19. Soul Magic
Afterward, Evelyn informed Emilia of the information she had received from Nolan at noon. When Emilia heard this, she pondered for a moment and arrived at the same conclusion as Evelyn: the civilian blood clan named Carl was not the real culprit of the case, but rather a victim who had suffered a tragic fate.
Evelyn then inquired about the other crime scenes, and Emilia told her that Carl was the only victim who had been turned into a blood slave. The clues found at the other crime scenes varied; some had traces of magic residue, while others bore claw marks from beasts. This was also why the Night Watchmen had been completely clueless about the case since it occurred.
If they couldn’t even identify the specific race of the murderer, what could they do?
The afternoon passed in the blink of an eye, during which Evelyn and Emilia discussed other possibilities, such as whether the crimes might be the work of a multi-racial gang. However, in the end, they found flaws in these possibilities and gradually refuted them.
Reluctantly, Evelyn could only call her father for help.
Our dear Lord of Hell, being a devoted daughter slave, naturally adhered to the principle of putting his daughter first. Upon hearing it was his precious daughter’s request, he agreed without hesitation.
In fact, when he first received Evelyn’s call, he was so moved that he wept and expressed how this was the first time Evelyn had actively called him, nearly causing our Devil Miss to hang up in fright.
As for the ultimate daughter slave pretending to be a lonely old man, Miss Evelyn expressed strong condemnation of this behavior. However, it must be said that Satan surprisingly nailed the emotional tone and voice when pretending to be a lonely old man. If Evelyn didn’t visit Hell to see Satan almost every month, she might have actually believed it.
After all this, our Miss Evelyn concluded her day of classes and happily prepared to go out for dinner and relax, leaving the poor Angel Miss to attend that dreaded evening study session alone.
“How strange… This morning, it felt like we were at odds, yet this afternoon, we naturally ended up discussing the case, as if we were sisters who had known each other for years… What’s wrong with me…”
Evelyn walked through the dimly lit alley, munching on a hamburger that served as her dinner, while reflecting on what she had discovered today. She realized that, unconsciously, she had reached a temporary reconciliation with Angel Miss and couldn’t help but feel a little surprised by this subconscious behavior.
It is known that angels and demons have been mortal enemies since their inception, with one overseeing Heaven and the other controlling Hell. Normally, they have always been at odds and even waged wars in ancient times.
If Evelyn remembered correctly, she once heard from Uncle Mephisto that the largest battle between angels and demons involved nearly every other race.
In that battle, her father Satan personally faced the strongest angel of the angel lineage, Angel Lord Mikayla. The outcome of that battle remains unknown, but it is certain that both Mikayla and Satan sustained severe injuries, leading to the war’s end.
Thus, theoretically speaking, as a demon, Evelyn should feel instinctive disgust and hostility toward Emilia, an angel. However, judging by this afternoon’s situation… not only did she not instinctively dislike Emilia, but she also felt a sense of warmth toward her.
How peculiar.
“Well, whatever, it doesn’t really affect me. Since I helped her out this afternoon, we should be even, right? Having an angel help out will make future activities much easier! As for the subconscious kindness… let’s just assume it’s fate from a past life!”
Evelyn has always been quite carefree. After finding a reason to comfort herself, she continued happily toward her rental room, humming an unknown melody.
In a corner where she couldn’t see, a suspicious figure was stealthily watching her intently. The wide black robe concealed nearly everything about him in the darkness, as he shifted and moved like a pervert within the shadows, his eyes filled with excitement and desire as he gazed at Evelyn.
“Finally, an opportunity! The body and soul of a demon… My lord! Thank you for your blessings!”
…
Perhaps due to Evelyn’s direct request, our father Satan completed the soul inquiry at an astonishing speed and called Evelyn back.
But unfortunately, he brought back not good news.
“What!? Can’t find anything!? How can that be!?”
Evelyn widened her eyes, incredulous as she repeatedly asked Satan on the other end of the phone.
“Indeed, there’s nothing, my daughter. The deceased in the cases you mentioned did not enter Hell or Heaven after death; their souls were forcefully kept on Earth by some power or someone.”
Satan’s voice on the other end carried a hint of helplessness.
“The souls were kept on Earth? Dad, do you mean… Soul Magic?”
Evelyn frowned. If this matter really involved Soul Magic, then the parties involved would likely exceed her original predictions.
Soul Magic, in essence, belongs to a branch of mental magic and is undoubtedly advanced magic, but its nature ensures that it cannot be mastered easily like other advanced magics such as time or space magic. Only those with a deep understanding of souls can comprehend Soul Magic.
For example, Evelyn’s father, Satan, and the Angel Lord Mikayla of the Angel Race are both highly skilled in Soul Magic.
However, there are also rumors that the queen of the blood clan, who is Nolan’s biological mother, is also proficient in Soul Magic.
In summary, if the true culprit of this event were indeed an expert in Soul Magic, it could explain why they could easily defeat an entire elf envoy and abduct a high-level elf. Such a person would, at the very least, be several hundred years old.
“It may not necessarily be Soul Magic, after all, if it’s just keeping the soul in the mortal realm, there are still many methods to achieve that.”
Satan’s attempt to comfort was of no use. Evelyn’s previously decent mood was thoroughly swept away. She pinched her brow, already predicting that the upcoming investigation would be filled with blood and turmoil.
However…
Even if it is indeed an ancient monster skilled in Soul Magic, so what? As the princess of demons, the most pampered daughter of the Lord of Hell, and the highest-ranking jewel of Hell, Evelyn has an unimaginable number of trump cards. If she is pushed to the edge, even facing an opponent with strength comparable to a Lord of Hell or a Six-Winged Angel, she can ensure that they will have their share of suffering!
No matter who they are, since they have committed such a heinous and atrocious act, Evelyn will make them pay the blood price!
Only in this way can the souls that still cannot find peace after death rest in peace!!!
