Chapter 142 Failed Again
Li Wen felt that she had faintly touched upon the truth of players descending into another world, but before she could delve deeper, a sudden loud noise disrupted her thoughts.
The dilapidated warehouse was torn open like scrap paper, and a giant black wolf burst into the warehouse. It was covered in wounds, but its emerald pupils held no fear or surprise, only cold-blooded brutality.
The black wolf seemed to have a target. It ignored everyone else and went straight for Edward, charging with terrifying momentum like an armored battle vehicle. Anyone who dared to block its path would be mercilessly crushed into powder.
Edward’s heart turned to ice. He imagined himself being torn to shreds and jumped up in fear. He didn’t dare to watch any longer. He used his remaining Mana to transform into a rat and scurried around, seeking a way to survive.
The others, seeing this, either looked bewildered or were hesitant, not yet understanding why such a huge black wolf had suddenly appeared. Li Wen, meanwhile, watched with a cold eye, not having any thought of stealing the kill.
Edward in his rat form was incredibly agile, scurrying from one end of the warehouse to the other in mere seconds. But the black wolf was even faster. In the blink of an eye, it smashed through all obstacles and appeared before him. With a gentle flick of its tail, it batted Edward back into his human form.
Edward fell to the ground, his bones feeling as if they had all shattered. Every slight movement sent piercing pain through him.
“I warned you, Edward,” the black wolf said, transforming back into human form as well. He wore serious clothing and had a gloomy expression. “You can never escape the pack.”
Edward was too weak to speak. Every time he opened his mouth, he coughed out blood and shattered internal organ fragments. He could only look on despairingly and powerlessly as the figure slowly approached him.
“That’s?”
Bailu’s pupils contracted. She recognized the black wolf’s human form. The person was the Agent from the Wolf Pack Club’s underground casino. At that time, Bailu had already seen him transform into a werewolf, but back then, he gave her more of a hunter’s coldness and danger than the brutality of a beast.
The Agent easily lifted Edward and said in a chilling tone, “Edward, tell me… where is that thing?”
“Cough cough… Is this… the Wolf Leader’s order?” Edward gasped for air, the blood of the荒林 werewolf pumping madly from his heart. The wounds on his body began to heal slowly, and the itching and searing pain of broken bones forcefully knitting together distorted his expression, making him sweat profusely. “Please… for all I’ve done for the club…”
“The Master’s orders?” A flicker of surprise crossed the Agent’s beast-like pupils. “Just assume it is. Now, hand over the item, and then die in peace… of course, I will send people to take good care of your family, since you were once a member of the pack.”
Mentioning his family, Edward became agitated. Everything he did was for his family, for his parents, wife, and daughters. He was willing to make any sacrifice or commit any crime.
But the problem was, this guy… could this damned, cold-blooded, greedy beast’s words be trusted even for a sliver? If there was any truth to what he said, how could Edward have ended up in this state?
With this thought, Edward let out a bitter laugh and, gathering all his strength and courage, spat a mouthful of thick blood onto the Agent’s face.
“You wish!”
The Agent’s expression instantly contorted from being sprayed with blood. He struggled to suppress the rage and wildness within him.
“It’s fine, I’ll know even if you don’t tell me… You were fleeing so desperately, it seems that thing should be on you. It makes sense, after all, it’s such a precious item.” The Agent took out a handkerchief and wiped the blood from his face, speaking with feigned ease. “But there’s nowhere for you to store it, not even a magic pocket anywhere… meaning, there’s only one place you could put it… Edward, you swallowed it, didn’t you?”
The Agent’s fingernails began to grow longer, soon reaching the length and size of a dagger. He placed his nails on Edward’s abdomen, watching the fear and sadness in the other man’s eyes with great pleasure.
With a slight push, he dug his nails into Edward’s abdomen and slowly churned them around. He could already feel a hard object. His guess was correct; Edward, the fool, had indeed swallowed the item.
However, compared to snatching the treasure, the Agent clearly enjoyed the thrill of torturing and killing others more.
It was at this moment that Li Wen finally made her move. She completed her prayer for thirsting for light and summoned a gray moth. The moth flew directly towards the Agent. Its movements seemed slow, but in an instant, it reached the Agent.
The Agent’s expression turned cold. He took Edward and retreated ten steps backward, but the moth still landed in his eyes in an instant. It felt like a slight burn from fire, but there were no other anomalies.
What kind of spell is this?
A bad premonition flashed through the Agent’s mind, an extreme discomfort akin to a beast facing flames or prey facing a hunter.
However, before he could make any move, a person wearing a raincoat and holding a flaming longsword jumped in from the large opening in the warehouse roof. Behind him followed a majestic knight clad in full armor.
Damn it! How could they be so fast!
The Agent’s soul was in his mouth. He couldn’t handle either of these individuals alone, let alone two against one. He had already been seriously injured in several previous encounters with them. If it weren’t for the strong life force of an異種 hunter, coupled with a few dirty tricks to narrowly escape, he probably would have died before even finding Edward.
Seeing them advancing on him with swords drawn without explanation, the Agent had no choice but to raise Edward in front of him, hoping this weakling could shield him from some of the damage.
Moria frowned slightly and forcibly stopped his attack, not knowing Edward’s background.
However, the Kingdom’s Knight had no such concerns. The armor on his arm shone brightly, revealing intricate incantations. Mercury flowed within the incantations and condensed in the Knight’s hand, instantly transforming into a sharp silver spear about two meters long.
With a wave of his hand, the Knight threw the silver spear. The spear broke through the air, leaving a bright afterimage on everyone’s retinas. Then, like a hot knife cutting through butter, it pierced Edward and sent the Agent behind him flying several meters before pinning him to the ground.
Only then did he stop his charge, holding his weapon and slowly walking towards them.
The silver spear had pierced the Agent’s abdominal cavity and possibly his lung, causing him to bleed constantly. This level of damage was not enough to kill him, and the Agent thought so too. Throwing the spear was to prevent him from scurrying around like a rat again. But what was truly fatal to the Agent was that he had not retrieved the item from Edward’s stomach.
He had damnably failed!
