Chapter 43 Amber Temple
[Fallen Shadow Potion]
[Consumable – Potion – Magic (Blue)]
[Those who worship the shadow will mix Toad’s Milk, Devil’s Nettle, Snake Incense… with special techniques in a bottle, and place it in the shadows on a moonless night, hidden from sunlight, for thirty-three days, thereby imprisoning the devil’s shadow within the potion to spy on the secrets of the shadow.]
[After a special ritual, it can be used as a potion for promotion on the Shadow Path. If the potion is drunk directly, the soul will forcibly fall into the realm of shadow.]
Li Wen opened the seal of the bottle and drank the potion without hesitation.
The Fallen Shadow Potion was very cold upon entering the mouth, with an overall texture similar to mint-flavored jelly, bitter in taste with a slight aftertaste.
After drinking the potion, Li Wen closed her eyes and began to recite the many secret scriptures and incantations of the Shadow Path.
She began to feel cold, an unexplainable chill spreading from all around her. The cold, hard ground beneath Li Wen’s feet began to soften, and then, as if hard ice melting into water, the ground turned into a viscous and cold liquid.
Li Wen’s body sank into it and began to fall endlessly. At this moment, Li Wen activated her extraordinary trait, Reverse in Shadow. Her falling trend instantly stopped. When she opened her eyes again, she was standing in her original position. In front of her was a church-like building.
Its size was tens of times larger than the Candle Sun Church in Ark Town. Its overall style was the same as other buildings in Amber City. A towering bronze door stood before her, blocking any person from entering. On the door was a relief of the World Tree, which was withering. Amber twilight enveloped the treetop, which was the symbol of the Twilight System.
This huge church was the Amber Temple, the residence of the Twilight Witch in the mortal realm.
It was said that after the Twilight Pillar collapsed, the Primordial Codex of Ending, which contained all the secrets of the Twilight System, was preserved within by the believers, isolated from the world until today.
To open this bronze door, it required the fresh blood of three Long-lived, and the approval of both the Amber City Council House and the Witch Scolding House. This was something no one could achieve, even in Li Wen’s previous life.
The Strategy Team also did not open this door. They entered the Amber Temple through another, more crude and savage method. They attempted to blast the door open directly with high-level magic. As a result, the door was not blasted open, but the outer wall of the temple was blown down.
This act was not met with obstruction from the Long-lived in the inner city. Instead, it ushered in another, even more terrifying threat – the Daughters of Amber, who were in a deep slumber within the temple, were awakened by the actions of the Strategy Team members.
The advance team of the Strategy Team that explored Amber City did not survive that time.
Afterwards, the Strategy Team entered the temple and, after obtaining the design drawings of the Amber Temple, they roughly devised several different methods to enter the Amber Temple without the need of the Long-lived.
One of them was to use the extraordinary trait “Reverse in Shadow.”
When someone possessing the Reverse in Shadow trait drank the Fallen Shadow Potion, Reverse in Shadow would temporarily transform into its superior trait, “Shadow Deep Walker,” until it next came into contact with sunlight.
And Shadow Deep Walker could allow a person to truly transform into a shadow to act, allowing them to pass through any form of obstruction, portal, or wall, and reach any place that a shadow could reach.
Including the bronze door of the Amber Temple.
Li Wen recalled the various details of the strategy, took a deep breath, and used her trait.
The world began to lose its color in her eyes. Whether it was the amber twilight or the dead, pitch-black color of the buildings, everything in Li Wen’s eyes became gray, white, and even colorless.
Li Wen extended her palm but could see nothing, only her shadow on the ground mimicking the same movement.
Is this what it feels like to become a shadow?
Li Wen felt no change in herself. She glanced at the giant bronze door and cautiously walked forward.
Her shadow passed through the bronze door without surprise, and her seemingly non-existent body also entered the bronze door, entering the Amber Temple.
The interior of the temple had no extra details; a long corridor led directly to the inner hall.
Li Wen did not act rashly. She looked up and saw inverted figures sealed in huge amber, hanging above the temple’s corridor.
These women within the amber had no faces, their bodies were naked and uncovered, and their entire bodies were carved with strange root-like patterns.
These were the slumbering Daughters of Amber. They were everywhere from the temple corridor to the inner hall. Once the amber shells sealing them dissolved, it would indicate that they had awakened and would kill all life that invaded the temple.
These Daughters of Amber were eternal creations, incapable of being killed by any means, and could unleash numerous abilities of the Twilight System without limitation.
Even Siswell, a powerful Archmage at Stage Seven, would not be certain of victory when facing a Daughter of Amber alone, let alone the fact that the number of Daughters of Amber was not small.
The best way to deal with them was not to wake them up. As long as Li Wen remained in the shadow state, there should be no problem.
Thinking of this, Li Wen moved silently towards the inner hall.
When the Amber Temple was first built, it served as the residence of the Twilight Witch and a pilgrimage site for Twilight believers, so there were not too many dangers.
Thus, Li Wen easily passed through the corridor and arrived at the inner hall.
At the entrance of the inner hall stood a tall statue of a witch. Like the Daughters of Amber, the statue had no face and was entirely covered in a cloak, with its hands in a prayer pose.
Only the Twilight Witch herself could have a statue in the Amber Temple.
Looking at the statue, Li Wen felt a sense of unfamiliar familiarity.
This was strange. She should have seen this statue for the first time. Before this, even the intelligence of the Strategy Team in her previous life had no information about this statue.
Perhaps this was just an ordinary idol with only symbolic meaning? But this was impossible. The Strategy Team had recorded every brick and stone of the Amber Temple, let alone a statue of the Twilight Witch, which held immense symbolic and practical significance?
Li Wen felt a vague sense of unease. The Primordial Codex of Ending was placed in the inner hall ahead. As long as she passed through here and entered the inner hall, she could obtain the Primordial Codex of Ending. At that time, the Daughters of Amber and other threats would have nothing to do with her.
Thinking this, Li Wen did not turn back. She tried to detour around the statue to enter the inner hall.
But at that moment, the “statue” turned its head to look at her.
Li Wen also noticed this detail. She froze in place, her body cold, not daring to make any rash moves. Due to her being a Shadow Deep Walker, everything in her eyes appeared gray, white, and even colorless. Therefore, there was no difference between living people and statues in her eyes…
This means that what was in front of her was not a statue at all… but a Daughter of Amber who had already awakened.
