“Why aren’t you moving? This cannon hasn’t misfired, fire it quickly!”
Darsi shouted towards the artillery camp while using a special ray gun to blast the leg of a small Demon God Offspring.
“No… Captain, it’s the Sludge Container’s magic power that has run out! We’ve used up the spares too!”
This was the first time Darsi had witnessed the magic power of the Sludge Container being depleted by a magical cannon, but he quickly reacted and shouted, “Then abandon the cannon and cover the knights in front with ray guns!”
They were now truly out of ammo and supplies. Although the monster offensive from the Demon Clan wasn’t as fierce as before, it seemed that with fewer monsters to control, they had started to pull back. Once injured, the monsters would retreat to the back, allowing the Sludge Monsters made from humans to take cover while the injured monsters fed on them to recover rapidly.
At the Graythorn Territory camp, the morale of the people back to life thanks to Isha was on the brink of collapse.
At that moment, a roar rang out from the camp: “Reinforcements have arrived! The Lord Governor’s reinforcements are here!”
This roar seemed to vent all the despair and anger endured over the past days.
As soon as these words were spoken, the entire camp erupted again into excitement.
Lauri, inside the tent, finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Sure enough, not long after, fully armed knights with new equipment galloped into the camp, followed by a group of soldiers who quickly made their way to the front lines.
These soldiers didn’t march in the way the old memory remembered, but they still appeared spirited, their full set of equipment making them look even more imposing than usual.
Seeing the arrival of these comrades, many of the soldiers still holding out in defense collapsed, completely relaxing the tightly wound nerves that had been built up over time.
This was a profound trust.
On the train, the knights had already heard about the monsters on the Golden Spike Plains, but upon seeing them for the first time, the leading Susan was startled. However, seeing the fallen injured in the camp and the soldiers engaging the monsters not far away, Susan drew her melting sword and led the knights out.
The arriving soldiers quickly took over the injured and the cannons, bringing a new batch of Sludge Containers.
Soon, the cannons in the camp roared back to life.
Although Lind had not yet arrived, the advanced troops had already made it clear that Lind was well-prepared; just looking at the knights led by Susan confirmed it.
Before the charge, the knights took out Holy Water, splashed it on their armor, and then charged out. The melting swords they used were not standard versions, and judging by the dazzling light, their power was definitely higher than that of regular melting swords.
Facing regular Sludge Monsters was as easy as cutting tofu.
Hammond, having just completed the handover with this group of knights, looked at their equipment enviously. It was clear that these knights were the elite among the elite, armed to the teeth—probably the Lord Governor’s Royal Guards.
Never did he think that the Lord Governor would send his Royal Guards ahead to support. Hammond felt an immense sense of reassurance.
With Susan leading the Royal Guard’s reinforcement, despite many magical cannons being rendered inoperable, the front lines surprisingly began to push back.
While the Royal Guards were not only armed to the teeth but also treated Holy Water like inexpensive grenades, the main reason the front line could push back was that most of the Demon God Offspring had already been eliminated. The Royal Guards did not have to face the tidal wave of monsters as before.
Lind also arrived at the camp shortly after.
Lauri, White, and Isha hurried out to greet him. They had just wanted to salute, but Lind waved them off, saying, “Let’s get down to business.”
Lauri nodded and began to escort Lind and Lena around the camp.
Many soldiers and commanders, upon hearing that Lind and Lena had arrived, were filled with excitement that was hard to describe. Some wounded soldiers dragged themselves to bow to Lind but were pressed back on the spot by Lind, who urged them to focus on healing.
Quickly, the morale in the camp began to surge again. Besides Lind’s arrival being a reason, another reason was the steady influx of supplies being delivered, and more soldiers were joining the battle to replace the First Army Group and Third Army Group.
The reassuring sounds of cannons gradually became dense again.
While inspecting the territory and boosting morale, Lind asked, “What is the current situation?”
“The casualties are quite heavy, but most can still fight. However, due to the other side’s monsters attacking day and night in waves, most of our soldiers are exhausted. At first, we could maintain two shifts for defense, but later the defensive layout got all messed up.”
One must admit, under such circumstances, maintaining the front line was no small feat for Lauri. It was evident from the dark circles under his eyes how tired he was.
“I see. This time I have brought plenty of Holy Water, aiming to eliminate all these monsters here. You should take a break for a while; there are still big battles ahead.”
Hearing this, Lauri let out a long sigh of relief, finally able to rest assured.
Subsequently, Lind and Lena didn’t get the chance to catch up with Isha properly before immediately taking over the battlefield command. Although Lind lacked experience in commanding large-scale military operations, Lena’s battlefield instincts were highly acute, and there were many experienced staff officers present, so pushing the front line back slowly was not a problem.
Lind was very clear on his position, avoiding flashy operations. His main role was more of a morale booster, as well as making decisions on critical situations. A good leader is one who can take responsibility for their subordinates, and this position had previously been held by Lauri; it was now Lind’s turn.
Winning would reflect the courage of the soldiers, while losing would indicate problems in Lind’s command. It was only when this understanding was communicated that the soldiers at the front would execute their orders with peace of mind.
Tia, accompanied by Elves and Druids, arrived on the hillside behind the battlefield, carefully observing the monsters.
When Tia personally saw these monsters, she found it even harder to comprehend how the Graywhite Territory’s army had fought against such monsters on the Golden Spike Plains.
Twisted, terrifying, capable of recovering rapidly by devouring sacrifices.
“Is there any record of this in Elven history?”
Tia turned to ask the Druid beside her.
After carefully observing the characteristics of these monsters, the Druid Elder next to Tia said, “Your Highness, I’m sorry, but at least in my memory, I’ve never seen such monsters. However, throughout the long history of the Elves, I do recall a clue.”
“Look at the land under those fallen monsters; it is indeed unable to nurture Nature Spirits. In the early teachings of the Nature God, there were records of blood from similar monsters polluting the land, similar to the situation now.”
“However, the records were more about how to revitalize the ‘polluted’ land. As for the specific circumstances of the monsters, the records do not describe it, and as time has passed, these records have become quite vague.”
After all, these records were early writings for the Elves, nearly unverifiable in their state.
However, Tia quickly realized something and asked, “So this means that similar monsters have appeared before?”
“No, Your Highness. Even if similar monsters appeared, they wouldn’t necessarily be the same. It can only be said that the ‘polluting’ monsters at that time had characteristics similar to the ones we see now.”
The Elves were indeed quite rigorous in academic rigor. As for the specific conditions, the Druids said they would have to go back and consult some materials.
Watching the monsters on the battlefield, Tia internally began to compare whether the Elves’ High Ger Empire could withstand such monsters.
With each subsequent wave of reinforcements joining, the situation at the Graywhite Territory’s position had stabilized. Humans were indeed gradually pushing these monsters back and even eliminating them.
Though there were no outright victories against the Demon Clan, they were progressively regaining control of the battlefield, at least no longer only in a defensive position.
But Lind did not dare to relax his vigilance at all because Lucanus had received intelligence that the Demon Clan’s reinforcements were also entering the fray.
