Chapter 136: The Three Elements of Transcendence
The golden-haired elf elegantly held an umbrella, her smile beautiful and her expression calm, like a young lady out for a stroll at night, if one ignored the corpses strewn behind her and the blood being washed away by the rain.
Why did she appear here?
Li Wen’s confusion was extinguished the moment she appeared. Without thinking, she must have been here for the Sage Ovum Sheath as well.
“Thank you for your assistance, Your Highness,” Moria said, finishing the enchantment and putting away his weapon.
Victoria smiled slightly, “No, it was Lance who made the move. It’s because of Lance’s presence that I dared to come out in this situation.”
Upon hearing this, the two looked at the knight clad in full armor, who remained silent.
Moria’s eyes changed slightly. He hadn’t noticed it before, thinking he was just an ordinary knight. Now, looking at the armor worn by this unknown kingdom knight, he saw that it was covered in strange, almost imperceptible patterns. These patterns didn’t look like enchantments… they seemed more like some kind of solidified curse?
He didn’t know if this was due to the knight’s individuality or if all kingdom knights were like this, so he didn’t dwell on it and instead asked, “Does Your Highness know their origin?”
Victoria’s gaze remained fixed on Li Wen, only looking at Moria when he spoke.
“Of course, when I decided on this trip, I made sure to understand Leicester’s situation,” the princess smiled slightly. “They all come from an organization called the Wolf Pack Club, a group of Transcendent beings operating between legality and illegality… however, I am more inclined to classify them as potential transcendent criminals.”
“An illegal Transcendent organization within the city?” Moria frowned. “Why would Leicester gather such a large group of illegal Transcendent beings?”
It was another matter that the local Disciplinary Bureau tolerated or even yielded to their existence; that was a failure in their own supervision. But the presence of groups of Transcendent beings was a signal in itself. The birth of a Transcendent being was due to multiple factors. If one were to extract the few essential components that would inevitably be needed, they should be: a guiding path, the favor of a Pillar God, and the desire for transcendence.
Any path of transcendence requires guidance from predecessors, but one can only impart paths below their own stage to others; this is a strict rule. Therefore, in a Transcendent organization, sect, or society, the majority of the main members are usually low-stage Transcendent apprentices. The more powerful one is, the rarer they become.
Not all Transcendent beings are willing to share their paths with others. If they do, it must be for a greater benefit.
And the so-called favor of a Pillar God is, in another sense, affinity in lineage.
Just as those who served the Glor were all benevolent and willing to dedicate themselves, those who pursued truth were generally agile, calm, good at thinking and finding solutions. This might not be their nature, but rather that the Pillar Gods chose them, just as the Pillar Gods chose this world.
Life is as abundant as sand, but only those chosen by the Pillar Gods have the opportunity to embark on the path.
After fulfilling these two requirements, whether a mortal can embark on the path and advance to transcendence depends on their desires. These are not ordinary desires; they need to be strong enough and not easily satisfied.
It must suddenly stir at a certain moment in the early morning or evening, whispering in your ear requests to break free from existing constraints and ascend higher. Its murmur can pierce the eardrums and easily reach the deepest part of your heart, a place you haven’t accessed or imagined, void yet incredibly real.
Clearly, not everyone can possess such strong and indescribable desires.
Only by possessing all three elements simultaneously can a mere mortal have the possibility of transcending the level of life and embarking on the path. Therefore, Transcendent beings in any region are scarce and rare, and they often consider themselves mysterious.
Excluding legitimate churches and societies that have established proper cooperative relationships with local governments, if a Transcendent force wishes to develop and grow rapidly in a country within an order system, and simultaneously gather a considerable number of Transcendent beings, the only thing Moria could imagine was heretical cults adhering to heretical transactions.
For instance, Dark Dawn once extensively spread its teachings in the lower strata of the Kingdom, sharing its doctrines, forbidden knowledge, paths, and rituals. This act caused countless Transcendent beings of the Dark Lineage or general Dark Followers to sprout in Arthur’s homeland, and the impact of this still plagues various parts of the Kingdom.
This organization called the Wolf Pack Club clearly had no legitimate identity to recruit new members. However, seeing that their numbers in even one operation were around dozens, its total membership evidently could not be possessed by an illegal Transcendent organization that silently developed in the shadows.
“I’m sorry, I’ve just arrived in Leicester, and I don’t know much about this matter. Perhaps I should ask Director Jeffrey,” Victoria said calmly, tilting her head.
Does she really not know?
Moria chose to believe. He didn’t have the mindset of leaving matters of another country to their own people. If he had the chance, Moria still hoped he could intervene himself.
“They… the Transcendent beings of the Wolf Pack Club, and another group of unfamiliar outsiders are rampaging, fighting, and contending in this city, and they have also taken away the item I must bring back. Director Jeffrey has already led his subordinates to stop them, but it is not enough… If you two have no other matters, could you do me a small favor and accompany me to retrieve that item?” Saying this, the princess smiled slightly, “Of course, as a reward for your thanks, you will both be satisfied.”
Moria was staying in Leicester temporarily for this very reason, but he didn’t immediately agree. Instead, he looked at Li Wen.
Perhaps it was a錯覺, but he always felt that this mysterious Transcendent being of the Path of Light Chasing seemed to have a rather unfavorable opinion of Princess Victoria… or rather, a cautious one, which was why he wanted to ask for her opinion.
Li Wen nodded slightly, saying nothing. She was still contemplating the previous events. Whether she acted alone or with Moria, or more people, made no difference to her.
Moria was not surprised by this. He could also see that the girl seemed quite interested in the item that was suspected to be the Sage Ovum Sheath. The reason he had hoped Li Wen would stay by his side earlier was not only to ensure the safety of the Transcendent being of the Path of Light Chasing returning to the Holy See intact but also to prevent the girl from contending for the suspected Sage Ovum Sheath alone.
It was very likely a trap. If she were caught in it, she might encounter unimaginable unexpected situations, and even risk her life. Moria’s intuition told him so.
Coming back to his senses, Moria nodded gently and said, “You don’t need to worry about the reward. Even without Your Highness’s invitation, I wouldn’t stand by and do nothing.”
