your bath. Come with me, Mrs. Chris is already waiting for you in the hall.”
Saying this, Xi Wei naturally took the girl’s soft, boneless little hand and led her towards the Lord’s Hall.
Lori lowered her head and followed closely behind him. Her small, soft, and cool hand gently grasped one of Xi Wei’s fingers, and her fluffy tail wagged quietly.
…
Mrs. Chris was a somewhat portly middle-aged woman with a kind and smiling face.
After Xi Wei grew up, Mrs. Chris could have left the Jinshi Family with a generous reward, but she ultimately stayed on as a head maid.
Now, she had followed Xi Wei to Winter Fort and become the head manager of Winter Fort.
However, she had been relatively idle recently, only managing the less than ten servants Xi Wei had acquired yesterday.
She was only called now, reportedly to train a personal maid designated by Xi Wei.
But this was actually against the rules, as personal maids usually served the lady of the house. However, Mrs. Chris wouldn’t say much; rules were for the weak, and breaking them was also a manifestation of strength.
Soon, two figures, one tall and one short, appeared in Mrs. Chris’s line of sight. Her sharp eyes immediately noticed the small hand that Lori was holding, which Xi Wei was holding.
It seemed that young Master Xi Wei had finally reached an age where he was awakening to these matters.
Mrs. Chris chuckled, covering her mouth, and pretended not to see.
“Good evening, Young Master Xi Wei. Is this the prospective maid who needs training? She is indeed a beautiful and delicate Demi-human young girl.”
As she approached, Mrs. Chris’s bright eyes appraised Lori with admiration and scrutiny.
“That’s right. I brought her back from Dawn Town. She was almost beaten to death by a group of children when I met her.”
“So I hope you won’t be too harsh on her. I think you understand what I mean.”
Xi Wei nodded and brought Lori, who was hiding behind him and appeared somewhat frightened, forward.
Now was not the time to be soft-hearted; he still had a system mission to complete, and it wasn’t for massages or warming his bed.
“Where is the Priest?”
Xi Wei was a little confused. He found that only Mrs. Chris was in the hall. The Knight who had gone to find the Priest was standing next to Mrs. Chris, but the Priest herself was nowhere to be seen.
“My Lord, the Priests at the church refused to come and perform the Healing spell. Their Bishop even said…”
The Knight looked up at Xi Wei’s darkening expression, unsure if he should continue.
“Said what?”
“He said you were truly mad to ask the Shepherd of God to heal a Demi-human who is more lowly than a commoner.”
Hearing the Knight’s words, the girl beside him trembled all over. Xi Wei squeezed Lori’s hand comfortingly and then said to the Knight with a cold smile:
“They are unwilling to treat her, right? Fine. Go find Clemon now and have him take the cavalry to surround the church. I’ll be there shortly.”
“As you command.”
“If they dare to disobey my orders as soon as I take office, won’t they try to walk all over me if I let it slide?”
Xi Wei’s eyes were icy cold. He knew it was normal for Balda’s followers to be unwilling to treat Demi-humans, but they also had to consider who issued the order.
It was Xi Wei, the Lord of Eagle Territory.
The entire territory belonged to him. Now, they were unwilling to help a small Priest? This was simply showing no regard for him, the newly appointed Lord.
If this matter were to pass without consequence, the Lord’s authority would be completely undermined. How could he govern Eagle Territory then?
“It seems the people of the Holy See have become increasingly arrogant lately.”
A hint ofkilling intent flickered in Xi Wei’s eyes.
Others might be respectful of the Holy See, but that did not include his Jinshi Family, nor himself.
They were just a bunch of good-for-nothings who called themselves the Shepherd of God. If a war of faith were to break out, it would be nobles like them who would charge into battle. What connection would these people who only knew how to pray have to it? Did they really think a few Templar Knights made them so formidable?
Xi Wei, who had already clashed with the Son of Destiny and the Fourth Catastrophe, was not afraid of a few Templar Knights. How laughable.
However, the most pressing matter now was Lori’s injury. So, Xi Wei turned and walked into the study, and soon came out with a small, crystal-clear bottle.
This was Life Water, produced from the Life Spring in the Elven Royal Court. It was extremely precious and was the only thing on the Cain Continent with healing effects. However, its true purpose was to prolong life and remove hidden injuries.
There were no purely healing potions on the Cain Continent, only enhancing potions that increased healing speed. In his past life, players had also created blood-replenishing potions, but they all came with significant side effects, such as entering a state of continuous bleeding after a short period of life recovery.
In fact, this was normal. If there were truly such magical blood-replenishing potions, wouldn’t the Cain Continent be in chaos?
After all, this was a real world, and even the digitized information was merely a reference.
“Drink this.”
Xi Wei casually handed the small bottle of Life Water to Lori.
Lori looked at the crystal-clear, undoubtedly precious small bottle in her hand. She looked at Xi Wei with hesitation and unease. Seeing Xi Wei’s determined gaze, she carefully unscrewed the bottle and drank it down.
A cool liquid slid down her throat, and for a moment, it felt as if a warm current flowed through her entire body.
What a wonderful feeling that was!
In a daze, Lori felt as if she were a child again, nestled in her mother’s embrace, with the summer night breeze carrying the scent of wheat around her.
Every cell in her body seemed to be cheering and rejoicing. The scars on her body disappeared at a visible rate, and even her skin became smoother and more supple.
“Thank you… My Lord.”
Lori felt a warmth in her heart. Her gaze towards Xi Wei was deeply moved. Although she didn’t know what this small bottle of magical liquid was, it was clearly something very expensive, yet Xi Wei had given it to her without hesitation.
Xi Wei nodded with satisfaction. The effect of this Life Water was immediate. If it were on Blue Star in his previous life, it would probably be fiercely competed for by those women at all costs.
Now that Lori’s injuries were healed, it was time for him to settle accounts with those Priests.
“Then I’ll leave Lori in your care, Mrs. Chris. I have some matters to attend to.”
“Please rest assured, Young Master Xi Wei. When you return tonight, you will receive a well-behaved and lovely maid.”
Xi Wei grinned at this, nodded slightly to Lori and Mrs. Chris, and then donned his armor before leaving the castle hall.
After watching Xi Wei leave, Mrs. Chris looked at Lori with affection and said with a smile:
“Lord Xi Wei seems to like you very much. He is a good person. You should be well-behaved and not cause him any trouble.”
Hearing Mrs. Chris say this, Lori’s expression turned somewhat bewildered.
Like her? Could she truly receive such a luxurious thing?
But what were her feelings towards the Lord?
She asked herself, her feelings towards the Lord were more of gratitude and reverence. Everyone had a tendency to admire strength, and she was no exception, not to mention that he was her savior.
However, she dared not develop deeper feelings. It wasn’t that she was unwilling, but rather due to inferiority.
Lori tightly gripped the bottle that had held the Life Water in her hand. Many thoughts flashed through her mind. Soon, she returned to her senses and nodded to Mrs. Chris.
She didn’t feel contempt or disgust from the kind Mrs. Chris, which greatly eased her previously anxious mood.
