Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
“Connie, what’s going on?”
Xi Wei’s voice echoed from the room.
“Master, that good-for-nothing King is bringing you food~” Connie deliberately spoke loudly, feeling the princess on her shoulder trembling in fear.
“Hee hee~” The Silly Dragon grinned mischievously.
“What food? To be honest, the chefs of this Medon Empire are really not good. Loli’s flower cakes are much tastier…”
“Yes, yes, yes.” Connie carried Jessica into the room and, with a shoulder throw, tossed the princess onto the soft, large bed. The princess immediately cowered into a ball like a cooked shrimp.
“You only have Sister Loli’s honey-glazed flower cakes in your eyes, I understand~”
“Actually, ordinary flower cakes are also good.”
Xi Wei looked at Connie helplessly. This Silly Dragon was getting bolder and bolder. It was probably because she had ridden him too much, and now she dared to tease him, her Dragon Lord.
“This is the food you call it?” He pointed a finger at the Medon princess, who was cowering on the bed, trembling.
It was more like Connie’s food; he didn’t eat humans.
“Yes, yes, it’s food~” Connie blinked her innocent big eyes, looking as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “When you were with Sister Loli before, didn’t you catch and bite her too?”
“Pfft—” The mouthful of tea Xi Wei had just drunk spewed out.
Just as he was about to properly explain to Connie what a tense and exciting Gwent match was, the Medon princess’s mournful plea suddenly came from the bed:
“Please, Your Majesty Winter, can you not eat me? I am willing to be your ox or horse, your servant, as long as… as long as I can live.”
Xi Wei glanced at the princess, who was trembling in fear, and then glared fiercely at Connie.
It was as if he were saying, “Look how scared you’ve made her.”
Connie, however, seemed unfazed. She even playfully stuck out her small tongue at Xi Wei.
“I won’t eat you.” Xi Wei’s expression turned serious and majestic. He reprimanded, “Sit up and speak. Don’t cower there. You’re a princess of a nation; what does that make you look like?”
Jessica whimpered, holding her head in her hands, startled by the King of Winter’s roar.
But she immediately sat up obediently.
She placed her hands neatly on her knees, raised her head and chest, revealing her delicate collarbone, and made her chest appear as full as possible.
This was what Heilna had told her.
She said that raising her head and chest would make her look more feminine.
Perhaps this way, the King of Winter would like her more?
Jessica did not understand the logic behind it.
She just wanted to survive for as long as possible.
“Very good.” Xi Wei clapped his hands in satisfaction.
He liked obedient people.
In the Medon princess’s clear eyes, he saw only fear and obedience.
If the second princess of the Elves had been this obedient back then.
She probably wouldn’t have had her limbs broken and suffered such a ordeal.
“Now, I will ask, and you will answer. Do you understand?”
“Un… understand.” Jessica nodded obediently.
“What are your thoughts on the Medon Empire?” Xi Wei gazed into Jessica’s eyes.
The girl didn’t know why the King of Winter would ask this. Heilna had also taught her how to respond to the questions the King of Winter might ask.
Some of them were related to national development.
Usually, they were all praise for the Medon Empire.
Things like having a promising future, being able to provide many resources for the Wintery Empire, and the citizens being happy and healthy…
She subconsciously wanted to use those phrases.
But as she met the King of Winter’s majestic, lion-like gaze, her mind went blank, and her true thoughts blurted out:
“The royal family is corrupt, and the people are suffering.”
Xi Wei made no comment on the Medon princess’s answer. He rubbed his hands together, and his right foot, with his leg crossed, tapped rhythmically on the ground.
“Second question,” he said. “Do you hate your brother?”
Faced with this question,
Jessica became flustered.
Heilna had listed many questions that the King of Winter might ask.
But this one was not among them.
Howard had not told her about this either.
She lowered her gaze, various thoughts flashing through her mind.
If she said she hated him.
Would the King of Winter tell Howard about it, and would she ultimately be brutally beaten to death by that cruel brother?
If she said she didn’t hate him.
Would the King of Winter think she would have divided loyalties in the future and have her executed as well?
“You only need to answer Me, your most genuine inner thought.”
His voice was deep, with a hint of bewitching allure at the end.
Jessica paused. She summoned her courage and looked at the King of Winter, but she couldn’t see through his thoughts. Those eyes were neither warm nor cold, like a calm abyss. Before you jumped in, you would never know how deep it was.
She bit her lip, and a fierce hatred erupted in her amethyst-like eyes. Even she was surprised by the hatred within her. Gritting her teeth, she almost squeezed the word “hate” out of her mouth.
Speaking that word seemed to deplete all her strength. Her once straight back hunched again as if a heavy burden was pressing down on her. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and waited for death.
There was no blade at her throat.
Nor did she hear the King of Winter’s reprimand.
The air became deathly silent.
After a while,
Jessica cautiously opened one eye.
To her surprise, the King of Winter on the opposite side was still looking at her calmly. The only difference was that the girl who had carried her in earlier was now nestled in the King of Winter’s arms.
A pair of dragon horns had appeared on her head at some point. The King of Winter was stroking those dragon horns like he was petting a cat. The little girl in his arms looked as if she was enjoying it, her eyes closed comfortably.
“I grant you a sword. Do you dare to kill your brother?!”
The King of Winter’s lips moved, but no sound was emitted. However, this sentence reached her ears like a thunderclap.
Jessica noticed.
A semi-circular Azure barrier had already enveloped the surroundings. That was a soundproofing spell array.
Suddenly, she realized what the King of Winter was probably planning to do.
This Medon princess, who had suffered hardships since childhood, clenched her fists, her body trembling slightly. She didn’t keep Xi Wei waiting for long. She finally raised her head, her turbulent emotions completely calmed.
Jessica looked at the King of Winter opposite her with firm eyes and slowly uttered a single word.
…
…
At midnight, the sound of Gwent could be heard from the King of Winter’s room, along with the Medon princess’s surprised cheers after winning a round.
The scouts who had been specifically sent to watch their every move immediately showed lecherous smiles.
“Brothers, the King of Winter has started!”
“Is this sound a bit too exaggerated? It feels a bit fake?”
“I wonder how long our Medon princess can last. Maybe we’ll have to collect her corpse the next morning, kekeke…”
“Sigh, we’re such workaholics, having to listen to this late at night. Alright, we can go report to His Majesty.”
The scouts’ mission was complete, and they all withdrew.
But not all scouts went to report to the King of Medon.
One of them, under the cover of night, climbed over the city walls.
He sneaked into the small woods near the Royal City and found the warhorse he had prepared in advance.
Then, he mounted the horse and galloped away.
