Marrying the Villainess Noblewoman at the Start – Chapter 206

This was probably the most chaotic battle that Lauri had fought since leaving Graythorn Territory. Massive monsters, a tumultuous crowd, and desperate howls filled the entire battlefield.

After the Fang Ge soldiers rushed into the Graythorn camp, Lauri felt some regret, as their numbers were far greater than he had anticipated.

It was unclear whether that Fang Ge had gathered all the humans in the surrounding areas at the Golden Ear Plains, but even with many transformed into monsters behind the Fang Ge army, many becoming food for the monsters, and many dying under cannon fire, the number of those rushing into the Graythorn camp far exceeded what the camp could withstand.

Constantly, Graythorn soldiers were attempting to direct and control the Fang Ge soldiers, but those Fang Ge soldiers were outright refusing to take orders, probably because they had received no military training at all; they couldn’t even form basic formations.

Moreover, these soldiers were already completely dazed by fear. Even upon reaching the Graythorn camp, they did not stop. Instead, they continued to flee toward the rear of the camp.

When they escaped to the logistical camp behind, these Fang Ge soldiers seemed to trigger the instinct to plunder in fear, beginning to loot the supply camp and then flee after robbing.

These could no longer be considered soldiers; they could only be seen as a group of chaotic refugees.

The cooks responsible for logistics quickly reacted, donning armor and forming a human wall. Anyone who dared to rob would be kicked away, but some fierce soldiers had lost their sanity and drew their firearms, shooting at the cooks.

The entire rear camp was thrown into chaos.

A demon clan scout who had already climbed up onto Noam’s back informed Noam about the situation in the rear. As the only one who retained their self and sanity among the Demon God Offspring, and as the brains of these monsters, Noam opened all of their mouths and whispered, “Humans, just like this, ugly, filthy, need purification.”

Even though it was a whisper, Noam’s words resonated throughout the entire battlefield, echoing in everyone’s minds.

Hearing that the logistical camp in the rear was already in turmoil, Lauri could only dispatch more soldiers to fire into the air, trying to drive away those creating chaos and looting in the logistical camp.

Those people, upon seeing soldiers arrive, were filled with dread and immediately fled with the food they had stolen, avoiding further chaos.

Lauri finally let out a long breath; at least it hadn’t escalated into widespread gunfire, otherwise it would have been hard to absolve himself for allowing the Fang Ge army to enter.

With the rear in chaos, the front battlefield was not in a much better state. They completely lacked knowledge of the enemy’s strengths and weaknesses; the soldiers sent to help with the rear faced numerous losses. Although there was cannon support, the number of enemy monsters was continually increasing.

Some monsters had grown to several meters tall by feeding on humans and corpses, rampaging across the battlefield like a fierce tide. Without cannon fire to impede them, they could easily crush the Graythorn army.

Hammond, braving the cannon fire, wielded a spear in one hand and a sword in the other, charging toward a gigantic monster under the covering fire of rear firearms.

He pierced the monster’s hoof with a molten spear, pinning the massive creature firmly to the ground. Then, he swung his molten sword, stabbing into the monster’s leg, circling around to sever its leg.

The enormous monster howled in pain, having lost a leg, and toppled helplessly to the ground.

Darsi, providing cover from a distance, remarked, “Captain Hammond is truly amazing!”

This transcended mere bravery; it was pure skill and audacity. Even Lind had to marvel at this Northern Border hero.

Many professionals on the same level as Hammond dared not engage in close combat with such a monster.

The monsters’ movements became increasingly violent. Their tiny tentacles flailed wildly, and after Hammond’s attack, he quickly retreated.

However, just as Hammond ran away, numerous humans, covered in sludge, approached the monster uncontrollably, offering themselves as sacrifices for the monster to consume.

After finishing their feast, the monster’s leg was regenerating at a visibly rapid pace.

“These guys…”

Hammond cursed in despair. Those humans covered in sludge not only assisted the monsters’ advance but also became supplies for the monsters to recover their injuries.

Combined with their somewhat mentally disturbing appearance, many units with insufficient resolve were already unable to withstand the pressure.

Cannon fire continued to resound throughout the camp, the barrels burning red for the first time; the cannons in Graywhite Territory had never faced such pressure, and now they were all overworked.

Even Lauri said they had to hold this wave and not worry about the subsequent maintenance of the cannons and firing intervals.

If these monsters broke through Graywhite Territory’s defenses at Golden Ear Plains and reached the rear, the consequences would be unimaginable; reinforcing the already built defensive line was the best plan Lauri could think of.

Moreover, Lauri had noticed that these monsters seemed intent on annihilating the main forces of Graywhite Territory here, so they didn’t run amok, instead advancing gradually and cohesively.

The forms of these monsters also appeared uncertain; many had uneven numbers of hooves, some were even of different lengths, tumbling to the ground and crawling slowly.

Even so, Lauri felt tremendous pressure.

This was the first time the Graywhite army, which had always relied on its equipment advantage to crush its enemies, faced such a situation.

Additionally, those giant meatball monsters seemed to possess a mind-affecting ability. Only close combatants like Hammond could quickly eliminate those monsters with their molten cutting swords, but the closer one got to those monsters, the more susceptible one was to madness. Several knights had already lost their sanity and fled back.

Lauri was unsure if the enemy truly had this ability, but even without it, facing such monsters twisted his own mind.

For the first time since the start of the war, the Graywhite army, which had never lost, faced a situation of collapse. Their opponents were no longer humans; the soldiers of Graywhite Territory did not shatter at the first touch against these completely irrational monsters; their quality was already remarkably high.

“As humans, you are indeed strong, but unfortunately, what you face are true gods!”

The several mouths of the giant monster that Noam had transformed into opened simultaneously, and these words seemed to resonate not through physical transmission but echoed in the minds of everyone on the battlefield.

“Escape! Escape! Despicable humans are meant to serve as sacrifices for the revival of the Demon God! But I will grant you respect, allowing you to become and serve as warriors under the Demon God, accepting the baptism of sacred blood!”

Saying this, Noam continued to spew forth black blood.

The frontline collapsed; the situation Lauri feared most had arisen.

Moreover, that sludge called sacred blood could even resurrect the dead, letting corpses rise as part of them.

The enemy’s numbers were overwhelming; cannon fire could no longer cover the entire battlefield, with sludge and monsters surging like a tidal wave.

This was no ordinary battle; the current situation surpassed everyone’s expectations. Even the invincible Graywhite soldiers finally broke down under such circumstances, desperately fleeing backward.

The Graywhite army, which had never experienced mass defeat, faced their first collapse. Even while fighting and retreating, they could not stop those meatball monsters and sludge-covered creatures.

Only elite forces like Hammond and Darsi remained to assist with the rear guard.

But Hammond, due to his deep rear guard position, was caught by a Sludge Monster that grabbed his arm wielding the molten cutting sword. Even through armor, Hammond could distinctly feel the burning sensation radiating from his arm.

“Merely humans, barely so; before the power of the gods, they are nothing more than insects shaking a tree!”

Noam’s soul-shaking voice threw the battlefield into chaos once more. Even Hammond found himself in despair, thinking he might have to sacrifice himself, regretting that he could not witness the Northern Border’s reunification again.

Just then, amidst the chaotic battlefield, besides Noam’s resonating voice, a clear voice emerged in the ear of a soldier who could hardly hear a word from his comrades: “Don’t underestimate humanity! You monsters!”

A bright voice pierced through the air, as if dawn was breaking through the deep darkness, causing everyone on the battlefield, including the monsters, to freeze for a moment.

Though it sounded like it came from right beside them, everyone instinctively turned toward the direction of the voice, where Isha was leading a bunch of resistance fighters equipped with old gear charging out from the rear of the camp, including many Doug Army soldiers who had fled in the earlier chaos.
