Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 684: Orc Siege
On the walls of Erlendara.
The City Lord, Source Mage Blitz, stood in the cold wind, frowning at the foul stench carried by it.
This powerful mage, who had guarded the Kalun border for a full 123 years, felt he should have some perfume to spray on the city walls.
The smell was just too awful.
Blitz’s family had guarded this place for generations, and no one had ever been able to harm Kalun in the slightest.
The Giant Golem was the hardest shield in his hands, and the Magic Cannons on the city walls were the sharpest swords.
“Kreee!”
A falcon’s cry rang out, and a falcon made of black mist transformed into a black-robed mage who landed beside Blitz.
He knelt on one knee and respectfully reported:
“My Lord, scouts have confirmed it. A full 120,000 orc legion.”
“This cannot be the Beast King’s entire fighting force.”
Blitz’s gaze was like a torch, intensely fixed on the crimson orc king’s tent at the center.
“Kulkul has led the orcs for over 400 years. His trump cards are definitely not just this. What he’s revealed now is only what he’s willing to let us see.”
“This is a good thing, my Lord.” The black-robed mage clasped his hands and stood behind Blitz, his tone contemptuous. “Our Erlendara hasn’t experienced war for a long time. I hear some nearby countries have been restless lately. It’s time to show them the blade of the Alchemy Kingdom, starting with… crushing these orcs!”
“I have always been very confident in our country’s alchemy technology,” Blitz said with a smile, then his expression turned serious. “But we must also respect the rules of this continent. Legends are called legends because each one lives a long time, until they become legend. And the key to living long is being strong and smart enough!”
The black-robed mage lowered his head, accepting Blitz’s teachings and no longer speaking boastfully.
“Go prepare. These orcs are already restless.”
“Yes—!”
Inside the walls of Erlendara, all soldiers and mages were in a state of high alert at their posts. Strong soldiers pushed the Magic Cannons to the launch ports. Logistics Soldiers began reinforcing the Magic Cannons to prevent them from breaking free of the launch racks during firing, while also bringing enough Magic Crystals for use. Knights patrolled all over the city walls, inspecting the soldiers’ equipment and work. Mages and Alchemists shuttled through the tall Giant Golems, checking every critical joint via spiral staircases to ensure stable Magic Output and that the Giant Golems could perform their roles in the upcoming battle.
Earth Mages continued to reinforce the city walls. At the city gate, ten layers of portcullis were lowered, making the entire city impregnable.
In the central plaza of Erlendara.
One hundred and eight Maguses stood in a specific formation on a spell array etched with moon and star patterns.
They raised their staffs and chanted in unison.
After a while.
Only a “buzz—” was heard.
The 108 staffs shot out profound magic lasers that converged to form a torrent of magic power, charging a statue resembling a sorceress in the center of the plaza.
The sorceress statue held a Book of Knowledge in her left hand and pointed to the sky with her right.
A beam of faint blue light erupted from her fingertip and shot towards the sky.
It then transformed into a semicircular shield that protected the entire Erlendara.
Champion Knight Sigman led the Knight Legion to defend the front of the plaza, protecting the Maguses within.
He gripped his sword with both hands, his gaze fixed on the direction of the city gate. The black legion behind him was like an iron wall.
If anyone wanted to harm the Maguses supporting the shield, they would have to push down this iron wall first.
The preparations were complete. Neither side showed fear, only killing intent.
The orcs were driven by their racial traits, while Erlendara’s soldiers were proud of their country and its alchemy technology.
All of Erlendara’s Magic Cannons entered their launch ports. Giant Golems raised their massive shields, gripping the Giant Sword behind them with their right hands—a super-equipment formed from obsidian and thousands of spell arrays, possessing world-destroying power.
The movements from the city walls further agitated the orcs below.
The melody of war resounded, the roars of orcs and the clanging of armor blending together.
Kulkul’s blood-red eyes gazed at the silver-white city wall made of Golem Soldiers. To take this city in one fell swoop, he had prepared for half a month at the city walls. The first week was for digging tunnels and preparing the sacrificial site. The second week was for gradually reinforcing the troops outside Erlendara’s walls, giving the humans of Erlendara the illusion that the orc legion was gradually gathering.
Now the sacrifice was complete.
But it was not yet time to reveal the trump card.
First, he needed to let the orcs go up and sacrifice themselves, continuing to numb the nerves of the Erlendara garrison and give them the illusion that they could slaughter the orc legion at will.
Giant siege towers advanced, loaded with a large number of cannon fodder made up of Goblins and Trolls.
“Thump, thump, thump—!”
These cannon fodder orcs, enhanced by a berserk spell, rhythmically struck their shields with their swords.
The berserk mages behind them chanted bizarre melodies, danced in ways normal humans couldn’t understand, and were surrounded by leaping, clawing totems.
“Ancestral Blessing!! Long live Sotan-Trik!”
Some orcs roared loudly, throwing their weapons into the air.
“Hoo-ha!! Orcs are invincible!!”
The chaotic roars pierced the sky, as if trying to flip it over.
The Behemoth Legion hid behind the giant towers, and they suddenly accelerated, pushing the siege towers.
“Boom, boom, boom—!!” Dust and sand flew wildly, and the earth trembled and wailed.
Dense orcs surged towards Erlendara’s city walls like a tide.
The Giant Golems, which had been standing still, finally moved.
On the front wall.
Ten Giant Golems swung their obsidian giant swords downwards.
Thousands of spell arrays instantly activated, as if carving crimson patterns onto the black sword blades.
The sword body radiated scorching flames, unleashing a massive blade of fire.
“Boom—!”
The flame blade landed, leaving only scorched earth in its wake, creating a沟壑 filled with scattered embers.
It was like a wound branded onto the earth.
Countless orcs died tragically in this single attack.
But the subsequent troops continued to charge forward, their marching speed increasing!
The Giant Golems retracted their swords, holding them in front of them in a charging state. In the previous wave of attacks, twenty of the giant towers pushed out by the orcs had been chopped down to only five. They continued forward without fear, but what awaited them were the dense, glowing muzzles of the cannons on Erlendara’s walls.
“Swish, swish, swish—!”
Erlendara’s soldiers had no arrows.
They had only countless Magic Cannons, spreading upwards from the middle of the city wall, numbering in the thousands.
Interwoven beams of magic light shredded the orcs’ giant towers and the cannon fodder soldiers on them. The first wave of the orc legion disintegrated into dust, like thunder without rain.
