Chapter 37: Book of Fate
Although the pen formed from light did not have a definite physical form.
Lonis, however, could connect with it through her consciousness and freely control the pen’s actions…
“Ah, the light pen is on the book, moving by itself?”
“Hmph, idiot fox, this is someone else’s book… don’t write any nonsensical things.”
“Of course not, I’m not… hmm…”
Lonis opened a book, and the owner of this book was named Lunz. She could be described as a very ordinary girl—even her name sounded like a boy’s.
Her origins were not good. As the eldest daughter, her parents had already been killed by monsters, so Lunz had taken charge of caring for her younger siblings from a very early age.
Her life was bumpy and tiring, but mostly filled with trivial matters. Although her luck improved later on and her academic performance was considered excellent, she could only enlist in the army to earn enough funds.
In an army full of elites, someone like Lunz seemed even more ordinary.
After all, she didn’t have any outstanding talents or any power beyond that of ordinary people. Therefore, Lunz simply became a kitchen staff member in a restaurant, cooking for other soldiers.
But even so, Lunz did not lose heart. Her attendance record had always been perfect, and she had good relationships with many people inside the ship.
So…
“After the war ended, Lunz returned to her hometown and used the prize money she brought back to help her younger siblings successfully go to school…”
Lonis wrote this sentence…
And then!
A strange power surged from the pages… that feeling was similar to when Lonis once plunged herself into the void to replicate the power of the Dark Abyss.
In an instant, she seemed to see myriad worlds. In each of these worlds, there were lives living.
And finally, her vision focused on one scene… on a bright, sunny afternoon, Lunz, dressed in military uniform and wearing medals, returned home healthy.
Her younger brother and sister greeted her excitedly. Walking on the dirt road through the fields, everyone was filled with happy smiles.
…
…
However, this bizarre scene was fleeting… After it disappeared, Lonis’s body trembled, and she almost knelt on the ground from exhaustion.
“Little idiot, what happened?”
Fortunately, Elusia was prepared and immediately held the idiot fox in her arms, preventing her from falling and getting hurt.
“Ah, I… I think…”
…
Lonis narrated what she saw to her companions.
And then, the line Lonis had written on Lunz’s page gradually turned gray.
At the bottom of the page, a line of small text appeared…
“Time has been locked. When the Wheel of Fate begins to turn again, fate will continue according to the written words.”
…
“This line of text…”
“This book, could it be?!”
…
The girls cried out in surprise. If the annotations in this book were true… it meant that this was not just a book recording the past.
But a Book of Fate that represented the trajectory of a person’s life!
And by using the power of the Rainbow Abyss, one could determine a person’s future on it. In other words, if Lonis wanted someone to die, she could do so by simply writing a few lines.
…
“This, this kind of thing, it’s too bizarre! Elusia, did I really affect Lunz’s future?”
“Hmm, it seems so. If we win this time, then she should be able to return to her hometown and reunite with her siblings.”
“!”
“The power of the Supreme Beings is truly as elusive and unfathomable as ever? As expected of a four-dimensional civilization, they truly have some skill…”
Elusia closed her eyes slightly and slowly closed Lunz’s book.
Although the girls could give her an even happier ending in the book, life ultimately needs to be pursued on one’s own.
If it was bestowed by others, then even a happy ending would be equivalent to letting down Lunz’s life.
Therefore…
…
“Elusia, do we… also have a book? This book is in the hands of the Supreme Beings, so no matter what we do, they know? If they write a line, we’ll die?”
“Hmph, how is that possible? And wouldn’t this book be called ‘After Rebirth, the Princess Turned Me into a Slave Maid’? Don’t imagine those fanfiction you’ve read as reality.”
“Wuwu…”
“Because, little idiot, don’t forget that we come from the future. Although it’s not impossible for the Supreme Beings to have the ability to see through time, at least from the current point in time, we haven’t even been born yet? Where would our Book of Fate come from?”
“!”
“So, I think the reason Alice summoned heroes from the future wasn’t simply to borrow power from the future, but also for this consideration, right? Because it is completely beyond cause and effect, anything can happen next!”
“Is, is that so?”
Although she still didn’t fully understand what Elusia was saying, Lonis felt much more at ease after hearing it.
…
“Then, Elusia, what should we do next…”
“Let’s do a more thorough inspection of the ship. After confirming that there are no other strange things or living beings, we can return to the ship… We also need to land on Europa to investigate some ancient civilization ruins?”
…
Things turned out this way.
Because there were only four girls, compared to such a spacious ship, the manpower was clearly insufficient… so it was impossible for everyone to flip through every book and conduct a carpet search of every room.
However, judging from the books that were opened, they were indeed as the girls had predicted.
…
And there was no movement on the ship.
Even the robot dolls used for service had all disappeared.
Bai Ye also investigated the ship’s surveillance footage, but the clues obtained from it were not even as comprehensive as during X-12… At least during X-12, the girls could still see the process of their companions turning into objects.
But the internal surveillance footage of the Cygnus indicated that after a flash of white light, everyone had disappeared.
There was a gap of about 1 hour, and even the ship’s black box and various other testing instruments could not find the recorded data for that period.
And after that, although the system returned to normal. But to this day, there were no signs of the people on board returning.
…
This investigation result was undoubtedly very frustrating.
But at least one thing the girls could confirm.
That was that the anomaly from the Cygnus this time did not seem to be caused by an evolved entity.
And all the people on board had not turned into objects, but rather seemed to have been transferred by something.
Since that was the case…
Perhaps there would be other clues at the nearby Europa base?
…
