Black Summoner – Chapter 405

– Demon Capital Grelverelka Training Ground

Several days have passed since I allowed the survivors to escape and had Mudo and Boga pursue them. Personnel from the Doktoria Kingdom finally arrived, and the full-scale restoration of Demon Capital Grelverelka could begin. I could have rebuilt the Improbable Black Fortress from scratch, but that would have had issues with the color scheme. While it’s certainly sturdy enough as a fortress, it’s too stark to be a town for the people of this country to live in. As my father-in-law and the others have shown, even Evil Gods have hearts, and everyone prefers a warm and welcoming place to live.

So, with the reconstruction efforts underway, I found myself with some free time. As I mentioned before, I intend to use this free time to fulfill the mission I was tasked with. There’s a lot to do, including fine-tuning Shutra’s Golems. But the most important thing to do first is, of course—

“Kelvin, do your best!”

“Well, considering you barely managed a draw against Papa, I expect you to clear this with ease.”

—The passionate battle against Reinhard and Vegalzelld, the Four Heavenly Kings of Demon, which I couldn’t finish before. I won’t be satisfied until I deal with this. I can’t help it.

“Honestly, you’re worried, yet you act so nonchalant.”

“What are you talking about?”

“You were teaching him so earnestly just now.”

“…Kelvin will be Sister Sera’s husband in the future, won’t he? If he gets killed by Serge due to being insufficiently strong, I’ll be too distracted. I’m just putting in everything I can while I have the chance. Besides, the Apostles beyond the Fifth Pillar are all outliers in various ways—”

“That’s what I mean by not being honest, he he~”

“Don’t poke my cheeks!”

While Sera and Bel were noisily watching from the spectator seats, my focus was on the Evil Gods before me. I couldn’t afford to look bad.

“Vega, keep up with me!”

“I know! Form Release!”

Reinhard took out a sketchbook and began drawing something with his fingertips, while Vegalzelld’s aura immediately changed. I deliberately hadn’t gotten information from Rion or Shutra, whom I’d fought on my way back, so I was excited.

“Alright, I’m counting on you to go all out.”

“You idiot! Do you think I have any spare time against a man approved by Gustav-sama! I’m going all out from the start! Eight-legged Evil God!”

Reinhard opened his sketchbook towards me, revealing a drawing of a monster that looked like a octopus. It was a pencil sketch, I suppose. It looked incredibly realistic. While I was thinking this with my parallel thought, the drawing began to swell…

“I’ll take care of him!”

Vegalzelld shouted as he charged straight at me, blocking my view of the sketchbook. He clenched his four fists and unleashed a barrage of rapid blows at me with considerable speed.

“Ngh!?”

However, the storm of blows never reached me. My fists were repelled by a wall of air, sending Vegalzelld stumbling back from the recoil.

(This barrier Bel taught me is really interesting.)

Surrounding me was the S-Rank Green Magic, Viscous Wind Reflecting Barrier, the original magic of Bel’s Azure Wind Reflecting Barrier. While it lacked the effect of my Unique Skill, ‘Color Tone Infringement’, allowing me to add extra effects to touched targets, the rubbery wind barrier that protected the Demon Lord’s Castle from Efil’s bombing and Mudoph’s attack was still potent. The narrower the range of the barrier, the stronger its counteracting effect against external forces became. The current barrier was small enough to envelop me. An attack of that magnitude wouldn’t be able to break it.

“And then, Fuh!”

“Guh!”

I imbued my kick with Green Magic wind and unleashed it with all my might at Vegalzelld’s exposed abdomen. This combat style was also one of Bel’s teachings. Though still clumsy, I could now add magic not only to my punches but also to my kicks. Currently, I could only do so with wind-related spells from Green Magic, but it was quite effective.

“—! G-g-g-gaaaahh!?”

By concentrating multiple impacts into a single direction, even my weak kick sent the heavy Vegalzelld flying uncontrollably. It could also be applied in other ways, like adding a slash, just as Bel does.

(Next… an octopus.)

As Vegalzelld’s figure disappeared into the distance, a giant blue octopus appeared in my vision. Was this the drawing from the sketchbook earlier? It looked just like a real monster from any angle.

“Go, Eight-legged Evil God!”

It seemed so. The creature, called the Eight-legged Evil God, wriggled its powerful tentacles, trying to crush me by smashing the ground itself from all directions. However, its power was weaker than Vegalzelld’s punches. Naturally, it was blocked by the barrier and couldn’t reach me. Or perhaps it had a different intention?

“Zugaahhh!”

A large amount of octopus ink, enough to engulf the training ground, filled the air. While the barrier protected me from getting directly hit, my vision was completely obscured. The only thing visible was the octopus tentacles through the barrier. It seemed to be wrapping several tentacles around the barrier, using its suckers to grip it. The plan was to avoid the recoil and forcefully compress the barrier. A palpable, unpleasant tension permeated the air outside the barrier.

(It’s drifting in the air, so it’s probably poison or gas. It looks snake-like… For now, I’ll just blow it away.)

I conjured a strong gust of wind with magic and directed the surrounding air in a specific direction.

“Ugh…!? Reinhard, you bastard!”

That direction was where Vegalzelld was. Vegalzelld, whom I had blown away earlier, seemed to be recovering. So, I’ll have him experience the nature of this air in my stead.

“This guy… my poison…! Sorry! But you can probably cure it yourself!”

“Removing harmful substances from within takes time— Look ahead!”

“Aaaargh!?”

I dispelled the Viscous Wind Reflecting Barrier and charged directly at Reinhard. While this barrier is convenient, its drawback is that it keeps me in place. I have to either expand its range or dispel it to move. Oh, the Eight-legged Evil God? I unleashed a Gale Blade the moment I dispelled it, and it turned into a piece of paper. Given its origin, it seemed to have paper-thin armor.

“Ga, Great Fang Evil God!”

Reinhard immediately pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket. On it was a realistic drawing of an elephant, or rather, a mammoth. He had prepared it in advance; he was quite thorough.

—Zugaann!

A colossal monster descended with a ground tremor. I didn’t miss the poisonous gas-like substance emanating from Reinhard himself amidst the dust. Perhaps the mammoth monster is immune to poison because it’s made of paper? Despite being close to the poison, it seemed unaffected. Well, the result would be the same either way. I’ll just send the poison towards Vegalzelld.

“You won’t get away with that!”

“Woah.”

He unleashed a beam from his third eye. Can that eye do something like that? I underestimated him because of the distance. I was a little surprised.

“You dodged it! Hey, my Great Fang Evil God!”

With a large target, the Gale Blade was easy to hit. Like the giant octopus, the mammoth turned into several pieces of paper and was sent flowing towards Vegalzelld along with the poisonous gas. Ah, it looks like the gas went into his third eye.

“Bel, did you train him properly?”

“It’s taken shape, hasn’t it? Are you not satisfied?”

“No, I was talking about Reinhard and Vegalzelld. When you resurrected them, you started their special training from scratch, didn’t you?”

“…Papa worked the hardest.”

After that, I was able to put my lingering feelings to rest without any problems.

The cover for “Black Summoner 4: Innocent Ice Princess” has been revealed.
