Chapter 400: The Final Battle (16)
“O’Farrell, it’s your turn to enter the stage.”
Upon hearing Yulian’s order, O’Farrell took a deep breath and stood up.
The battlefield’s atmosphere, the smell of scorching, the smell of blood, the smell of death, and some disgusting odor.
It was nauseating.
In the sky, the strange snowflakes began to fall again. They were not cold, nor were they white like snow. Instead, they had a dirty, yellowish hue, and as far as the eye could see, these things looked like harbingers of death, burying all life mercilessly within them.
“Hoo!!”
Metal wings instantly spread out behind O’Farrell. She gritted her teeth, glanced at the pillar of light in the distance at the horizon, and then flew into the air. After circling once in the air, as if she had made up her mind, she suddenly sped forward.
Along the way, O’Farrell encountered no resistance. Most of the United Nations Army had already been completely wiped out by Lindelot and the others. Although the United Nations Army’s ground forces temporarily regained their fighting spirit after the appearance of the combat fleet, their will to fight had been completely extinguished with the destruction of the two giant warships. Therefore, they had no other way but to defend the portal to the death.
“Retreat?”
Xi De Wei stopped and looked with slight surprise at Semiya, who was not far away.
“Is Yulian out of his mind? We’ve already fought our way this far, and he’s telling us to retreat?”
Not far away, the giant shining pillar of light could already be seen. It didn’t seem that big from a distance, but it was truly spectacular up close. Xi De Wei was now completely familiar with these new toys of hers, and fighting with them was incredibly smooth. Coordinating with the ground troops was effortless. It was pathetic that the United Nations Army’s ground troops were being pushed back by their own side, yet they were struggling to find any effective means to resist the enemy’s attacks. The soldiers under Xi De Wei’s command perfectly obeyed every order, their movements precise to the centimeter, and they feared neither death nor injury. Facing such troops was already a difficult task.
“This is Father’s order.”
Semiya offered no further explanation, or rather, she saw no need for it.
“But didn’t he forget that our ultimate goal is to destroy this damn portal?”
Xi De Wei raised an eyebrow. Lindelot and Messia had already retreated, and now only the two of them remained ahead. If they retreated, who would stay?
“Father has already found someone.”
After saying this, Semiya looked up.
A black shadow flashed rapidly between the two, accompanied by wind and dust.
“Is it her?”
Xi De Wei frowned. Although her eyes saw nothing, she had her own unique way of knowing.
“Can she do it? This rookie who has barely been on the battlefield a few times.”
“No need to worry, Sister Xi De Wei.”
Semiya chuckled lightly, then waved her hand. The black waves immediately retreated, rewinding like a movie and returning to the girl’s feet and disappearing. The corpses wrapped within them, having lost their external support, fell to the ground again, transforming back into what they were meant to be.
“Father said that the things that determine the outcome of a war are always fought outside the battlefield.”
“Mysterious and strange.”
Xi De Wei pouted. She didn’t disagree with Yulian’s statement, she simply didn’t like him. This was also one of the reasons why Xi De Wei had no intention of getting along with Yulian until now. Of course, the biggest reason was that he had stolen Lindelot. For that alone, Xi De Wei thought she was very generous for not dismembering him into eighty pieces. As for obeying his orders? Don’t even think about it! And if he dared to get into her bed, Xi De Wei would definitely kick him out!!
Alright, considering the disparity in their strength, Xi De Wei might not be able to kick him out. But she could guarantee that if that damned man dared to make a move on her, she would just commit suicide.
Perhaps due to their past grievances, Xi De Wei and Yulian had always disliked each other. Xi De Wei always looked at Yulian as if he were her father’s murderer. Although she didn’t show him a scowl now for Lindelot’s sake, she still didn’t say much. As for Yulian, he was also uninterested in Xi De Wei, teasing anyone but her. He had even rejected Lindelot’s recommendation back then.
However, although Xi De Wei’s expression was impassive and her tone complained, her actions represented her attitude. The girl pressed her right hand downward, and the soldiers who were advancing immediately stopped. They uniformly raised their guns and aimed them at their own heads.
“Bang!!!”
A muffled gunshot rang out. Xi De Wei turned around and walked away without looking at the corpses on the ground. Semiya lightly patted the Nightmare beneath her, and with a playful smile, looked at Xi De Wei.
“Sister Xi De Wei, do you want to go together?”
“No need, I have legs.”
Shortly after the two turned and left, O’Farrell arrived at the front line.
It had to be said that, just as Xi De Wei had said, O’Farrell lacked battlefield experience. Before the battle began, she could come up with a long list of countermeasures, but once on the battlefield, she immediately didn’t know what to do. It was the same now. Facing the enemy’s attacks, O’Farrell had no intention of dodging. She broke through the enemy’s firepower line almost head-on and then landed in front of the portal.
The intense firepower struck O’Farrell’s armor, making her feel overwhelmed. If it weren’t for her Ghostly Attribute and Phantom Armor, she would have collapsed long ago. In fact, there was already a premonition when she landed.
“Boom!!”
The girl, enveloped by three pairs of black metal wings, landed heavily on the ground. The surrounding gunfire momentarily subsided, then erupted again. But this time, it was immediately interrupted – because from the smoke, a black whip shot out and struck heavily. After circling once, it stopped. But by then, the sound of gunfire could no longer be heard. Those unfortunate beings had either been blown away or cut in half in the first round, so there was no need to say more.
“Hoo…”
O’Farrell stood up and swung the whip in her hand. As time went on, she became more familiar with combat. At least in terms of controlling her strength, O’Farrell had made considerable progress.
However, this was not her main purpose at the moment.
Thinking of this, O’Farrell looked up.
Not far from her was the portal, emitting a brilliant light.
And in front of the portal, four Golems, each over ten meters tall, stood quietly and silently.
They were her enemies.
O’Farrell raised her whip, and at the same time, the four giant Golems raised their arms. The dark gun barrels on them began to rotate, and then countless tongues of flame erupted.
“The battle has begun.”
Yulian stopped. He lowered his head and looked at a corpse lying in front of him. It was the corpse of a United Nations soldier. Half of his head was blown off, and he was so bloody and mangled that his appearance was unrecognizable.
“Then, it’s time for me to act too. O’Farrell, do a good job of your promising role as an MT. The outcome of the war has always been decided outside the battlefield.”
Saying this, Yulian looked up at the sky and then reached out his hand, snapping his fingers.
“Charlotte, awaken our ‘child’.”
No one answered.
An invisible ripple passed through the air, almost unnoticed by anyone.
No one.
“What’s happening up ahead?”
At this moment, beneath the portal, everyone was anxiously watching the intense flames of battle on the front line, whispering and discussing.
“Will we fail? This situation is completely unexpected.”
“No, we won’t fail. This isn’t the end, we still have hope!!”
“Make way, make way!!!”
Just then, a battlefield medic in white clothes rushed in with a stretcher. On the stretcher lay a person tossing and turning restlessly – it was the pilot captured by Yulian earlier.
“Doctor, who is he? What happened?”
“He is a very important intelligence operative. He suddenly fell ill. We had to transfer him here. We need assistance! He looks a bit strange, and we need to conduct a thorough and comprehensive examination. This is the General’s order, he absolutely cannot die!”
“Yes!!”
“Ugh…!”
Inside the tent, the pilot lay on a simple bed, clutching his head in agony and rolling around. He felt something as if it were moving inside his brain, causing him unbearable pain. What was happening? Damn it, why was this happening? Wait, where is this? The rear? How did I get to the rear? Wasn’t I captured by those Otherworld people? That’s right, I was captured by them, and then, and then there was a man – what did he do? And there was a woman, what did she do? What did she put into my head? My head hurts so much, my throat feels so uncomfortable—!!
“Sir, please pull yourself together, sir?”
A nurse walked into the tent. She skillfully took out a syringe and approached the pilot.
“Injecting this will make you feel better.”
“No, no, I, I—Uwah!!”
As he said this, the pilot suddenly sat up and opened his mouth as if to vomit.
Normally, he would have vomited stomach contents or something foul. However, what came out of his mouth was not that.
A smooth, wet, breadstick-sized worm suddenly emerged from his mouth. It raised its head, and the soft tentacles in front made a “dada” sound. Then, it suddenly leaped upwards, pouncing on the nurse in front of him.
“Yaa—!!”
Before the nurse’s scream was fully uttered, she was completely silenced by the worm. The worm’s body was still in the pilot’s mouth, but its head had already entered the nurse’s mouth. At first, the unfortunate woman tried to struggle, but soon, her eyes rolled back, she stopped moving, and stood there quietly like a walking dead person. Then, the worm swiftly retracted and returned to the man’s body.
“What happened?”
Just then, two fully armed soldiers also rushed in. But all they saw were two people standing there blankly.
“Nothing—Sir.”
The nurse turned around, shook her head, her voice a little hoarse.
“It was my mistake, so—excuse me.”
“It’s fine if you’re alright.”
Hearing her answer, the two soldiers shrugged. They turned around, about to leave, but at that moment, two hands suddenly pressed on their shoulders.
“However, now, we need your help with something.”
“What is it?”
The two soldiers turned around, but all they saw were the nurse and the pilot with their mouths wide open.
