Anastasia did not understand how Eryx, who had once been so proud, could allow humans to ride on his back.
Especially when the magic circle on Eryx’s body manifested with brilliance; he had truly drawn a colossal supremacy magic circle on himself and regarded himself as a source of magic power—although Eryx did not seem to care much about those humans, some of them couldn’t withstand the bumps and fell off along the way.
If Eryx, who once charged the tower with his kind, could see his current self, he probably wouldn’t understand himself now.
It was at that moment when supremacy magic truly activated that Anastasia seemed to understand why.
As the supremacy magic descended upon the sky with the storm, Anastasia immediately felt a touch of despair; Eryx had integrated the flesh of an Outer God into the supremacy magic.
Eryx was going mad! Neither Anastasia’s understanding of Eryx nor the calculations of the Holy Grail considered that Eryx would draw the supremacy magic circle on himself, let alone that Eryx would willingly become the source of magic power for that magic.
However, the tower was not like the Eastern Border, which was almost entirely comprised of commoners. Soon, the professionals in the tower began to act; some continuously attacked the mages on Eryx’s back, while others wove defensive spells. The tower still stood firm amidst the storm, just as it had in history.
On the contrary, Eryx continuously let out painful howls; his dragon breath was more like a devastating rainfall than a prelude to supremacy magic, descending upon the city below the tower.
Even in such pain, Eryx stared at the professionals beneath the tower and shouted with a voice that covered the sky: “Human professionals, are you so willing to be subservient beneath the tower? You worked hard to ascend to the peak of this continent, only to be manipulated by the tower?”
“No! A world of the law of the jungle is more suited for you; us strong ones deserve to rule this world!”
To be honest, many of the auxiliary professionals beneath the tower felt somewhat stirred when they heard Eryx say this. Even if these professionals had grievances in their hearts, those within the tower also abided by the rules, bound by the God of Contracts, and were perhaps even stricter than these auxiliary personnel.
So even if there were grievances, most professionals often did not complain.
Under this environment and the pressure of the supremacy magic unleashed by the united dragons, these top professionals on the continent began to share some small thoughts.
Is a world of the law of the jungle truly more suitable for these high-level professionals?
A black dragon, a supremacy magic; to be honest, in terms of strength, this was far from the war of the past. Even with an accident, it couldn’t pose a substantial threat to the tower. Yet this weary elf couldn’t help but nervously watch the supremacy magic that had been turned black.
Anastasia saw the phantom that should have been sealed deep in the Sea of Consciousness appear in the sky.
In an instant, Anastasia felt her heart and lungs stop; no wonder the Demon Clan’s supremacy magic caused such turmoil in the Sea of Consciousness back then; could the flesh of an Outer God directly affect the Sea of Consciousness?
Watching the phantom in the sky as if it was about to break free from some seal, Anastasia’s expression finally changed.
“Eryx, stop! Do you know what you are doing?!”
Seeing the elf, who had always regarded herself as a giant lizard, finally displaying a panicked expression, Eryx suddenly felt that being drained of magic power was inconsequential, and he could no longer even feel the pain.
The tower was more solid than Eryx had imagined. It didn’t matter; Anastasia seemed to be very afraid of the supremacy magic she was casting, and that was enough for Eryx. Just seeing that expression on Anastasia made him feel completely satisfied.
With Eryx’s maniacal laughter, black rain fell alongside his dragon breath. Even so, the human professionals showed extraordinary resilience; how terrifying could a city formed by professionals be? The defensive barriers forcefully blocked both the supremacy magic and the dragon breath.
Eryx felt his wings rotting, and his spirit losing consciousness; was it because of his own drained magic? This black rainstorm was even more disturbing than the storm in the central area of the Eastern Border.
The demon god’s flesh on Eryx’s back had devoured those mages almost entirely and was continuously expanding. Soon, this black flesh covered Eryx’s entire body, rotting his dragon scales.
This flesh quickly enveloped Eryx’s whole body, causing him to plummet from the sky like a puddle of mud.
In mid-air, Eryx’s crimson dragon eyes suddenly widened, familiar phantom pains surged again, and he frantically spread his wings, shaking off the rotting flesh, his corroded body diving straight toward the tower.
“Anastasia, let’s fall into the abyss together!”
Eryx crashed into the tower.
Anastasia and the other professionals fought with all their might to resist Eryx’s impact. Even the tower, which had stood firm throughout history, shook under Eryx’s self-destructive strike.
Eryx was like a rotten tomato smashed against a wall; his gigantic body smeared with the rotting flesh stuck to the tower. Yet, as if sensing that the tower was shaken by him, Eryx emitted sporadic, eerie laughter.
Having absorbed the power of dragons and the flesh of the demon god, the interior of the tower flickered with red lights for the first time, as if constantly warning the people inside the tower that danger was approaching.
The weary elf admitted he had underestimated the situation; perhaps during Eryx’s passage through the Eastern Border’s black rain and mist, the dragon had already been affected in some way—this dragon had truly gone mad!
But compared to the damage to the tower, what genuinely made Anastasia nervous was the phantom in the sky when the supremacy magic activated.
“Quick, monitor the situation in the Sea of Consciousness!”
Under the rain curtain, Anastasia continually directed the personnel inside the tower.
“We’ve done that!”
Just then, a researcher quietly approached Anastasia and said, “My lord… the God of Contracts has exhibited unstable phenomena.”
In an instant, cold sweat broke out on Anastasia.
“Gather all personnel in the tower!”
After saying this, the elf, who did not know how many years had passed, came to the first level of the tower. The lights in the entire room suddenly illuminated. The elf arrived in front of a huge screen and said, “Anastasia Romanova, request to initiate self-checking procedures, request temporary authorization.”
“Permission confirmation in progress.”
A cold synthetic voice emerged.
“Permission confirmed. Connecting to the server, quickly initiating self-check, enabling automatic repair procedures, granting observer: Anastasia Romanova partial elevator permissions.”
Once authorized, Anastasia connected her Holy Grail to the server and, using the server’s computational power, began a rapid examination of the situation in the Sea of Consciousness.
Anastasia squatted down, reflecting on how much time had passed since her birth; she could no longer keep track, the only thing she remembered was engraved in her genes—the continuation of human civilization.
Anastasia looked up, her gaze seeming to penetrate the canopy of the tower. What was there atop this tower? But ultimately, upon seeing the operational results on the large screen, Anastasia still stood up and left the room.
A quick examination could not clarify the specific issues occurring deep in the Sea of Consciousness, but at least it indicated that the current situation had not reached the worst point yet, and there was still a chance for salvation.
“Abnormal fluctuations have appeared in the Sea of Consciousness, and currently, only our God of Contracts has been affected, unable to fulfill his functions normally.”
“This is also one of the goals for which we initially created the deity; true to our expectations, the God of Contracts has become a dam in the Sea of Consciousness in times of disaster. However, if we do nothing…”
Anastasia did not continue speaking, but the gathered professionals exchanged glances. The God of Contracts being affected meant that the God of Contracts no longer had any restraint over these professionals at the peak of the continent.
“So I have decided to temporarily seal the tower, and we will enter the Sea of Consciousness to remove the pollutants.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a professional stood up and asked, “But my lord, we are only observers; we do not have the authority to enter the Sea of Consciousness.”
Anastasia’s expression remained calm as she replied, “I know.”
