Deborah followed the knights of the Third Army Group to the Eastern Border. Facing the distant black cloud, Deborah quickly instructed the researchers from the Tower to begin analysis.
“Director, the calculations for the Holy Grail have come out.”
A researcher handed a report filled with charts to Deborah.
Looking at the report, the changes in the magic power environment around the Eastern Border were undoubtedly due to someone’s usage of Supremacy Magic. Furthermore, this Supremacy Magic seemed to have caused some sort of qualitative change, and the situation had become even more troublesome.
But this was not what gave Deborah the biggest headache; what truly troubled her was the Sea of Consciousness, which the Tower had been monitoring, because this Supremacy Magic had been subjected to some sort of erosion.
While the real-world influence on the magic power environment couldn’t be resolved by the Tower, they could deal with the things that caused the problems. However, when it involved the Sea of Consciousness, caution was necessary.
So after receiving this investigation report, Deborah did not hesitate but quickly headed into the Tower to report her findings.
There had been many speculations about the Tower from the outside world, with some believing that the so-called Tower was actually an abstract concept, or that it was a very high mountain peak. But the Tower was indeed a Tower, a literal structure that was almost reaching the heavens. It was just that, for some special reasons, ordinary people could not observe this Tower, and by the time one could see this Tower, they would already be within the control range of the Tower.
“So, Director Deborah, do you believe that this event was due to the Demon Clan using Supremacy Magic, which incorporated the flesh and blood of an Outer God, thus provoking some phenomena that have never been observed before?”
In a silvery-gray styled room, an ageless elven woman, while staring intently at the tablet in her hand, was confirming this with Deborah.
The elven woman’s attire was not extravagant, but rather very simple and plain, resembling a long robe. It looked quite capable, although the robe had some embellishments suitable for this world’s style.
“Yes, my lord. According to the observation results, at approximately the time this Supremacy Magic was activated in the Cape Eastern Border, there was a violent upheaval in the Sea of Consciousness. I believe this is no coincidence.”
After comparing the data, the elven woman asked, “So, have other deities in the Sea of Consciousness been affected?”
“As far as I can tell, no. However, my suggestion is to start verifying the deities born from the Sea of Consciousness. The amount of calculations is so massive that it would take several days, if not hundreds of days, to verify all of them thoroughly. Even verifying just a few deities of certain faiths cannot be completed in the short term unless we can send someone to connect with the Sea of Consciousness for direct investigation.”
Deborah hadn’t finished speaking when she was interrupted by the elven woman in front of her: “Director Deborah, regardless of how much computing power is needed to enter the Sea of Consciousness, we are merely observers and do not have the authority to enter the ocean of collective subconscious. Moreover, if any accidents occur in the Sea of Consciousness, it would be a catastrophic blow to the entire world.”
The elven woman shook her head and said, “This is truly too dangerous. For now, let’s verify the God of Contracts in our Tower to ensure its normal operation before slowly investigating the other deities. The Tower is the last line of defense for humanity, so we must ensure that the Tower itself does not encounter problems. This is also the most conservative strategy proposed by the Holy Grail.”
The God of Contracts can be said to be the foundation of the Tower’s existence, as it takes on the crucial responsibility of ensuring that the secret knowledge of the Tower does not leak outside. Any small bit of knowledge controlled by the Tower could cause a significant impact on this world.
“At the same time, we need to issue warnings to those worldly kings and monarchs, driving away those who promote Supremacy Magic, and if necessary, we can resort to armed means.”
“Tell the group from the other side that if they do not behave, the Tower does not mind expelling them once more.”
After recording everything down, Deborah asked, “And regarding the Demon Clan…”
Deborah’s expression turned slightly worried, as this incident was indeed caused by the Demon Clan, and the influence on the Sea of Consciousness had been previously observable.
“Since it has already affected the Sea of Consciousness, we must take action. While warning them, we should send people to control this group to the extent they cannot access Supremacy Magic. The potential Demon God suspected to be the remains of an Outer God must also be contained; this group has never made things easy from the very beginning.”
The elven woman tiredly sat back in her chair. The Tower had always faithfully fulfilled its role as an observer. The identity of an observer had brought the Tower much knowledge that was beyond this era but had also imposed many limitations on it.
“My lord, there is one more thing. Regarding the Northern Border Governor of Cape, I suspect he has already grasped some secrets of this world. It is also possible that, like the Old Empire, he has established certain contracts with the Goddess.”
“His attitude is quite strange. He seems uninterested in what the Holy Grail might reveal yet reacts to the principles of the Holy Grail, not with surprise, but more with curiosity. It feels less like he is curious about this technology for the first time and more like he is curious as to why we possess this technology.”
“Moreover, although this Northern Border Governor is intentionally concealing things and even prohibits our access to those Obelisks, the speed of their technological development is evidently abnormal, as if they had already planned out their development route in their minds.”
Upon hearing Deborah’s remarks, the tired elven woman did not even raise her eyelids, but asked, “Oh? Just like the former Old Empire? The former Old Empire also experienced a leap in technology after contact with the Goddess, even surpassing us in some fields, including research on souls and the Sea of Consciousness.”
The tired elven woman sighed and lamented, “I originally thought we could finally shed the duties of observers. At least the Old Empire could share some pressure with us. What a pity. If external enemies invade, we can intervene to help. But during internal turmoil within the empire, we, as observers, have no right to intervene.”
“No, the Governor gives me a different feeling compared to the emperors of the Old Empire. Although I’ve never really encountered the emperors of the Old Empire…”
“I’m sorry, my lord, I can’t quite express that feeling. I can only say that the technological development in the Northern Border of Cape does not seem as extreme as that of the Old Empire.”
After finishing what Deborah had to say, the exhausted elven woman finally sat up straight. However, after careful consideration, she said, “Director Deborah, remember, once the Tower intervenes in politics, countless people will follow suit, attempting to drag us into some faction. Therefore, we cannot become allies with anyone.”
