42. Only Give You My Milk
Saturday.
Jiang Zhi got up early today. She had a lunch appointment with Principal Wang at a restaurant called Taoyuan Restaurant.
Before that, she had a lot to prepare.
“Qian Qian, come out for breakfast.”
Turning off the stove, the rumble of the range hood gradually quieted down. Jiang Zhi brought breakfast to the dining table, then shouted towards a room.
Today’s breakfast at Jiang Zhi’s home was—
Ding ding ding ding~
Golden Fried Rice with Eggs, just like the one from the culinary show (it was basically fried rice with extra eggs).
“Coming!”
The door opened, and the little girl came out in her slippers with a patter.
She was just about to head to the dining table when she suddenly remembered something, carefully closed the door, and looked at Jiang Zhi with suspicion: “Mom said I can’t look!”
Jiang Zhi was speechless and rolled her eyes.
So early in the morning, this girl had run into the room to prepare some surprise for her.
To be honest, she was quite looking forward to it at first, but it had been almost three days and she hadn’t seen any sign of a surprise. She had no idea what this child was busy doing in her room every day.
Closing the door, Qian Qian sat down at the dining table. When she saw the fried rice on the table, her fair and rosy little face immediately fell.
“Fried rice again…”
“What are you talking about?” Jiang Zhi was displeased, hands on her hips, muttering, “Aren’t you the one who loves mom’s fried rice the most?”
That was indeed true…
But Qian Qian didn’t want to eat fried rice every day.
Feeling her mother’s eager gaze, the little girl found it hard to express her frustration. She pouted, picked up a small spoon, and reluctantly put the fried rice in her mouth.
Chew chew chew… (no string)
Gulp!
Qian Qian swallowed it with difficulty.
Jiang Zhi nodded in satisfaction. She had specially tasted it before serving, and it had improved significantly compared to before. Not to mention, just the presentation was already appetizing.
I’m really amazing!
Jiang Zhi couldn’t help but feel a little proud.
It probably wouldn’t be long before she could become that kind of virtuous wife, combining household skills, gentleness, beauty, kindness, and generosity… ugh, ugh, ugh, good mother!
Huh?
When did I develop such aspirations?
Forget it.
Being a good mother isn’t such a bad thing.
Jiang Zhi sat down across from Qian Qian. She didn’t have the habit of having breakfast, nor did she want to add to her workload, so she just took a sip of water and said, “How’s the preparation going? Any surprise for your mom?”
“Secret!” Qian Qian responded.
“Come on, share a bit,” Jiang Zhi thought that if her daughter really prepared something nice, she wouldn’t mind giving her a little reward.
For example, a kiss from mom?
Or a plate of fried rice full of love?
“Hmm…”
She seemed to have heard that pre-warmed surprises are more likely to pique someone’s interest, right?
Thinking of this, Qian Qian put down her small spoon, pretended to ponder, and after a few seconds said, “It’s related to dad!”
“Uh huh.”
Jiang Zhi immediately showed a face like an old person on the subway looking at their phone, disdainfully saying, “What? It’s related to your dad? Isn’t that not a surprise then?”
She couldn’t quite understand Qian Qian’s thinking.
Speaking of which, this girl seemed to still think that she and Su Yan were in a cold war phase, not knowing that her parents didn’t even really know each other yet.
Not wanting to continue on this topic, Jiang Zhi glanced at her phone.
There was still a bit of time until the appointment.
Putting her phone back in her pocket, Jiang Zhi was just about to tell Qian Qian that she would be going out at noon when her phone vibrated.
Taking it out to look.
Wow, three messages came in at the same time.
Simai Lu: Want to play two rounds at noon? I have work tonight and haven’t had a chance these past few days.
Tsk tsk tsk, what a rare visitor!
Ever since she had vented some frustration towards the other person over Su Yan and left some random comments, she hadn’t chatted with Simai Lu for a long time.
Not to mention playing together.
Even when she hadn’t updated for several days, Simai Lu hadn’t rushed her, which made her feel a bit out of sorts.
Thinking about possibly losing a deeply connected online friend (financial supporter), Jiang Zhi regretted it immensely, oh no, I want to explode! 😭
And today, Simai Lu actually took the initiative to message her.
I’m a Pigeon: Just in time, I need a healer for Mythical, please carry me 🥹.
Simai Lu: Login.
I’m a Pigeon: I’ll play healer, you play Jett. I don’t want you to call me mom, just call me baby. My milk is only for you in this lifetime!
Simai Lu: Sure, login.
I’m a Pigeon: You have to promise me, you can only use my milk for the rest of your life.
Simai Lu: What do you mean by that? Are you going to login or not?
I’m a Pigeon: I can login, but there’s one issue.
Simai Lu: ?
I’m a Pigeon: I won’t have free time at noon.
After sending this message, Jiang Zhi immediately turned on Do Not Disturb for her messages with Simai Lu, then hugged her phone and sat in a chair, chuckling.
Next, she opened the second message like an ancient emperor flipping a card.
Xu You: Hello…
She directly passed on that, Jiang Zhi was even too lazy to switch to her alternate account and went straight to the next message.
The last card was from Sister Jiang.
Jiang Zhi had already expected this. They had agreed on it during dinner yesterday that Jiang Ruyan would come to her house this morning to help Jiang Zhi do her makeup.
And keep an eye on Qian Qian during lunch.
To be honest, Jiang Zhi felt a bit awkward about it.
But in this situation, putting on some makeup was quite necessary… although she had no idea what it was necessary for, but delving into such matters was itself quite unnecessary.
Ruyan the Empress: Open the door!
Did she arrive so quickly?
Jiang Zhi raised an eyebrow and looked at Qian Qian, who had cleared the bowl of fried rice without her noticing. Wow~ Was it this delicious?
Her mood inexplicably improved a lot.
“Mom is going out for something at noon, your sister Jiang is coming to keep you company, so remember to behave.”
Jiang Zhi cheerfully repeated the same phrases she didn’t know how many times.
“Got it, got it.”
Qian Qian obediently shook her head, her little feet kicked off the ground, and she fell to the floor. Just like she came, she scampered back into her room, preparing that so-called surprise for mom.
Seeing this scene, and remembering that the surprise was related to Su Yan, Jiang Zhi sighed slightly.
She put the dishes in the sink, not rushing to wash them. She planned to leave them for the evening, then walked out of the house and downstairs to greet Jiang Ruyan.
Meanwhile, in a certain room.
Qian Qian was on the floor, holding a sky-blue crayon, her mouth blossoming with a smile as she doodled on a large white sheet of paper.
Previously, she had also drawn a picture at Jiang Jie’s coffee shop.
However, she keenly remembered her dad’s teaching that one should always have a backup plan; the more preparations made, the higher the success rate… just like how he pursued her mom back then.
Later, she accompanied her mom watching a romantic drama on TV.
The TV said that to reconcile couples like her parents, it takes memories that are unique to them; no matter how heart-wrenching the arguments were, a recollection would guarantee their reconciliation.
So she drew another one.
Unlike the previous one, this drawing featured only her dad and mom.
The blue lines were raindrops, the black parts represented the night, and the golden columns were street lamps beneath which stood her dad and mom.
This was a photo.
A photo carrying the happy memories of her mom and dad.
Although the actual photo couldn’t be found, Qian Qian could draw it, and while it wasn’t pretty, it didn’t matter; her mom would understand the meaning!
This one would remind mom of dad, and that one would remind mom of the family.
Qian Qian was truly a genius!
“Achoo!”
Suddenly sneezing, Qian Qian sniffed and didn’t care about her slightly swollen and dazed mind, focusing intently on her creation.
