Chapter 127: Battle Begins
This was not unexpected for White Star Fangs.
Ever since their guild contacted the Lagovin Family and thus provoked the Disciplinary Bureau, those dog-like NPCs had been watching them. White Star Fangs speculated that there were always informants from the Disciplinary Bureau around the few guild members who had shown themselves.
After those two idiots wreaked havoc here, the forces of the Disciplinary Bureau had already been mobilized, and now they had arrived just as his ritual was about to be completed.
“You two, stop them!”
Without any wasted words, a guild member with the game name White Star Potato Chips, wielding a rapier, and White Star Little Jiu, a High Mountain Race player, met the investigators in black windbreakers together.
The investigators of the Leicester Disciplinary Bureau were usually paired up, so White Star Fangs was not worried about his two teammates being instantly killed.
This time was enough for him to complete the ritual.
White Star Fangs silently recited the incantation, and the scroll in his hand slowly melted like a burning candle.
Around him was a ritual magic circle drawn with blood, in which lay several NPCs, all still breathing, intended as the final sacrifices; further out were the long-dead security constables, now of no value, whom he could consider transforming into walking corpses after the ritual, barely usable as combat power.
And directly above White Star Fangs, there was a rift that had torn through the void, from which gray mist constantly emanated, until it enveloped the entire Old Town.
As White Star Fangs’ incantation reached its final passage, a roar not of this world came from the void rift above his head.
Tendrils, flesh-colored, covered in slime, and bristling with barbs, extended from the rift, swiftly wrapped around the sacrifices, and then quickly retracted, pulling the NPCs into the rift.
The rift then closed, but White Star Fangs immediately heard the sound of bones shattering and muscles squeezing, a realistic chewing sound that made him slightly uncomfortable.
This damned game, why did it have to be so realistic…
At this point, the ritual was considered complete.
But before White Star Fangs could relax, a huge roar came from outside, and the solid walls of the Security Bureau were breached by this roar, leaving a large gap.
Choosing this location for the ritual was deliberate; it was far from the Disciplinary Bureau in the Old Town, and also the safest and most stable place in the Old Town, with the strongest buildings, suitable for defensive combat. But now, this idea was clearly a bit impractical.
White Star Fangs looked towards the gap, and the fight between the other two and the Disciplinary Bureau investigators also stopped, to avoid being sneak attacked by a third party while fighting.
As the dust and mist outside the wall slowly drifted away, the scene behind the gap was revealed.
“Tsk tsk, keep fighting, you guys. If you don’t fight, how can we pick up the kills.”
A somewhat arrogant voice sounded, and only then did White Star Fangs see a player with short, dyed blonde hair standing in the rainy night. What made White Star Fangs uneasy was that behind the other party stood a group of players, numbering at least twenty or more.
“Yan Zhuofeng!” White Star Fangs directly shouted the real name of the short blonde player, “Are you really determined to offend us?”
Yan Zhuofeng, commonly known in-game as Rebel or Dog Slayer Guild, was a somewhat famous Lone Wolf Player in the online gaming circle. Because his gaming skills were decent, and he always looked down on guilds, he would always oppose guilds or professional alliances in every game he played, causing a lot of trouble for major guilds, hence he was highly respected by ordinary Lone Wolf Players.
White Star Fangs, now encountering him, could only curse his bad luck inwardly.
“Kneel for your Lord Yan, and I’ll leave immediately.” The blonde guy chuckled, and the players behind him echoed and egged him on.
In fact, this group of players had just come to watch the fun; it would be even better if they could pick up some benefits by chance.
As the situation became tense, appearing to sense that their numbers were a bit off, the two investigators from the Disciplinary Bureau exchanged glances and quickly fled.
White Star Fangs ignored them and took the opportunity to draw his magic staff and cast a spell.
Aether fluctuation!
An invisible shockwave instantly struck the blonde guy. His expression changed, and as he rolled over, the shockwave hit a player behind him, shattering them instantly.
Casualties appeared within the player group, and they immediately became unhappy. They had only come to watch, not to die. Some had the idea of retreating, some wanted to confront White Star Fangs to demand an explanation, while others were fishing in troubled waters…
“Playing sneak attack, huh?”
The blonde guy snorted coldly, and his figure immediately blended into the darkness and disappeared.
“It’s the Shadow Path! Be careful!”
White Star Potato Chips shouted a warning, focusing his attention and being vigilant of any unusual movements around him. But White Star Fangs did not have that patience; he took out a scroll of illumination magic and tore it open.
A beam of light swept across, illuminating the invisible blonde guy. But seeing this, White Star Fangs’ heart tightened, because the other party was already only a few steps away from him.
A sharp short knife pierced the air, heading straight for White Star Fangs’ face.
“Die.”
Like the whisper of death, White Star Fangs had no intention of resisting. He activated the magic shield on his equipment to block the damage, then shouted piercingly, “What are you guys standing around for! Help!”
In reality, White Star Little Jiu had already rushed to help, but he was too slow and couldn’t make it in time. As White Star Fangs was attacked, he picked up a table leg from the ground and threw it over.
Under the powerful strength of the High Mountain Race, a mere wooden table leg was thrown with the force of a catapult.
Seeing that the single strike did not achieve a kill, the blonde guy did not linger to fight. He pulled back, dodged the table leg, and at the same time twisted and engaged in close combat with the pursuing White Star Potato Chips.
The short knife carved a beautiful arc in the air, colliding with the rapier, producing a harsh sound of metal friction.
To the blonde guy’s surprise, this guy who looked like an assassin had even greater strength than him. His short knife was actually at a disadvantage against the rapier.
However, the blonde guy soon realized that not only in strength, but he was also inferior to White Star Potato Chips in speed and technique.
White Star Potato Chips lightly flicked, directly threw the short sword away, and at the same time thrust out a sword, piercing the blonde guy’s neck.
If the blonde guy had not twisted his body at the last moment, causing the sword to only graze the skin, he would likely have been waiting for revival by now.
The blonde guy quickly pulled away, not daring to continue the entanglement.
At this point, he had entered an awkward position. Facing him was White Star Potato Chips, whose physical abilities and techniques were superior to his. To his back-left was the approaching High Mountain Race player White Star Little Jiu. To his back-right was White Star Fangs, who had recovered and begun casting.
Looking at this, it seemed that he only had the possibility of defeat… right?
The blonde guy grinned.
Seeing the favorable situation, White Star Fangs was about to say something to taunt the damned Lone Wolf Player, but the next moment, his vision went dark…
And White Star Potato Chips had seen the entire process. Just as White Star Fangs was casting, an arrow flew in from outside and hit White Star Fangs, then a fierce explosion instantly killed White Star Fangs on the spot.
Only then did White Star Potato Chips realize that if it were just a player of the Shadow Path, how could they have created such a huge commotion earlier?
The blonde guy on the opposite side smiled faintly, and his figure instantly disappeared.
The skill cooldown was over, and now it was his turn.
