Chapter 104: Leader of the Wolf Pack
Bailu followed the attendant with trepidation. If Li Wen hadn’t been able to strike up a conversation with her from time to time, she would have probably started planning her escape route.
Even though this was their plan, being caught red-handed cheating in a casino was still quite unsettling.
The club attendant led Bailu to a luxurious room and then withdrew.
“It is our neglect that you grace our club with your presence.” It wasn’t until the voice came that Bailu realized there was another person in the room. He was sitting on a comfortable sofa, looking like a classic Leicester resident, gloomy and serious. If there was any difference, it was that the man’s eyes resembled those of a beast. “However, your reckless use of magic here, do you not place our Wolf Pack Club in high regard?”
The person before her should be the person in charge of the club’s underground casino, and definitely a Transcendent of no low power. Especially when he finished his last sentence and looked directly at Bailu with his wild pupils, the feeling of being stared at by the natural predator of a fierce beast made Bailu shiver and her scalp tingle.
Bailu conveyed all this to Li Wen. After a while, he gave new instructions.
“Tell him: You have no intention of making enemies with the wolves, but you are here for a very important matter.”
Bailu followed suit and recited, “I am not your enemy, I am here for a more important matter.”
“Oh?” The casino manager was somewhat surprised. He had initially thought this bold mage just wanted to make money at the casino. Now, it seemed that was not the case, which somewhat piqued his interest. “You don’t need to be so evasive with me. The soundproofing in this room has been specially treated, and it’s difficult even for other Transcendants and異類 to eavesdrop.”
If what this mage said was interesting enough, and she was willing to join the club, then the transgressions she had committed did not need to be pursued. As for the money she obtained through unusual means… that was the privilege of Transcendants.
“Are you qualified?”
Bailu subconsciously followed Li Wen’s instructions, so she asked without thinking.
As soon as these words were spoken, the entire room fell silent.
When the casino staff told him that a mage was dominating the gambling tables, he was still wondering which Transcendent had stumbled into the path, unaware of the danger. Now, it seemed that this Wild Mage was not only unaware of the danger but also very ill-mannered.
“Are you talking about me?”
The manager looked at Bailu coldly, and a smell resembling rust began to spread in the room.
Bailu’s heart pounded, but it was too late to apologize now that they had come this far. So, she continued to follow Li Wen’s instructions and said, “Let your head wolf come and see me. Your words alone are not enough.”
Head wolf?
The manager chuckled mockingly, laughing at Bailu, and also at himself.
“You are not qualified.”
The Leader of the Wolf Pack of the club, even for the club’s senior members, rarely had the right to see his true form. For a Wild Mage who didn’t know where she came from to dare to say such a thing was truly ignorant of heaven and earth.
“The Platinum Council does not have the qualification either?”
Bailu said disdainfully, although she had no idea what the Platinum Council was. She was just imitating Li Wen’s tone.
The Platinum Council?
The manager thought for a long time but couldn’t recall which Transcendent organization in Leicester, or even across Arthur, this term referred to. He gave up thinking and stood up, realizing that listening to this Wild Mage’s mad ramblings here was too foolish.
However, the moment he stood up and was about to kick her out, his eyes suddenly widened, and then he let out a faint whimper as if in extreme pain.
With the strange sound of bones deforming, his human body began to expand, every muscle writhing madly, and dense, metallic-looking animal fur emerged from his pores. In a short while, the manager was no longer in the room, leaving only an incredibly tall, towering black giant wolf standing on its hind legs.
The black giant wolf stared intently at Bailu, its dark green pupils seeming to burn with a yellowish-green fire. Its body was so enormous that it had to stoop to avoid breaking the ceiling.
Bailu swallowed. Stared at by the giant wolf, her whole body turned cold, and she couldn’t even muster the thought of escape. It was as if the other party was the most powerful hunter, and once targeted, no prey could escape from its grasp.
There was no doubt about the other party’s identity; it was the Leader of the Wolf Pack.
“Are you the Platinum Council?”
The giant wolf’s throat moved, and it let out a deep, hoarse voice.
Bailu nodded and said, feigning composure:
“I am.”
“No, you are not!” The giant wolf bared its dagger-like, sharp fangs, and foul-smelling saliva slowly dripped from its maw. “You are just a pathetic puppet, controlled by strings. The coward hiding behind you, controlling your every move, might have some slight connection with the Platinum Council.”
“Believe whatever you want.”
Bailu retorted stiffly. This was something she said herself. Since the giant wolf “emerged” from that manager, Li Wen had been silent.
“Let the coward behind you come and see me; otherwise, I will kill you, gnaw your bones to pieces, and smear the marrow on the ground.”
That’s it?
Bailu didn’t care about such threats. For Players, death was the most insignificant punishment. Since the giant wolf had realized Li Wen’s existence, Bailu thought this mission might end in failure.
But just as she was about to verbally humiliate the Leader of the Wolf Pack one last time, Li Wen’s voice sounded again: “Tell it that I have information about the ‘Rebirth Pebble’.”
Bailu was startled and quickly said, “I… no, we know about the ‘Rebirth Pebble’.”
Upon hearing this, the giant wolf’s pupils contracted. It reached out its mighty paw to grab Bailu, but as it extended halfway, it quickly retracted.
It didn’t speak anymore, cautiously looking Bailu up and down, as if trying to find some flaw on her. After a long time, the giant wolf let out a beast-like whisper: “Where is the location of the ‘Rebirth Pebble’?”
“First of all, that’s just information. Secondly… as the Leader of the Wolf Pack, don’t you even abide by the rules you set yourself?”
Internal transactions among Transcendants of the Wolf Pack Club must guarantee fairness, and even high-level Transcendants cannot forcibly buy or sell based on their strength.
The giant wolf stared fixedly at Bailu: “You are not an internal member of the club.”
Bailu took out a wolf’s tooth, or rather, a bone shaped like a wolf’s tooth.
“How do you know I’m not?”
The giant wolf smelled death, slaughter, and the Cold Blood potion on the bone. Some unruly members of the club had secretly sold potions for huge profits. They deserved to die, but their deaths were causing trouble for it, which was truly annoying.
It angrily raised its fist and tore apart the sofa, luxurious tables and chairs, and expensive decorations in the room into pieces, all of which happened in an instant.
If it were coming for Bailu, she believed she would have no room for resistance.
“What do you want from me?”
The giant wolf looked at Bailu dimly, but its gaze was not directed at her, but at the person “behind” her.
