Chapter 65: There Actually Are Assassins
The cooperation between the two was seamless. Xia Feng even used the Bloodworm to dissolve and devour Li Siwen’s phone, so the Earl couldn’t possibly know it was them.
“Capture her,” the Earl said, looking at the three people in the corner.
Mu Qingtong’s beautiful eyes were calm, Xia Feng raised an eyebrow, and Mushroom’s face tensed.
A large group of guards quickly surrounded the three, their iron boots clanking.
“I am extremely sorry, everyone,” the Earl said, walking forward with his hands behind his back, his gaze cold. “My daughter has committed such a grave mistake; it is my dereliction of duty as her father.”
“Take her away,” the Earl waved his hand, and two guards immediately stepped forward, grabbing Mushroom’s arms. Mushroom was stunned and cried out tremblingly, “No, it wasn’t me! Let me go!”
“Take her away!”
“Wait,” Xia Feng said, pressing a guard’s shoulder, and asked in a deep voice, “Lord Earl, you say Mushroom killed someone, but how did she do it? What was her motive?”
The Earl cast a indifferent glance at Xia Feng. “She refused to acknowledge Yue Hongli as her mother, thus harboring hatred for her brother who forced her. That is her motive for murder.”
“Huh?” Xia Feng was startled. Isn’t this motive for murder a bit too arbitrary?
Yue Hongli must be the name of the current Princess Consort.
The Earl looked at Mushroom. “Hongdou, do you have anything else to say?”
Seeing the coldness in her father’s eyes, Mushroom awoke from her panic. For some reason, her emotions suddenly calmed down, and her gaze darkened slightly.
“Lord Earl, are you saying that as long as I am willing to acknowledge her as my mother, I am not an assassin?” she asked in a low voice.
The Earl calmly gazed at her. “Naturally. That way, you would have no motive for murder.”
The tall and short figures gazed at each other, while the surrounding guests were silent as cicadas.
Xia Feng mused. He could see that both Li Siwen and Li Siter were forcing Mushroom to acknowledge a mother, and they were doing so by any means necessary.
It was outrageous that Li Siwen was already dead, yet Li Siter didn’t care about the real culprit and instead used this incident to continue pressuring Mushroom.
It was as if the sky would fall if Mushroom didn’t acknowledge Yue Hongli as her mother.
“Now, I ask you, who is your mother?” the Earl asked condescendingly.
Mushroom took a deep breath, straightened her back, and tilted her head up. For the first time, she spoke loudly. “It’s definitely not a fox spirit!”
She didn’t actually have any malice towards Yue Hongli. After all, this new Princess Consort had never bullied her. She even suspected that the Princess Consort was intellectually disabled and unable to speak.
Yue Hongli rarely appeared in public. She only made a brief appearance during the Earl’s birthday banquet each year, just to let the nobles know that such a person existed.
She was more like a mascot.
Therefore, Mushroom didn’t intend to target the Princess Consort. She simply didn’t want the Earl to get his way, though she didn’t know his true purpose in insisting she acknowledge a mother.
“Take her away!” Seeing that Mushroom was still unwilling to comply, the Earl’s expression turned cold.
Xia Feng frowned, about to speak, when Uncle Wei suddenly stepped forward.
“Lord Earl, according to regulations, supernatural events should be handed over to the Holy Department for handling.”
Everyone was stunned. The Earl also paused for a moment, his gaze darkening as he was about to speak. Uncle Wei had already approached him during the exchange, raising his snake-headed cane.
The surrounding space instantly rippled, and nearly a hundred black dots appeared. Dense firearms materialized from all directions, their dark muzzles all pointing at the Earl’s head. “Boom!!”
Fiery snakes surged, and with the vibration of space, the Earl was submerged by the fiery light and cannonballs.
Everyone: “!!!”
“Lord Earl!!”
“Uncle Wei, are you crazy!!”
As everyone panicked, the lights flickered, the glass windows shattered with a bang, and more than a dozen black-robed figures wearing cat-faced masks broke through the windows.
With lightning speed, they knocked the guards unconscious and simultaneously bit their thumbs, pressing their blood onto the ground and shouting, “Reconstruct!”
The blood instantly formed a complex formation, and with a hum, the entire venue began to shake violently, as if a seal had been broken. Cracking sounds continuously erupted from underfoot.
As the flames faded, a black-robed figure wearing a pure white mask appeared under the gun muzzles. His robe fluttered, and the Earl behind him said with a dark expression, “Wei, Shu, Tong!”
“Old Wei, you do have a problem after all,” Zhao Jie slowly drew his saber, a grin on his face. Boom—
The floor tiles instantly turned to dust, and everyone lost their footing, falling into the darkness below.
The Earl and the others, however, remained suspended in mid-air.
Uncle Wei expressionlessly spun his snake-headed cane, which mechanically folded into a black hunting rifle. As he retreated, he raised the gun again, spewing fiery snakes.
The roar of gunfire was incessant. Xia Feng and Mu Qingtong exchanged a look, and without further communication, they simultaneously pulled Mushroom’s arms and fell into the abyss.
“Hey, hey, hey! Slow down, you two, slow down~~” Mushroom’s sharp, panicked voice echoed in the air.
Upon reaching the bottom, the three found a dark room constructed of Boundless Stone, with only a pitch-black tunnel.
Although they didn’t know what had happened and why Uncle Wei suddenly wanted to kill the Earl, or what the cat-faced assassins’ purpose was, they were utterly confused. However, Xia Feng couldn’t be bothered to care anymore. The priority was to escape. “Let’s go.”
Not long after, the three rushed out of the tunnel space and found themselves in a gloomy dense forest, with a creepy blood moon hanging in the sky.
“Evil Dragon Forest?”
Xia Feng looked around confusedly. This tunnel could actually bypass the Empire’s Military Department’s security checks and enter the Evil Dragon Forest directly!
“There seems to be a building over there.”
!
Xia Feng followed Mushroom’s gaze. Behind the dense foliage, what appeared to be a hospital stood erected.
The three passed through the concealment of the dense forest, and Xia Feng saw a familiar plaque.
[Pingshan Hospital]
“Over there! Capture her!”
A loud shout rang out. The three turned around to see more than a dozen black-robed figures wearing pure white masks charging at them. Behind the white-masked figures were more than a dozen figures wearing cat-faced masks, with distinct appearances of Persian cats, Siamese cats, Scottish Folds, and Maine Coons.
“Stop them!”
At the same time, a Persian cat person descended from the sky and landed in front of Xia Feng. “Quickly, hand Li Hongdou over to me. I’m here to help you!”
“Do you take me for a fool?” Xia Feng pulled Mushroom and turned to flee.
Clearly, the targets of both groups were Mushroom.
Although the cat-faced people seemed to be on Uncle Wei’s side, they couldn’t be trusted.
With a group chasing them desperately from behind and all escape routes blocked, the three had no choice but to charge into the hospital.
“There are white-masked people in the hospital too,” Mu Qingtong’s gaze turned serious.
The group was surrounded.
“You guys go first!” The cat-faced people engaged the white-masked figures, not forgetting to turn back and remind them.
“As if you guys are our allies,” Xia Feng muttered internally, but still heeded their words and quickly fled, “Optimize!”
He directly took out the Forest Scepter, and ten wooden soldiers transformed into berserk fighters, giving the pursuers a head-on blow.
Each of them possessed combat capabilities comparable to a second-stage physical fitness master. These weaklings stood no chance.
With Xia Feng leading the charge like an army, escorted by the cat-faced people, they charged unimpeded through the hospital.
As the surrounding cat-faced escorts dwindled, they finally broke into a laboratory.
The scene inside the laboratory shocked everyone. In the center of the large circular laboratory, a blue glass coffin stood erect. Intricate gold patterns on the coffin spread like branches, resembling a sacred sealing formation that eternally trapped the woman inside.
The woman was dressed in a resplendent red Divine Phoenix Immortal Robe, with her hands clasped. Her snow-white, slender feet were bare, standing gracefully. From beneath her slightly closed, curved fox-like eyes, wisps of golden light overflowed, adding a touch of sacredness to her exceptionally beautiful and alluring little face.
“Protect the Princess Consort!”
At the command, a group of white-masked figures shielded the glass coffin, their killing intent palpable.
