30. So… it’s just doing…
A little time passed, and after Evelyn left school, Emilia boredly finished the first night self-study session by herself.
“Sure enough, night self-study is my archenemy! It’s so boring that I almost fell asleep listening!”
As soon as class was over, Emilia slumped onto her desk like she had lost her soul with a “thud.” If she could, she really wanted to drag out the bastard who invented night self-study, tie him to a cross, and stab him for two and a half years! She had to make him understand why flowers are so red!
But complaints are just complaints; the rules are what they are, and students must bear the pain and continue with this damn night self-study. As one of them, Emilia was no exception. Thinking of this, she involuntarily glanced at the empty seat beside her and secretly cursed a certain demon who had slipped away early.
“Sly demon! Running away ahead of time! What kind of righteous partner can’t even share difficulties?!”
“However, since she, a demon, can take a leave, then as a dignified angel with a similar background, I should be able to take leave too, right?”
Only then did the late-to-the-game Miss Angel remember that she could leverage her status as a returning student to ask her teacher for leave. As for studying and new classes, haha, let’s not even mention that as an angel, her learning ability far exceeds that of ordinary human beings. The fact that she didn’t have to take the college entrance exam already put her ahead of all the whiners in the classroom!
Moreover, if she really wanted to experience college life in the future, she could just say a word to the Night Watchman or the Church; the universities available to her wouldn’t just be domestic but renowned institutions around the world!
This wasn’t Emilia boasting; angels and humans have maintained friendly relations over generations. The two have a strong connection, sharing the same faith and a common enemy in demons. Even if their relationship wasn’t as close as that of elves and fairies, it wasn’t far off.
Thus, Emilia put her thoughts into action, jumping out of her seat in a leap and heading straight to the teacher’s office to find our dear Jiang Mengyun.
As expected, just like Evelyn had thought, she ended up facing a major setback with Jiang Mengyun.
“Hey—why, Teacher Jiang!? Clearly, classmate Evelyn can go home to rest at night, why do I still have to attend night self-study here!?”
In the office, Emilia questioned Jiang Mengyun with a confused look. Our Miss Jiang was somewhat helpless about this; while she understood the feelings of returning students like Evelyn and Emilia who weren’t used to the ridiculous domestic schedule, her stance was to help them adapt rather than indulging them. After all, being too lenient isn’t beneficial for their adaptation to domestic rules, nor is it helpful for their future growth.
Evelyn’s situation was entirely due to the principal being dazzled by the newly built buildings and library, managing to persuade Jiang Mengyun with great difficulty.
Though there’s a saying that where there’s one, there’s two, Jiang Mengyun had never believed in such sayings. Therefore, when Emilia approached her asking for leave to skip night self-study, she chose to patiently dissuade her. No matter what reasons Emilia brought up, she remained steadfast.
“But… but I really have something very important to do…”
Seeing her serious arguments (nonsense) had no effect, Emilia unhesitatingly employed Tactical Two—using her innate charm as an angel and her cute appearance to try and persuade Jiang Mengyun. To put it simply… she was trying to act cute.
There was no choice; she hadn’t learned much non-combat magic, so she could only rely on her cuteness in this situation.
“Um… sigh, Emilia, you still need to try to spend more time socializing with your classmates… The teacher knows you were acquainted with classmate Evelyn before, but Evelyn’s situation is genuinely special. If possible, the teacher also hopes she can interact more with her classmates.”
Clearly, Miss Jiang was not buying it at all. She was resolute, firmly believing that Emilia had gotten used to the freedom of coming home early while studying abroad and just needed to tough it out for a couple more days to adapt.
“But… but…”
Emilia pretended to look like she was about to cry. Her own looks were already quite endearing, and now with this somewhat shy and wronged demeanor, she was even more charming. Finally, under our angel’s relentless (persistent) assault, Jiang Mengyun couldn’t help but relent.
“Then can you tell the teacher what you need to do that would require you to leave so early? The teacher has heard that you’re renting a place to live here. You just returned to the country, and it’s unfamiliar territory. It wouldn’t be good if you encountered any bad people! As your teacher, I naturally need to fulfill my duty of protecting your safety!”
“Um… Well…”
In reality, Emilia hadn’t thought of what excuse to use to fool Jiang Mengyun, and just when her brain was running wild trying to come up with one, Evelyn’s face popped up in her mind. A bold and extremely cunning idea slowly formed in her head.
That demon was “special,” right? Then I’ll just “borrow” her as a shield a little!
“To be honest, Teacher… I had previously agreed with classmate Evelyn to go home together in the evening to do something…”
“Classmate Evelyn? Can you tell the teacher what that is?”
“Well… it’s just doing…”
Emilia’s little face turned slightly red, looking just like a shy little girl. She pretended to glance around, confirming that there were only Jiang Mengyun and herself in the whole office, then slowly lifted her left hand, making an “OK” gesture, while her other hand raised a finger that moved back and forth through the circle formed by the “OK” gesture’s index finger and thumb.
“… it’s that kind of thing…”
? Are foreign kids this open-minded?
Miss Jiang Mengyun, though innocent, was still an adult and quickly understood Emilia’s meaning. Her cheeks instantly flushed, and even her speech became somewhat incoherent.
“Okay… okay, teacher… teacher understands now, I will write you a leave note…”
Jiang Mengyun hurriedly pulled out a leave note from her desk, hastily wrote her name on it, and hurriedly handed it to Emilia, as if afraid to waste her precious time.
“Here, this is the leave note. Although the teacher knows she has no authority to say this… I just want to remind you a bit: both you and Evelyn are still young, and there are still many days ahead, so please exercise some restraint!!!”
