Marrying the Villainess Noblewoman at the Start – Chapter 215

This was the first time Doug watched the transformation of a Demon Clan into a monster up close.

Rather than saying it was a transformation into a monster, it was more accurate to say that the monster was resurfacing from within the Demon’s body, causing the flesh to explode outward like a burst of clothing, leaving debris everywhere. Beneath Doug’s feet were red and yellow remnants, along with green Demon skin.

Doug felt his jaws trembling, but the new Demon Commander patted Doug’s shoulder and said, “Lord Governor needn’t worry; look, aren’t these Demon God’s offspring very obedient?”

After saying this, the newly arrived Commander elegantly cut a piece of the black flesh served by an attendant, then shoved a still twitching chunk into their mouth with a fork.

“Would you like a bite?”

The Commander even kindly placed a small, less twitching piece of flesh near Doug’s mouth.

“No, no thanks…”

Doug felt like he was about to vomit, yet he struggled to hold it back.

Compared to before, Doug looked more haggard. Even if Jefferson were here, he might not recognize the Doug before him at first glance. However, a strange light flickered in Doug’s eyes, containing a third ambition and seven parts flattery towards the Demon Clan.

“Heh, it’s to be expected; you humans don’t have the courage to become Demon God’s offspring.”

The Commander didn’t hesitate to swallow the chunk of flesh.

After sending off the last batch of transformed Demon God offspring, the Commander took Doug up to the newly constructed tower, overlooking the distant battlefield.

Although he was called a Governor, anyone with eyes could see who held a higher status.

“Governor Doug, how do you view the current war?”

From the tower, the Commander looked toward the battle while asking Doug.

“Well, it’s certainly the Demon God offspring who are unstoppable. I’m just waiting to be a glorious Honorary Demon Clan member now.”

Even though the so-called flesh of those Demon Gods was disgusting and the so-called offspring made Doug feel nauseous, the strength of these monsters was real. They once treated Doug’s Graywhite Territory army like stray dogs, but now they were pressed into the last positions by these monsters and could not break free.

And the production cost of these monsters was just one Demon Soldier and those disgusting black chunks of meat.

“Hmph, if it were really like that, it would be great.”

The Demon Commander remained noncommittal towards Doug but looked a lot better. A human with such an attitude was quite decent. The humans on the battlefield shouldn’t be like Doug, obediently acting as dogs for the Demon Clan, right?

This light snort quickly dissipated in the northern wind, as the battlefield situation was not optimistic for the Demon Clan, which left the Commander, who brought the reinforcements, somewhat anxious.

Even though the first batch of reinforcements had arrived and withstood the humans’ attacks, regaining some advantage, the frontline still struggled to advance.

The battlefield resembled a massive meat grinder, where the bodies of humans and Demon God offspring piled up like mountains, black-red blood flowed all over the ground, and both sides remained deadlocked on the golden wheat fields.

It was hard to imagine that the Demon God offspring, which should be invincible in the eyes of the Demon Clan, were unable to push through Doug’s Graywhite Territory after being assisted by a barrage of humans for so long.

The Commander soon realized that he had been overly optimistic; the fighting spirit of the humans was stronger than he’d thought.

Many Demon Soldiers who were supposed to be responsible for logistics were temporarily transformed into Demon God offspring and sent to the battlefield to confront the humans.

It should be noted that the population of the Demon Clan was not large. Although the flesh of the Demon Gods was in unlimited supply, each Demon God offspring made was one less.

The humans’ resolve was evidently stronger, and continuing to fight like this, it was uncertain which side would collapse first. After discussing with Noam, the newcomer Commander decided to seek further reinforcements.

Both sides had already invested too much in sunk costs and were unlikely to back down. Hence, they could only continue to pour more flesh into this giant meat grinder.

The reinforcements of Demon Soldiers frantically consumed Demon God flesh, became transformed into Demon God offspring in a heightened state, and were continuously sent to the battlefield under Noam’s control.

The wails of the Demon God offspring echoed amid the increasingly cold northern winds, resembling echoes from the abyss.

Those Sludge Monsters, which surged like a tide, had already been consumed down by a third. Due to the continuous bombardment from the enemy, Noam had stopped letting these monsters charge forward as cannon fodder and instead kept them roaming in the rear, turning them into true consumables to supply the Demon God offspring falling back to quickly recover their state.

Originally, Noam had planned to launch a wave-like attack alongside the Sludge Monsters while the reinforcements rushed in, to seize the enemy’s position, which wasn’t impossible. After all, despite the reinforcements being strong, their numbers were limited, and the main force of the opposition was running out of steam.

However, the humans unexpectedly pulled out solutions that could counter the Demon God offspring from their sleeves. Whenever Noam attempted to organize an attack to destroy the enemies’ camps, those solutions, whose quantity was unknown, would emerge to stop the Demon Clan’s assault.

What the Demon Clan had hoped would be a quick end to the war had been unexpectedly dragged out.

The howling northern wind not only carried away the wails of humans and Demon God offspring on the battlefield but also dropped the first snowflake of the year.

The new Demon Commander extended a hand out of the tower and murmured, “Winter has arrived.”

The human army was not collapsing as easily as this Commander had anticipated; rather, they had dragged the time into winter. In the end, this Commander’s promises were only half fulfilled. Although the war could not be ended, at least these soldiers could survive the winter in human territories, though the majority of the Demon Clan had been transformed into Demon God offspring, and where they spent winter no longer mattered.

After receiving this new Demon Commander, Doug finally let out a long sigh of relief and returned to his camp.

Looking at the humans in the camp, Doug instantly felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity. Although there were still several Demons monitoring Doug within the camp, the supervision was not harsh. After all, Doug was now completely on the thief’s boat, with no way back.

“Big Brother!”

Doug’s two younger brothers quickly surrounded him.

“How’s the situation on the front lines?”

These two younger brothers, along with Lena’s uncle, once the alternate governor, now wholly looked to Doug for leadership.

There was no choice; they were just like Doug, caught up and had to act as dogs for the Demon Clan, and due to not having real power, their status was even lower than Doug’s.

Now, they wanted to show off like they did in the past, the outcome of whether the Demon Clan could win this time and if they could become Honorary Demon Clan members was crucial.

After all, as Doug had previously said, since the Northern Border was unlikely to win against the son-in-law, why not switch allegiance to the Demon Clan? If the Demon Clan grew strong in the future, they might truly become significant contributors and restore the greatness of the Lars Family, though the ancestors of the Lars Family would probably roll over in their graves if they knew their descendants had sided with the Demon Clan.

“We are at a stalemate, but there’s no need to worry; the Demon Lords still maintain an advantage.”

After saying this, Doug paused and asked, “How is the Eastern Border?”

“It seems the Eastern Border had been warned by the Demon Clan and has been intimidated by these monsters from the Demon Clan. Moreover, it’s heard that chaos has broken out again in the Royal Capital, so the Eastern Border has started to disregard Her Majesty the Queen’s warnings and is quietly sending supplies to the Demon Clan.”

Doug frowned and asked, “So what are you waiting for? Go to the area still under our control and raid some supplies from the Demon Clan. Whether or not we can revive our family’s glory depends on this chance; we absolutely cannot let those guys from the Eastern Border get a head start!”

“But Big Brother, the areas under our control have already been looted by the Demon Clan.”

Upon hearing his brothers say this, Doug finally regained some confidence. After all, looting and exploiting was his specialty.

“Hmph, it wouldn’t do if I weren’t there; leave that to me.”
