13. Disaster is always one step behind me~
Ten minutes passed in the blink of an eye, just as planned. The moment the class bell rang, our dear Teacher Jiang had just finished tidying up the books on the podium and was about to leave the classroom to go home for dinner when she was surprised to find that a figure was actually faster than her!
A purple flash darted past, and Evelyn’s figure instantly disappeared from the classroom. Jiang Mengyun hurriedly stepped forward in confusion, but was shocked to discover: in just a fleeting moment, Evelyn had vanished without a trace!
“Disaster is always one step behind me!”
“Evelyn, you can run this fast?”
Before she could recover from her shock, Emilia had calmly walked up to her side and together they poked their heads out to look outside. With a hint of emotion, she said, “You’re quite fast, huh~”
“Hey? Emilia?”
“Hehe~ Is it a cat-and-mouse game? I’m the best at that!”
Emilia seemed uninterested in Jiang Mengyun’s reaction. She excitedly licked her lips, humming a tune as she skipped toward the direction where Evelyn had disappeared.
Only a bewildered Teacher Jiang and the other students remained. Jiang Mengyun’s reaction was mild, given that she was a relatively innocent young teacher, but the students were different!
“Whoa? She runs, she chases, she has wings and can’t fly? What kind of outrageous plot is unfolding!?”
“I declare I ship this!”
“What to do? Looking at these two, they definitely have some untold secrets!”
“Thinking about their totally different return dates, tsk tsk, just this alone can make me imagine hundreds of thousands of words of novel content!”
“Dude, there’s no bookstore to smash!”
While the students huddled together, excitedly discussing, only Zhang Anran sat alone in her seat, her lips pressed tightly together, not saying a word.
……
“Whew… whew… whew… How strange, that angel didn’t catch up?”
At that moment, Evelyn had run far away from the school, panting and struggling to catch her breath, while awkwardly retracting her pair of colorful demon wings.
She had even spread her wings to speed up her flight to avoid being caught by Emilia, but it seemed that effort was in vain!
“By the way, I seem to have something to do at noon today? What was it?”
Evelyn suddenly remembered that she had planned to do something during her lunch break, but being startled by her new deskmate had made her momentarily forget what it was…
Was it about the new Judgement Plan? No, no! Or was it to meet her new roommate? That’s not it either!
“Ah, right! It was to visit Uncle Wei and the others!”
Evelyn clapped her hands and recalled her originally planned lunch content.
Uncle Wei was a kind and thick-skinned middle-aged man living in the neighboring community of Evelyn. He had a strong sense of justice and was very helpful, a typical honest person. The neighbors always held him in high regard.
As for how Evelyn met him, it was because about a year ago when she first arrived in Worry-Free City, she was cornered by a group of young rascals. Just as she was ready to teach those little troublemakers a lesson to let them know why flowers are red, Uncle Wei, seeing injustice, rushed in and swiftly took down all those troublemakers before Evelyn could make a move.
He even took the time to ask if Evelyn was scared.
But in reality, Uncle Wei’s act of bravery saved those little thugs’ lives.
Otherwise, had Evelyn acted at that time, considering she had just come out of Hell and was unaware of her strength, those little thugs would have likely gone straight to their next life.
Oh, wait, actually, their fathers might have at least given them a good beating first.
In short, since Evelyn had an extraordinary obsession with justice, she had always held a great fondness for people like Uncle Wei who acted heroically and were willing to step in. Additionally, she had even participated in a community event once when she had some free time, where she had interacted with Uncle Wei and his family a few times, gradually getting to know them better.
The reason she was visiting Uncle Wei this time was because— the scum she dealt with yesterday was connected to a case involving Uncle Wei’s daughter…
To say she felt ashamed was an understatement. Based on the timeline of the incident, Uncle Wei’s daughter had probably been bullied before she arrived, and despite having interacted with her several times, she hadn’t noticed anything unusual at the time. Even after Uncle Wei and his family had finished their legal troubles, she was still unaware of the situation, only learning about it through Zhang Anran.
This was why Evelyn rushed over that night to execute justice after just finding out about it in the morning; she felt guilty for not having noticed the issue sooner!
This visit aimed to offer some comfort to Uncle Wei and his family. After all, even though she helped them exact revenge, it was a bit late. To her, delayed justice could not be called justice.
At most, it could be called revenge.
But speaking of visiting, she couldn’t go empty-handed, could she?
What should she bring as a gift?
As she pondered, Evelyn suddenly noticed a nearby fruit store.
Got it!
……
“Is Uncle Wei home? It’s Evelyn! If convenient, can you please open the door?”
In a scene shift, Evelyn was now standing in front of Uncle Wei’s house holding a bag of fresh fruit. She knocked on the door while calling out loudly inside. But strangely, even though she had been calling for a while, no one came to open the door or responded.
“Hmm? Not home? That shouldn’t be…”
Evelyn tilted her head in confusion. She remembered Uncle Wei and his family should have been home from work by now. Usually, when she came by, there was never a time when no one was inside.
But if Uncle Wei and the others were home, they should have opened the door for her long ago; it was impossible for them to make her wait this long.
Thinking this, Evelyn leaned closer to the door and rang the doorbell twice again, but still got no response.
Suddenly, Evelyn’s little nose twitched, and her brows furrowed slightly as she leaned closer to sniff the door.
It seemed like there was a strange smell…
The next moment, Evelyn’s face suddenly changed, and even the fruit basket she was holding fell to the ground in fear.
It was the smell of blood!!!
